Erika (erikareading) Fill In the Gaps Project

Time Length: This is a 5 Year reading challenge.

No. of books to read: 100

Details: Pick 100 classics or popular books you have missed over the years. You can get great ideas from established lists and awards, your own tbr list, and the books you own. Commit to reading all 100 of these books by the time 5 years is up. Original challenge - give yourself a 25% margin. Basically, if you finish 75 books on your list you should feel victorious.

Variations (I thought these up, but I'm probably not the first one :)):
- for each year make a goal of how many books you want to knock of the list (if you read 20 books each year you can complete this within the 5-year time frame)
- make your list genre specific (ex. YA, fantasy, sci-fi, etc.)...there's classics and popular books in every genre
- make it more challenging by counting all books in a series as one entry
- if you can't think of 100 right from the start, just leave the last ones blank...then if a year from now you've missed some more really big popular books or find more classics you can add them in

Sashana "- if you can't think of 100 right from the start, just leave the last ones blank...then if a year from now you've missed some more really big popular books or find more classics you can add them in" This is the part you added in right?

message 3: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Niquae, what genre do you usually read?

message 4: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Tuell (booksloveme) | 112 comments i think i could do this as the 100 books that have been sitting on my TBR shelf since i joined goodreads!

Yes, it is. I hope that's okay. It's really more of a tip than a variation I guess.

Niquae, I guess you could just have no classics and just the popular books you missed over the years.

Sashana I don't mind at all, I just realized because you said you'd post a variation.

Erika (erikareading) Mine is a variation as well. I really wanted to make it fun for me so I chose YA. Once I get this one under way I might make another for adult books. I am re-posting this from my personal thread. Now I kind of wish I wasn't so lazy and added in the author names. Maybe I'll start that later. For now, if you want to know just ask :D

This is a really cool list. I can't believe you are going to read all those. I'm kinda jealous. Oh, and The Forest of Hands and Teeth was one of my favourites so far this year. I love The Host so much. I think the sequel might only be a rumour but I'm definitely hoping she will write more!

Who knows if I'll actually be able to finish the list, but they're pretty much all books I wanted to read anyway!

I'm kind of nervous about The Host, because even though it sounds really interesting I didn't really like the Twilight books. This will sort of give me an excuse to read it.

Gayle (gretarahikkainen) | 125 comments I read a lot of historical fiction. I'm betting that I can come up with close to, if not over, 100 books on my "to-be-read" shelves that I could use to fill this challenge. Some of them are classics like The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas and others are by authors like Margaret George, Dorothy Dunnett, Sara Douglas, etc. Plus, I know that there are many books that would fit into the mix that I've been having trouble finding (like Brief Gaudy Hour by Margaret Campbell Barnes). I will attempt to post a list later this week. Maybe this will help me whittle down my TBR shelves!

Sure, Barb. If you want. Welcome to the challenge.

Barb Great, thanks! My only (self-imposed) restriction for the rest of 2012 is that the books have to be from series I've already begun.

NOTE: There are several #1 in series on my list. I'd already read another book from the series (usually for our book group at work), so I feel justified in counting #1 as 'continuing the series' :)
