I write fantasy, science fiction, horror, thrillers, crime fiction, and contemporary literary fiction with a psychological twist.

I’ve held jobs with the US Postal Service, international non-profit groups, a short stint with the Forest Service in Sitka, Alaska, and time with the globe-spanning Semester at Sea program. Trips to Iceland, Patagonia, and Antarctica added to the creative pot, as well, and I started to put all those experiences to good use about eight years ago--thinking, dreaming, and writing.

Hi Jackie - Thanks so much for writing and thanks also for trying out the marty books...I truly appreciate it.

While I have a Marty #7 outlined and started, my publisher has not given the green light for it. I certainly hope to continue the series as time and opportunity allow. If nothing else, I may share the first chapter of the new book with readers just to keep Marty "alive." Thanks so much for reading and supporting my writing...can't tell you how much it means to me! ~Matt(less)

I have a great time writing the Marty books and it's always a blast hearing what readers like or connect with, or that they simply liked the books enough to reach out and let me know. Thanks very much; you made my day.

“a ragged jean jacket to guard against the bite of early December.”
Matthew Iden, A Reason to Live

“Historically, the people who weather crises the best are those who adjust their expectations to fit the reality of the situation.”
Matthew Iden, The Winter Over

“Like, Well, there you go. Or, It is what it is. And, Well, what can you do? I suppose these one-offs are less idiotic than they seem on the surface. They're all a way of saying the same thing, that shit happens and you have to deal with it. You can try to ignore it, wait for it to go away. Maybe that works, but sometimes the knot won't untie itself and your attention is required. A thing you never expected, could not have predicted, suddenly becomes the foremost event in your life and no amount of wishing it away will work. In some cases, the event is small and the ramifications manageable. In my case, it affected everything. Forever.”

“More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.”
Woody Allen

“You can't believe that AIDS is a curse from God against Gays without accepting that Lyme Disease is a curse from the same God against Deer Hunters...”
T. Rafael Cimino, Table 21

“Democracy in America was never the same as Liberty in Europe. In Europe Liberty was a great life-throb. But in America Democracy was always something anti-life. The greatest democrats, like Abraham Lincoln, had always a sacrificial, self-murdering note in their voices. American Democracy was a form of self-murder, always. Or of murdering somebody else... The love, the democracy, the floundering into lust, is a sort of by-play. The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer. It has never yet melted.”
D.H. Lawrence, Studies in Classic American Literature

Michele, thank you so much. You've been such a great supporter of my work since we met here on GR. I can't thank you enough!

And I'm so glad you enjoyed Blueblood...the story came really easily to me (maybe too easy. The third book, Signs, has been more of a struggle). Here's hoping the others in the series keep flowing!

Happy holidays and I'll tak to you soon!

Hi Melissa - Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm somewhat new to Goodreads (joined in 2007, but almost totally inactive until a few months ago) and have met a ton of great people and readers here. It's been wonderful encouragement to this indie writer. :)

I'll see you around GR!

p.s. I'll be holding more Giveaways and contests soon, as I hope to release Blueblood , the sequel to A Reason to Live , in early-mid August. I'll let all my GR friends know first!

I enjoyed Stephen King's On Writing, it was a book I read quite some time ago, that was leant to me by my cousin. I really enjoyed reading about the process he goes through when writing, and all that he went through in order to get noticed in the world of writers. Definitely one I should read again!
