The Most Read Books of the 2022 Reading Challenge (So Far)

Now that we’re halfway through the year, it’s time to check in on the 2022 Goodreads Reading Challenge, our rigorous annual initiative for book lovers worldwide. The gist: Goodreads members set a goal for the year as to how many books they want to read, and then we help them keep track of their progress.
The Reading Challenge is an interesting indicator each year of which books tend to wind up on bedside tables and in e-reader queues. The titles below are sorted by genre and sequenced in order of overall popularity. As is often the case, hot authors often spark their own mini trends—Taylor Jenkins Reid has three books in the general fiction top ten, and Sally Rooney has two (with a third at #15). You’ll find similar streaks in Mystery, Romance, and YA.
It's interesting to track the mix in terms of chronology, too. This year’s Reading Challenge has a healthy mix of new books, relatively new books, series debuts, and stone-cold classics. The nonfiction category is a fascinating blend of psychology, sociology and philosophy—plus rock stars and other celebrity memoirs. All right, all right, all right.
There’s still plenty of time in the year to set a reading goal or edit your current Challenge! Scroll over the covers below for further inspiration, and add the books that pique your interest to your Want to Read shelf!

Lincoln Highway was a great read. Have you read A Gentleman in Moscow? That book was fantastic.

Btw, my friends going to read the song of Achilles.

Disappearing Earth
Behold the Dreamers
The Light Between the Ocean
I’m currently reading Pachinko and I will definitely add it to the list.

5 star reads this year The Lincoln Highway - Crawdads - The Paris Apartment - The Maid.

Also just finished Sebastian Barry’s ‘A long long way’ another good read.

I agree -- the Midnight Library is an excellent book that is hard to put down.

I loved The Lincoln Highway, too!

I agree with your favorite, Donna. A Little Life is one of my favorites, too. It stuck with me well after I finished reading it.

I, too, really enjoyed A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki. My Year of Meats by the same author was really good, as well.

Addie Larue and The Midnight Library were okay but predictable.
The Lost Apothecary was dreadful.
The Caraval series started well but took a swift nose dive after the first installment and despite a solid recommendation for the Leigh Bardugo and Holly Black books I cannot bring myself to like them.
Onwards and upwards!

TBR 31 (before the list came out)
TBR after the list: too many to go back and count!
Loved: Cloud Cuckoo Land, Born a Crime, Lincoln Highway, and Daisy Jones and the Six.
