Vold Kira Really I don't understand how they can't understand 1984... So beautifull!!

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Some of us just didn't enjoy it.

message 3: by Vold Kira (new)

Vold Kira I know, but... Well. It's so real, so futurist! So sad... And so real

message 4: by Taylor (new)

Taylor How come people didn't like Divergent! Its one of those books where even once you're done reading it you still think about it constantly.

Gigi Vold wrote: "Really I don't understand how they can't understand 1984... So beautifull!!"

True that. 1984 is life changing, same with the Hunger Games. The first ten books are right though.

message 6: by Oscar (new)

Oscar the city books were a great read, and eragon is on here that inheritance series is amazing.

I'm tottally agree with you. Inheritance is awesome. Sorry for my bad english

message 8: by Katie (new)

Katie I absolutely love the Caster Chronicles.

message 9: by May (new)

May How people can not love The Hunger Games is beyond me.

message 10: by Magic (new)

Martina May wrote: "How people can not love The Hunger Games is beyond me."

totally agree

message 12: by Nazrana (new)

Nazrana A Song of Ice and Fire is one of the best epic fantasy fiction series out there after LOTR. Granted, a tad too long but still!

message 13: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Liz wrote: "May wrote: "How people can not love The Hunger Games is beyond me."

Some people don't. I didn't find them to be that great, personally I couldn't connect with the main character, Katniss Everdeen ..."

I second that.

message 14: by Athira (new)

Athira The most awesome part is, I found really awesome, strangely good books from the above list of books. I think I should read some of them. Thanks for the list.

message 15: by Jenna (new)

Jenna The house of night books really suck the more of them u read the worse they get

message 16: by Magic (new)

Magic Jenna wrote: "The house of night books really suck the more of them u read the worse they get"

If they suck so badly why did you read the other ones?

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Hope springs eternal in the hearts of readers?

Emily // Mixed Margins The Time Traveler's Wife? Such an excellent book.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads We all have our own opinions. (I thought it was OK, but nothing to write home about, personally.)

message 20: by Alix (last edited Jul 04, 2013 10:07AM) (new)

Alix It's so telling when almost every book in a series is high up here, like the House of Night series. I enjoyed the first 4 or 5 then got so bored (and I grew up a bit) that I couldn't be bothered to carry on with what seemed like a never ending series.

message 21: by Christasya (new)

Christasya Sentana i agree tottaly with the twilight saga and I am number 4, but the cather in the rye? that book was awesomee

Dima  What the hell is wrong with you people?!
this list should be deleted -.-
but you can keep twilight and fifty shade :D

message 23: by Erin (new)

Erin I loved The Lovely Bones! But yes, I do agree with some of the others on this list. I don't see the fuss. I'm also passionate about RHPS and I'm sure others wouldn't get it. :p

Az (أسماء) Vold wrote: "Really I don't understand how they can't understand 1984... So beautifull!!"

I agree!!! I was really surprised when I saw it on the list!!

message 25: by Amber (new)

Amber I really didn't get all the fuss about the mortal instrument series. I've only read the first 2 and they were ok, I guess, but II thought the city of bones movie was completely hopeless (sorry, don't hate me)

message 26: by C (last edited Oct 26, 2013 06:22PM) (new)

Meh, The Hunger Games was definitely not life changing. It was mediocre, I guess.

Same!

message 31: by Ron (new)

Ron A lot of this list just seems to be someones own personal circlejerk about how cool all their obscure taste are. Sure there's some really overrated one's on there, but I can definitely see WHY people would like them.

message 32: by Umarie (new)

Umarie i read a couple of these books and the fuss can be understood. except fifty shades of greyt T_T

message 33: by Nati (new)

Nati Most of these books are goddamn awful. Also if a book you liked is in this list,it's because people voted on it. You people need to learn to respect other reader's opinions.

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Books that everybody seems to love... but you can't figure out why

Thanks Tacuazin :-) I respect other people's opinions, even though I do sometimes wonder... :-0

message 35: by Josephina (new)

Josephina Whoa whoa whoaaaa. How can you NOT like Harry Potter (<3), The Fault in Our Stars (amazinggggg), THE HUNGER GAMES (fangirls like cray cray), or The Mortal Instruments??? I don't get WHY....

OMG I totally agree! And you can keep Matched too. ;D

message 37: by Ariana (new)

Ariana Beam You should rename this list to, "Popular Books." Seems to me you hate every successful book ever.

message 38: by GREG (new)

GREG J. ummm we were supposed to vote for books that we DIDN'T like?! ooops!

message 39: by Lori (new)

Lori This is basically just a list of the most popular books from the last 150 years.

message 40: by Kym (new)

Kym Taylor wrote: "How come people didn't like Divergent! Its one of those books where even once you're done reading it you still think about it constantly."

Cause most people only read the books after the movie. Which changes their view on the book when it should've been the other way around.

message 41: by Judith (new)

Judith Rich Surely the whole point of this list is that you're voting on books that are really popular but you personally don't get? So all the books are going to be really popular - which means some of your favourites are bound to be there (I LOVE Pride & Prejudice). As well as the ones you think are totally overrated. Because everyone is different.

I totally don't get Tolkien or Terry Pratchett - couldn't even finish "The Colour of Magic". My brother reads almost nothing else. That's the point - isn't it?

message 42: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Aug 09, 2017 11:24AM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Judith wrote: "That's the point - isn't it? ..."

Absolutely. For me it was The Catcher in the Rye and Fifty Shades of Grey (and it seems I'm not the only one, as currently these books are in the top three). People were (are) absolutely raving about both books, and I didn't like either. It's just like my earlier comment :-)

message 43: by Histrio (new)

Histrio Kym wrote: "Taylor wrote: "How come people didn't like Divergent! Its one of those books where even once you're done reading it you still think about it constantly."

I read the books first and haven't bothered with the movie. I liked the world so I kept reading hoping for more world-building; instead I got romance, world-breaking, and more romance. Not a fan.

message 44: by Histrio (new)

Histrio Judith wrote: "I totally don't get Tolkien or Terry Pratchett - couldn't even finish "The Colour of Magic". My brother reads almost nothing else. That's the point - isn't it? ."

I don't get Tolkien either! And if you want to try Terry Pratchett again I recommend starting with one of his later ones like "Going Postal" or "The Truth". I don't think I would have been able to finish "The Colour of Magic" either if I hadn't already liked the world.

message 45: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha Whoever wrote this probably doesn't like reading that much, or hasn't analysed/thought about them. These books, even if they aren't exciting or fun to read, have important messages and themes. It's why people love them.

message 46: by BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) (last edited Apr 13, 2018 06:55AM) (new)

BookLovingLady (deceased Jan. 25, 2023...) Ayesha wrote: "... have important messages and themes."

I'm sorry, but I've voted for Fifty Shades of Grey (#2) and I can't for the life of me see the important message and theme... But I get your meaning, as there are some truly great books on this list.

message 47: by Dylan (new)

Dylan What the HELL is Lord Of The Rings doing on this list?

People are dumber than I thought.

message 48: by Kaelynn (new)

Kaelynn Oh my gush, everyone who enjoys LOTR or How To Train Your Dragon MUSTT read Eragon! The story, as far as I know, is soo original... Like some combo between sci-fi and realistic fiction (yea I know they are complete opposites)

message 49: by Joe (new)

Joe While I sometimes wonder why a certain book was a best seller, or a "must read", I think "Pillars of the Earth" was one of the best books I've ever read.

message 50: by Lori (new)

Lori Some of his early stuff like Phantoms and Winter Moon is pretty good. But he's definitely become very, very formulaic and preachy.
