New York Times, Washington Post & USA Today bestseller Sarah MacLean is the author of historical romance novels that have been translated into more than twenty languages, and winner of back-to-back RITA Awards for best historical romance from the Romance Writers of America.

Sarah is a leading advocate for the romance genre, speaking widely on its place at the nexus of gender and cultural studies. She is the author of a monthly column celebrating the best of the genre for the Washington Post. Her work in support of romance and the women who read it earned her a place on Jezebel.com's Sheroes list of 2014 and led Entertainment Weekly to call her "gracefully furious." Sarah lives in New York City with her husband and daughter.

Hi Mariah,
Thanks so much for reading and for your question!
I do research all the time -- watching movies & television, reading books, traveling, reading gossip columns, surfing the web. The truth is, I can come up with a story from pretty much anything, and it's a lot less difficult setting it down in the 1800s than you would think (technology aside).
But -- I couldn't write without the New York Public Library and an annual visit to the British Library. I could spend months in those collections reading newspapers and exploring letters and other things from the time periods in which I write. The library is the best place to begin any research on a time period -- nothing inspires like primary sources!

You guys! It's here! It's finally finally here! The Rogue Not Taken is out today and I am so excited to introduce Sophie and King to you!

I've said before that the book is my homage to many things: Romancing the Stone (or any enemies-to-lovers story); roadtrip romances; men who don't know what's hit them; women who want more than what they *should* want; gossip magazines; the Knowles sisters, t...
