message 10: by Reeb (new)

Reeb 275?! Good luck!! I barely was able to get 210 last year! I dropped my goal for this year to 200 because it was a struggle and I have to win the challenge.

message 11: by karen (new)

karen i know all about that urge. must... win... challenge!

message 12: by karen (new)

karen FREE. TOR. SHORTS.

message 13: by karen (new)

message 14: by karen (new)

karen but you can read them on the computer, just like you're reading THIS COMMENT!

message 15: by Dennis (new)

Dennis I don't even understand how this is possible.

message 16: by Hester (new)

Hester You make me feel much shame, being a slow reader is embarrassing.

message 17: by Laima (new)

Laima If anyone can reach that goal you can, Karen! Happy New Reading Year!!

Robert Davis Children's picture books count, right?

Eric Mesa MOAR Monster Love!

message 20: by DeeDee (new)

DeeDee 3kk good luck ^^

message 21: by Rana (new)

Rana Ansari 275? I can barely do 100/year. Aaaah....you read on the Metro don't you?

message 22: by Rana (new)

Rana Ansari *including children's books that is...

message 23: by karen (new)

karen children's books, free tor shorts, monsterotica - i'm no hero here. short and sweet is fine by me!

message 24: by Ronyell (new)

Ronyell I read children's books too to get through my challenges quicker!

Eric Mesa Ronyell wrote: "I read children's books too to get through my challenges quicker!"

And I read comics, which usually take 2 hours max for a trade. I think the goal's just a personal thing - a motivator to read vs the other hobbies and all that matters is that you feel it makes sense. I realize I'm preaching to the choir, but if anyone thought it had to be NOVELS, that's my rationale.

message 26: by karen (new)

karen i like the palate-cleansing quality of a tor short after a novel, or first thing in the morning, to start me on my day...

Ronyell Eric wrote: "Ronyell wrote: "I read children's books too to get through my challenges quicker!"

Ooh! I also read comics to pass the time too. As long as I read some good books for the year, I'm cool.

message 28: by Robert (new)

Robert Davis The proper term is Graphic Novel !

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* karen wrote: "i know all about that urge. must... win... challenge!"

This mantra follows me around every day of the year.

Good luck on your challenge. I'm secretly hoping to breach that 200 mark myself, although I set it for 150 so I don't go into panic mode.

message 30: by karen (new)

karen it's definitely better to start the year cautiously. i mean, what if someone publishes a 1,000 page book about red pandas and i lose a week to it? pacing is everything.

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate I admire you. Maybe someday I will be able to read as many books as you. Not this year, though. Too many library school textbooks.

message 32: by karen (new)

karen I LOVE LIBRARY SCHOOL TEXTBOOKS!

except for the cataloging one. and that computer one. but the others - swoon!!!

message 33: by Kate (new)

Kate Yeah, I'm loving mine so far, EXCEPT FOR THE MANAGEMENT ONE. Management is the worst.

They are very dense though. I could read like 20 tor shorts in the time it takes to read one. I think I'll go read some tor shorts instead of doing my homework.

message 34: by karen (new)

karen i think reading one tor short after every chapter is only going to enhance your learning.

i don't think i ever studied management of libraries. if i did, i was reading tor shorts instead...

message 35: by Kate (new)

Kate I would much rather be reading tor shorts than this management book... but I like your idea of reading one after each chapter. It will be a reward for getting through the boring parts of library school.

message 36: by karen (new)

karen once you get the boring fundamental stuff outta the way, it's a lot more fun.

message 37: by Annie (new)

Annie Osborne Thats a lot of books to read! 275? How do you do it? do you read a book every day(on average) or do you read a bunch of books on one day? When do you read?
That was a lot of questions. Lol

message 38: by karen (new)

karen well, i promised myself i would read one free tor short per week, so those don't take long, and there's plenty of short picture books and graphic novels scattered in there. there are people way more impressive than me *koff melki koff* i just read whenever i can. the subway's good for that. it frequently stalls, so i get a lot of reading done!

message 39: by Annie (new)

Annie Osborne Wow, maybe I'll try that, Thanks!

message 40: by karen (new)

karen don't stall my subway!

TL *Humaning the Best She Can* *high five*

message 42: by Arthur (new)

Arthur Graham grrrl u cray cray

message 43: by Anmiryam (new)

Anmiryam 300 and I'm still struggling to get to my piddling 130...I'm impressed that you read so much and have the energy to write about it too.

StellarLuna ☾✩ Daaamn girl!! That's almost 16 books a month!! *bows down*

message 45: by Miranda (new)

Miranda The management class in Library School was the worst!

message 46: by Anna (new)
