Pretty sure Flowers for Algernon is not a morally clean book with minimal curse words. I found it to be exactly the opposite. My husband said he must have read an abridged version in high school because he doesn't remember any of that.

Just FYI.

I'm just in the 1st chapter of Undeadly (The Reaper Diaries, #1) by Michele Vail [which is on the list] and it already has quite a bit of language.

I love this list! I enjoy reading all sorts of genres and things that expand my knowledge of humanity as well as things just for fun. Thanks for giving me a list of possibilities - especially when there are so many books out there to read.

Some of the books on this list aren't books I would suggest for an LDS book club. I haven't read it but have been told My Sister's Keeper is full of language. Also The Thirteenth Tale has a scene that I would call "R rated" or at least strong PG-13.

What might be good is a group that gives details on the content of a book like the Parental Guide for movies on IMDB. They divide it into sections like language, alcohol/drug use, sexual content, and violence. Then each section gives details like 3 "D words" or a couple disappears into room but nothing is seen. That way you get a good idea of what's in the book without having to read it and get surprised. Lets face it, different LDS persons are going to have different ideas about what's okay to read. And there are Moms out there who want to know what's in their kid's books too. This way you could decide for yourself.

It would be nice to have a group like that. There is an LDS group on here, but it doesn't have a lot of info on it. Any time I read a book I make a note at the bottom of my review that lists the language and sexual content. It would be helpful if more reviewers would do something like that. Feel free to check out my reviews if that would be helpful to you.

I have read Memoirs of a Geisha and while it is interesting I would not recommend it for an LDS reading club. Even the description of it tells you that a young geisha's virginity is up for the highest bidder.

I agree Janet. This is actually kind of a weird list. There are several books on here that I would not pick for my LDS book club. Plus there are a lot of books that are high on the list that I've never even heard of and that have less than 50 reviews on all of goodreads which makes me feel like there are people somehow voting for their author friend's book multiple times to get it high on a list like this.
