A literary mystery set in turn-of-the-century Barcelona, the author's hometown. The city and its underground are beautifully recreated, with a polished style and a gripping fast paced narrative. It would make a great movie.

MJ, I am seeing some memoirs and in fact nearly threw some in myself, but your subscript clearly says novels. Do you want to allow memoirs, biographies, and autobiographies also, or should they be removed?

Oh dear, oh dear...

While they're unlikely to ever make the first page, I would advise anyone making a buying decision based on this list to check out Miss M's link to look at the authors involved in the vote swapping. There are two of them I see on the third page already that I guarantee would never be there on their own merits.

Holy smokes Batman, that's one drawer full of socks for a book that isn't even out yet.

It says "These are terrific, beautifully written novels that will entertain and leave you thinking". I'm not sure my choices will always 'entertain' but they certainly meet the other criteria :-)
