Sterlingcindysu Or another 0 at the end.

message 13: by karen (new)

karen hahha noooo - i am going to keep it reasonable this year. i have no problem increasing it as the year goes on if i find myself creeping up to it too quickly, but i would hate myself if i had to decrease it.

message 14: by Ana (new)

Ana Reasonable is a word to define it.. 200 books? You are my hero. Good luck!

message 15: by Steven (new)

Steven I think I'm going to reread some dostoevsky this year. and infinite jest. too bad goodreads doesn't acknowledge this.

message 16: by karen (new)

karen just review a different edition - that's what i usually do

message 17: by Dawn (new)

Dawn I thought I was ambitious!!! GO KAREN ! GO! I had more than I actually reviewed or put under my categories because I had to start over after stalker, so being close to 200 , I said 214 for the year 2014! HA! I will try but you have already read three or 5 by now! The reviews slow me Dow because I like them to look good . Then I tend to enjoy discussions! Happy year of reading my friend- keep me posted!!! Dawn

message 18: by Bill (new)

Bill hey karen, did you have a good holiday season? only 200 this time eh? planning on reading some really big books this year?

message 19: by karen (new)

karen yes! it was a fine holiday season! and now it is snowing here, so it is even better!! i have no idea how i read 284 in 2012, but 275 was a close one this year, which i blame on new job. so i am just gonna take it nice and easy with a manageable 200.

i hope everyone makes their challenges in 2014.....

message 20: by Bill (new)

Bill it seems amazing to me that you can read almost a book a day...i think i read a lot and i only got to 144 this year.

by the way, i just sent you a pm...looking forward to hearing from you...when you have time.

message 21: by karen (new)

karen yes! i will reply very soon! i am woefully behind on my emailing...

message 22: by Erik (new)

Erik A trained speed reader, or self taught? That's a lot of books to absorb; my brain might explode.

message 23: by karen (new)

karen no kind of speed reader at all!! just someone who takes advantage of free time...

message 24: by Dawn (new)

Dawn All of these comments and you even wite good reviews!!! I think I should change mine . YEAH ! I am . I am not in college anymore. My speed reading is out of practice ! I am chicken!!!! HA! Dawn. :)

message 25: by Lori (new)

Lori How do you become a trained speed reader? Wouldn't one miss the subtleties of the story or the beautiful way it's written??
I find myself rereading pages when the writing is so beautiful ;)

message 26: by Erik (new)

Erik Lori wrote: "How do you become a trained speed reader? Wouldn't one miss the subtleties of the story or the beautiful way it's written??

I was part of a program in my early youth where the school split my class in half and my half was taught how to read via "speed reading" methods and the other half taught normally (this was in 1st Grade). Oddly enough, the speed read half generally were the top half of the class come graduation. Coincidence? I think not. People who can read quickly are not afraid of homework assignments involving reading. My nickel's worth of dimes on that.

Not sure how you get trained once you are older and already know how to read... I know no other way of reading, and yes I must re-read a lot of pages to absorb.

message 27: by Ronyell (new)

Ronyell Wow!!! Good luck!!!

message 28: by karen (new)

karen hahah i'm trying!

message 29: by karen (new)

karen well, a lot of them were just short, so it is less impressive than it looks at first glance. but yeah!! go, me!! woohoo!

message 30: by Bill (new)

Bill YAY KAREN!!! I'm doing well too...I'm at 161!

How feeling now?

message 31: by karen (new)

karen hooray for readers! i'm betterish. i have a follow-up appointment tomorrow so i can know officially how i am feeling! but even though i am tired all the time, i think i am on the mend!

message 32: by Bill (new)

Bill that's great news.

did you hear the really bad news about Robin Williams committing suicide? that is so sad.

message 33: by karen (new)

karen what?? really?? holy shit. i have been out of the media loop, i guess. shit.

message 34: by Greg (new)

Greg Did you really just up your reading challenge? I'm never going to reach mine and you are now just showing off.

message 35: by karen (new)

karen i'm not showing off!! i was only 9 books away from meeting the challenge, and i figured i would read more books before december.

message 36: by Greg (new)

Greg I guess that makes sense, I guess you aren't just trying to make me feel bad about my own slowness in reading this year.

message 37: by karen (new)

karen not everything is about you, stahl. i rarely even think about you, so far back there, eating my dust...

message 38: by Wiltshire Hermit (new)

Wiltshire Hermit karen and greg...roadrunner and wile e. coyote. beep beep!

message 39: by Xand50 (new)

Xand50 How is this even possible?

message 40: by karen (new)

karen everything is possible

message 41: by Bill (new)

Bill fabulous picture, Karen. where did you find that?

congrats on your next book being #200!! I'm going to make it too, hopefully. I'm at 188.

message 42: by karen (new)

karen dunno, "the internet."

i actually have more than the 199 read - i just haven't had the time to do much on here. i have been stalled! but i'll add everything soon.

message 43: by Kate (new)

Kate You make me ashamed of myself.

message 44: by Debbie "DJ" (new)

Debbie "DJ" Get out!

message 45: by karen (new)

karen YOU get out!

katey - i don't think you should be ashamed at ALL, unless you were saying you felt ashamed for not reading such intellectual masterpieces as Mounted by a Monster: God Of Wood and Metal Cats and Please, Mr. Panda. because you should totally be ashamed of that.

message 46: by Debbie "DJ" (new)

Debbie "DJ" Can't...stuck on train..

message 47: by karen (new)

karen HA!

i'm surprised you are even coming up for air long enough to type that!

message 48: by Debbie "DJ" (new)

Debbie "DJ" Oh, F...air!!

message 49: by Kate (new)

Kate You're right, karen. I don't read NEARLY enough monsterporn. That will have to factor into my goal in the coming year.

message 50: by karen (new)

karen it will definitely increase your numbers. and your giggles.
