Lexi Reading this year with my mother since we live on different continents. We started off great, had to take a break for life and are back at it. Also, getting us both on the same page, so to speak, on a book can be difficult. Ratings are all mine.

Rebecca Fisch | 13 comments Since I'm teaching for the first time, it didn't occur to me until a month after I began that I had an idea to incorporate the Reading Challenge for my students. However, since a few seniors that are graduating this year, I thought of how would it work. Right now, I have 17 students signed up for the reading challenge at my school. The idea is that in order for them to show proof, I came with questions that adhere to the specific book tasks, and the students would need to complete 30: 25 main, and 5 of the advanced. However, I did add on 2 more advanced books they would need to complete so they'll meet the CCSS: one Shakespeare and one play other than Shakespeare. For every 5 books read, they can earn a $25 gift card, especially those who are going graduating this year who'll need the extra financial lift to buy their books. For every book read, they can earn a type of incentive, including 1 Friday paint day with me, since I also taught art. Once all 30 are complete with their portfolio, the student will earn an award of excellence, or reading certificate. My hope is that I can come up with a reading challenge specifically for my school that would eventually become a tuition scholarship. Any ideas from other readers or those who have expertise in creating incentives for high school students and scholarships would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
