Jane Austen Yearly Challenge
How did you like Mr. Darcy's Diary, Tea? I've got it on my Kindle for ages but I haven't read it yet. And what about the other "diaries"? Did you read any of those? Emma is my favourite JA novel so I wonder about Mr. Knightley's diary. Is it any good?Do you have a favourite Jane Austen hero? I really like Colonel Brandon and Mr. Knightley. As for the "villains" I prefer Willoughby to Mr. Wickham.

Those two are my favorite Austen heroes.
I've tried few of those retellings/sequels and was usually disappointed. So I'll take any suggestion on what to try.
Villains? Hm, it's quite close call between two W's. If I have to pick, it would probably be Wickham, but only because I've read that book more times. :)
Zuzana, are you sure we can't watch North & South? But it's Mr. Thornton! :P

Yeah, that's the downside of the sequels and retellings. Everybody has their own version/perception of the heroes and heroines and sometimes if the author's idea of the characters & relationship is too different the book can get annoying.
I don't mind so much when it comes to movie adaptations but I'm quite picky when it comes to books.
I went through the lists and picked a few books that I might try for this challenge:
Death Comes to Pemberley because of the author
I'm going to try the Austen Project books: Sense & Sensibility, Emma, Northanger Abbey because of the authors
The Three Colonels: Jane Austen's Fighting Men because I'm interested in Marianne and Colonel Brandon's story
Georgiana Darcy's Diary: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice Continued it was a Kindle freebie :p

But if you liked 2005 P&P with Matthew Macfayden you might like to watch 2008 BBC adaptation of Little Dorrit. I checked on Wiki and it's set in 1830s.
I've read preview of one of those Austen Projects books (I think it was S&S) and ran away screaming. I know that authors are well known and they tried to make those books interesting to everyone, but no. I just couldn't.Let me know if you liked them so I'll try again.
I got bunch of retellings/sequels for free few years ago when they were celebrating JA birthday. Read one or two and rest are still sitting on disk waiting for me to find courage and read them. :P

Bridget Jones's Diary - the movie is better IMO
The Jane Austen Book Club - the movie is better IMO
Mr. Darcy's Refuge: A Pride & Prejudice Variation - too much sex
and I can't recommend any of them. Maybe The Jane Austen Book Club for the fun of discovering the references to different JA books. But it's not that great of a story by itself.
Re North & South: BBC released the 1975 TV Mini-Series starring Patrick Stewart as John Thornton on DVD. Yeah, Captain Jean Luc Picard as a romantic hero. :D
I love Sir Patrick but really there's no competition. :)

they are airing a new series on BBC One that could match the setting category. it's called Poldark and it's with Aiden Turner <3 The 3rd episode is tonight

Just finished 1996 Emma starring Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong. It's different from other Emma adaptations. It really highlights flaws in Emma's and Mr. Knightly's characters (instead of obscuring them). There is also emphasis on social differences, lots of short scenes with servants (Box Hill) and farmers (the Martins). I really enjoyed it right up to the end. The ending scene of the harvest celebration and Mr Knightly's speech were just weird. If you're familiar with this adaptation you know what I mean.A bit of trivia - Jane Austen connections: The screenplay was written by Andrew Davies who is responsible for Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV Mini-Series), Sense & Sensibility (2008 TV Mini-Series), both Bridget Jones movies and 2007 Northanger Abbey movie.
Jane Fairfax is played by Olivia Williams, who you might know played Jane Austen in Miss Austen Regrets.
Finished Aisha. It's a modern day slightly Bollywoodized adaptation of Emma. Set in the high society of Delhi, it follows Aisha in her misguided matchmaking attempts. It didn't work for me. JA's Emma is a complex character - she can be vain, narcissistic and controlling yet she has charm, is caring (her relationship with her father is really sweet) and she always means well. You love her despite her flaws. Aisha, on the other hand, seemed plain dumb, shallow, and pretentious, a privileged spoilt brat in every way. Why would Arjun (Mr Knightly) want to end up with such a girl? I don't understand the attraction. “Men of sense, whatever you may choose to say, do not want silly wives.”

I've read Longbourn last year and it's pretty interesting book.
Also Mr. Darcy's Diary got me laughing so hard. I think I'm gonna reread few of those diaries.
