Once I’ve done that the story begins to reveal itself. It’s a scary, fragile feeling, but if I trust my muse (or whatever force guides the novel) I find it almost tells itself. If I skip a day writing, I’m nagged by guilt. The more regularly I work on a piece the more it flows. When I was younger I thought inspiration was like the apple beaning Sir Issac Newton and while that’s occasionally true, it’s more often, incredibly hard work. It wasn’t always that way though. In my 20’s and 30’s I was consumed by a fever pitch of partying, travelling and attaining experience. Somewhere in my mid-30’s I crashed. Several traumatic things happened in my life at once that made realize there wouldn’t always be time to tell the stories I wanted. I began writing obsessively. A couple of years after that I started working on my current series, “Nightfall Gardens,” for my daughter and godson. There’s nothing surer to light a fire under you than staring at your own mortality. (less)

October is the season of Halloween, sugary treats, things that go bump in the night, and — the release of “Childhood Rites” my new creeptacular tale that will raise the hackles on your flesh and have you double checking the locks on your doors.

Proud to announce that it’s on sale for a mere 99 cents. The seed of this tale rattled around in my skull for a while. What if a childhood friend you had... Read more of this blog post »
