Tammy I'm surprised that SEP's Nobody Baby But Mine wasn't added to the list until today. Sure, it had its serious moments. But I laughed hysterically when he called her a "Cereal Killer"!

And SEP's Match Me If You Can is all about humor. Airhead meets Alpha Male Sports Agent. The best parts were when the kid (Pipi) kept stealing Heath's cell phones and he commented that she would be a felon before she reached 1st grade.

message 2: by Nisha (new)

Nisha I personally love SEP's Natural Born Charmer the best and I literally laughed out loud during class, so it wind in my book. SEP is my favorite contemp writer. You can't really do better than her.

message 3: by Kelly (new)

Kelly what about Sarah Mason? Playing James, Society Girls and Party Girl. Playing James especially was LAUGH OUT LOUD funny.

message 4: by Derya (new)

Derya I'd like to vote only for the first half of Good in Bed, which is hilarious.

message 5: by Namie (new)

Namie All sophie KInsella books are amazing.they will leave you begging for more!

message 6: by Nada (new)

Nada Nice list! Books by Sophie Kinsella are by far some of the most funniest books I have ever read, and I am glad you have one of my personal favorite "Can You Keep a Secret?" on top of the list!

message 7: by Brittany B. (new)

Brittany B. There are many books here that are great, but not meant to be funny.
For ex.: Beyond a Highland Mist is great, but not a funny read... IMO I don't think IAD series is funny either.

Still it's a great list!

message 8: by BookLovingLady (last edited Mar 30, 2013 06:30AM) (new)

BookLovingLady There are some odd titles on this list, as I can't see how anyone could 'laugh out loud' while reading excellent but serious books like Jane Austen's Emma and Northanger Abbey, or Dickens' Bleak House.

Personally I love the historical romances by Georgette Heyer and have read all of them. And yes, most of those can still make me laugh out loud, especially The Grand Sophy which is still my all time favourite when it comes to Georgette Heyer's historical romances :-)

message 9: by Suzanne (last edited Dec 06, 2012 07:26PM) (new)

Suzanne Booklovinglady wrote: "I can't for the life of me see how anyone could laugh out loud while reading excellent but serious books like Jane Austen's Emma and Northanger Abbey"

Northanger Abbey was a satire. Maybe you haven't read it in a while, but the first page had me laughing out loud. I think Austen's works are really funny. (Though I'm not the one who added them to this list.)

But I agree with you about Dickens' Bleak House. The title kind of says it all. :)

message 10: by willaful (new)

willaful Austen is very funny. Just because her books are classics and you can write scholarly papers about them doesn't mean they're dark.

message 11: by Jeri (new)

Jeri If you want laugh-out-loud romance that's sexy and quirky, read In the Stars by Sabrina Simon! Engaging characters in a story that's just different: a pot-pourri of sex, sports, astrology, the real dish on girl-talk, and humor in abundance.

message 12: by Ardie (new)

Ardie Ford Nisha wrote: "I personally love SEP's Natural Born Charmer the best and I literally laughed out loud during class, so it wind in my book. SEP is my favorite contemp writer. You can't really do better than her. "

She is by far my favorite author but wish she would write faster as can't wait until the new ones come out.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Gipson I love SEP, Rachel Gibson and Kristan Higgins.

message 14: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Erb I hate this website!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so terrible!!!

message 15: by BookLovingLady (last edited Mar 30, 2013 06:39AM) (new)

BookLovingLady @Suzanne & willaful

I fully agree that Jane Austen's books can often make you grin, chuckle, smile or even laugh (although I have my doubts about 'laughing out loud' for her books). But I 'qualified' them as 'serious' books because my idea of 'romance books', it seems, is different from that of some other members. And maybe it's my idea of 'laughing out loud' that's different :-)
When someone mentions 'romance books' to me, I think of Daphne du Maurier, Georgette Heyer (love both authors), Sara Seale, and so on, but not of the more 'classic' works by authors like Jane Austen, Henry Fielding, William Thackeray, etc. Personally I tend to separate these 'classics' from 'romance books' (and I like both genres), which is probably where the mistunderstanding comes from :-)

message 16: by Roberta (new)

Roberta Holt-kipper I vote for Breathing Room. Love this book and have reread numerous times.

message 17: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine Ardie wrote: "Nisha wrote: "I personally love SEP's Natural Born Charmer the best and I literally laughed out loud during class, so it wind in my book. SEP is my favorite contemp writer. You can't really do bett..."

i love SEP's book, and i haven't heard about a new book coming out, do you know something about it?

message 19: by Kym (new)

Kym A lot of these books made me laugh out loud, and many of those are on my read-over-and-over list. But Romeo and Juliet? Really? And many of the books on this list might have provided a chuckle or two, but weren't written to be humorous. There was at least one that I saw with no romance what so ever.

message 20: by Jennyc (new)

Jennyc Is there a way to save this list? I'd like to come back to it to look for new authors, but I'm afraid I'll never find it again.

message 21: by Maggie (last edited Mar 16, 2016 10:38AM) (new)

Maggie I would add The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion as well as The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion. These were books that I couldn't read in bed, because my laughing kept my husband awake ! Rip roaring funny, but stories to touch your heart as well.
Thanks for the list...I now have a whole lot of great titles to add to my Want to Read list.

message 22: by Diane (new)

Diane McSweeney SEP , Jennifer Crusie and Jennifer Weiner are my go-to authors whenever I want a well-written book from a woman's point of view. Nothing tops Blue marching down the highway in a beaver costume (thank you, SEP for a great opening to a delicious novel!) Crusie's Agnes and the Hitman is one of my all-time favorites. THE plot twists, double crosses and outrageous characters had me in stitches. Weiner's well-crafted books always satisfy.

Thanks for the great list. I now have many new titles added to my TBR pile

message 23: by Marie (new)

Marie L How are none of Tawna Fenske's books in the top 100?!?! Her stories and characters are hilarious! Especially "Marine for Hire"!!!

Btw, Does anyone know how to check whether a book's on this list - without having to scroll through all of it, that is? ;)

message 24: by Pam (new)

Pam I did not see "Play" by Kylie Scott. Among other things, the funniest sex scene ever. Mal Erickson rocks!

message 25: by Zoé (new)

Zoé Fernandez Thank you VERY MUCH for this list, this is exactly what I was looking for. Just ordered "Can you keep a secret?" and "Wallbanger". Just out of curiosity: do you think I can read the Chicago Stars series in any order?

message 26: by Pam (new)

Pam Zoé wrote: "Thank you VERY MUCH for this list, this is exactly what I was looking for. Just ordered "Can you keep a secret?" and "Wallbanger". Just out of curiosity: do you think I can read the Chicago Stars s..."
Yes. My first SEP book was Heaven, Texas- 2nd(?) in the series. No problem following people or events.

BookLovingLady Zoé wrote: "Thank you VERY MUCH for this list, this is exactly what I was looking for. Just ordered "Can you keep a secret?" and "Wallbanger". ..."

I just love the Neighbor from Hell and the Six Pack Ranch series :-) I've also read Neanderthal Seeks Human which is lovely and very funny, and am currently reading The Earl's London Bride, which is also very funny; I had such a laugh yesterday when Amy and Colin get on the horse together :-)

And even though I've read them several times, I can still chuckle when I read one of Georgette Heyer's historical novels ;-)

message 28: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Mullis Love Jennifer Crusie. Welcome to Temptation is my favorite romantic comedy, ever. Have read all of her books. Also, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and Rachel Gibson. Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series is like candy, they're so fun to read. Wondered why there was no Susan Anderson.

message 29: by Johnny (new)

Johnny Maggie wrote: "I would add The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion as well as The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion. These were books that I couldn't read in bed, because my laughing kept my husband awake ! Rip roaring ..."

I loved the "Rosie Project".
