I remember being in the midst of the very last round of revisions for IN HER SHOES, and picking up some super-deluxe literary title and being depressed to the point of immobility. "I suck! I'll never be this good! Why even try!" Which doesn't mean that I don't want to be inspired. I want to push myself, I want my writing to get sharper with each book....but it's a fine line between something that's going to raise the bar and something that's going to make you want to drop the bar on your foot so you can go to the Urgent Care center instead of back to work.

Great American Novelist Jonathan Franzen – the best writer of our time, y’all -- did a Q and A with a Butler University MFA candidate – perhaps you’ve seen it? – where he dismisses my quest for respect and reviews for genre women’s fiction by saying, that I “rub him the wrong way,” that I’m “freeloading on the legitimate problem of gender bias,” and I’m an “unfortunate” person to be a spokesper... “Cram your head with characters and stories. Abuse your library privileges. Never stop looking at the world, and never stop reading to find out what sense other people have made of it. If people give you a hard time and tell you to get your nose out of a book, tell them you're working. Tell them it's research. Tell them to pipe down and leave you alone.”
Jennifer Weiner

“I've learned a lot this year.. I learned that things don't always turn our the way you planned, or the way you think they should. And I've learned that there are things that go wrong that don't always get fixed or get put back together the way they were before. I've learned that some broken things stay broken, and I've learned that you can get through bad times and keep looking for better ones, as long as you have people who love you.”
Jennifer Weiner, Good in Bed

“Divorce isn't such a tragedy. A tragedy's staying in an unhappy marriage, teaching your children the wrong things about love. Nobody ever died of divorce.”
