To be fair, you may not be a fan of the book yourself, but a 4.49 rating from 966,637 ratings is brilliant. It seems the overwhelming majority disagree with you!

At least we wont be seeing Twilight listed here, as it has an average of 3.61.

Thank you for deleting the non-qualifying books. I'm not quite sure about poetry, but as they are collections perhaps its best that they are removed. There are also still quite a few books that do not have 4.2 or above which it would be great if someone could remove them.

It can stand alone. Many readers will skip over volume 1 in the series.

I must be reading the wrong kind of books, if I should go by this list.... I think I'd do better to stick to lists like 'underrated books' and so on, because there are plenty of books with a valuation of 4.2 or more on my shelves, but only a few of them have more than 1,000 ratings on GR.

Hi Wanda, lol. I think "Hunger Games" is listed as #1 on the "Best Books Ever" list. "Okay", I thought, "I will have to read it to have an informed opinion." I thought it was okay and gave it two stars. Then I read "Catching Fire" and really enjoyed it and I gave it 4 stars! And I'll definitely read "Mockingjay"! Suzanne Collins is actually a good writer! As a side note, I rated Tolstoy's "War and Peace" with 2 stars, it bored me to tears, in general.

I don't know about the others, but the Discworld books can stand alone. They take place in the same universe but are generally independent stories that do not require having read the other Discworld books.

I do agree that some books that are listed as being sequels are not really sequels.

However, it would be nice if a librarian would go through and clean up this list and get rid of the books that are sequels because those are specifically prohibited at the top of this list.
