Some people don't know the definition of mystery or thriller! Grrr!

Harley wrote: "Joe wrote: "No Ellery Queen? I'd vote for Calamity Town (1942)."3 Queens on the list: The Roman Hat Mystery, The Finishing Stroke, and A Study in Terror"
OK, I stand corrected. I wouldn't list A Study in Terror, however. It was a movie tie-in; the Queens did not write the center part (it was ghosted, although they may have changed it from the movie plot to tie to the frame), and the middle part does not imitate the British style for the Sherlock Holmes material. A poor book. Calamity Town is far better.

I just went down the list of the top 100--that's all I've seen. Ellery Queen is not in those, and that was what I was responding to, originally. I gather there are others, with fewer votes; hence Harley's reply.
Pretty good list but I would drop Dan Brown (too ridiculously awful), and Lee Child (too gratuitously violent), and add an Arthur Upfield Australia story, a James Melville Japan story, a Stuart Kaminsky Russian story, and a Henning Mankell Sweden story.
Where are the Adam Dalgleish series by P.D. James? They are probably among the most intelligent, well written books on the market.
Ilona wrote: "Where are the Adam Dalgleish series by P.D. James? Go to the top of the list and click on the right-hand tab to add a book. When it gives you a choice of what to look under, you can select "read", for all the books you have read that are in your Goodreads list, or if you have created a more specific shelf, such as "mysteries" or some such, you can ask to see that shelf Each of your books will turn up with the offer to add the book; just click on that, up to 100 titles.
Volunteer librarians like me cannot go in and add your titles unless we have also read them and wish to vote for them. For me, paring it down to 100 favorites will be a challenge!
I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, thus the Steve King books that look like horror to me are someone else's thrillers...but GR staff, Gone With the Wind? (mid-200's).
Both "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and two of the novels. That is a bit redundant.
J wrote: "Both "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" and "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes" and two of the novels. That is a bit redundant."I agree. Anthologies like "The Complete Sherlock Holmes" should not be on the list. The novels and short story collections should each be listed separately.
I'll try to go down the list from now on until the end of the year. Seems like a good balance of classics and lighter reads!
its a great pleasure being a member of this community of readers. Please anyone with ebooks of .pdf and .txt format should email me via simonok2@mail.com. Thanks.
Raven wrote: "Iris Johansen books are great"Actually I was really into her thrillers when the main protagonist was Eve; I didn't like the book she wrote with her son and I'm not buying any harcovers books from her anymore...
I didn't get the impression one is meant to add titles to this list, but as there are so many books on it now, it is nearly impossible to get back to the original one hundred....Also, there are titles on this list which, in my opinion at least, have nothing to do whatsoever with being 'Mysteries and Thrillers'. And the checking for duplicates function (for librarians) is no longer working, undoubtedly due to the huge number of books on this list (and I've seen lots of duplicates). It's impossible to weed out this list though, unless it is brought back to the bare beginnings, but that's nearly impossible, I guess.

I'm just going through this list and thinking the same thing. I've voted on ones I've read, but some listed as mystery/thriller?? Lol, makes no sense.
Booklovinglady wrote: "Please. please. please do not add books to this list anymore, as I'm trying to clean it up and bring it back to the original 100 titles."I'm sorry. I'm going through extreme/critical life circumstances dealing with life/death/family/kids/loss.....literally and came to the lists to try to have something positive to keep my mind off of those things. I wasn't anle to concentrate on reading. I'll delete what I added. Won't ever do it again :'(
Booklovinglady wrote: "Please. please. please do not add books to this list anymore, as I'm trying to clean it up and bring it back to the original 100 titles."Just deleted all my votes and any I might have added. Don't remember which ones if I did. I'm not joking about my last post so I wasn't really fully aware or looking at the top message like I usually do. Just needed a break.......

I don't know how to not worry. After 19 years of abuse and it being in the midst of the worst and hopefully end of it, I don't know how to not worry, I don't know how to feel anything other than in the way and annoying. That's what I've been taught through awful words and physical assaults/actions for more than half my life, so I'm just crying it out and will move on. My Heart hurts too deeply. Again, I 'am very' sorry. Have a wonderful day and sincerely, best to you on getting the list back to how you'd like it to be.
Melissa wrote: "I don't know how to not worry...."What I meant was, don't worry about adding books. Lots of others have done so as well.
I found the oddest titles on this list, like Anne Frank's diary, a biography by Abraham Lincoln. a book by Betty White about her life on television, and so on and so forth.... Lots and lots of titles on this list had nothing whatsoever to do with being 'Mysteries and Thrillers'. And I noticed a few that were author spam as well.
My sincere apologies. Not sure how a previous comment is to be deleted - may I request the admin to kindly do it if possible on my behalf. Else - request that it may be kindly ignored as my inadvertence. Thanks and best regards

I just cleaned up a whole mess on the front page for genre reasons, and I listed everything here, but then the system wouldn't save the comment. First time this has happened to me. Now the list is gone, but I can tell you there were multiple Stephen King titles (none of them from the Finders trilogy), a couple of Michael Crichton, a couple of classics, and of course Hunger Games, which some idiot places on every single list regardless of genre. (*Sigh*) There is more to do, but I'm out of time. At least the first page is fairly clean now. I'll come back later.
I am back with my bucket and mop. Let's clean this thing up. Page 2, genre issues:The Stand https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

The first two pages should be good now, but if you see others that are plainly out of genre, list them here, along with the page where you found them. I'll be back.

Thanks Donna! But I think one of the laws of physics is that eventually, every single goodreads list MUST contain every single book ever published. Odd, huh?

I love Vonnegut too, folks, but he was not a mystery writer, ever. Did someone go looking for the sci fi list and wander over here instead? Just gotta wonder, cause:

Greg, I made it to page 4 and haven't seen these two titles, definitely not on page 2; did someone else get to them first, or are they further up in the list? If you spot them again, find the book numbers next to them on the list, and I will go back and find them.
Nonetheless, I am glad you called in the cavalry (in the form of an old lady English teacher,) because this list is loaded with titles that shouldn't be here. The first two pages look pretty good; the third was sketchy; and the fourth, probably 30 or 40% of them have to go. I started tonight and will return later to finish the job.
And I'm back again. Removed for genre, The Fall:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
Memoirs of a Geisha:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...
Kafka on the Shore:

Sunan An Nasa'i:

Then there's that beloved mystery author, Jack Kerouac:
On the Road (sarcasm is a bonus that comes with my volunteer work.) :

Now I am relatively sure the first four pages are clean (but I wouldn't lay money on it, either.) If you see a book that is out of genre, please leave a note here including where it is within the list. I'm happy to volunteer my labor here, but it doesn't extend to combing through 15 pages of titles in search of a single offender.
It's becoming increasingly meaningless to browse these lists for book ideas when no one is cleaning up the misidentified books. There are so many entries that don't, even nearly, fit the lists' descriptions. I don't think it's entirely due to ignorance. I suspect people are promoting books - either their favorites or those they're selling.
OK, I've eliminated a pile of books about religion, poetry, non-fiction, Science Fiction and a few other odds and ends. The list is now a full page shorter. Leave a message here if I missed anything.
A lesson for all search sites:Books ,'ON ' ,and books ,'IN' ,English are not the same thing.
Books ,ON', English is learning English.
Books !'IN ' , English are books written in the English language.
Be advised I failed English in the sixth class.

Bernard, I can see you are trying to correct an error, but this isn't the place for it, and promoting your own book in this space is considered spam.
