Snow Games Like Winter Games
16. Snowshoeing
Snowshoes are specialized outdoor gear for walking over snow. Their large footprint spreads the user's weight out and allows them to travel largely on top of rather than through snow. Adjustable bindings attach them to appropriate winter footwear.
Traditional snowshoes have a hardwood frame filled in with rawhide latticework. Modern snowshoes are made of lightweight metal, plastic, and other synthetic materials.
🥶Read a book with a shoe on the cover (Show cover) or with the word snow in the title of the book or where the authors initials can be found in BINDINGS.
17. Snow Tubing
Snow tubing is rumored to have begun as far back as the 1820s in the Alpine Mountains. This kind of tubing is almost always performed on a hill or slope, using gravity to propel the rider to the bottom of the grade. The low amount of friction between most tubes and snow allows tubers to reach considerable speeds while riding, especially on steep slopes. Because of the circular shape of snow tubes, controlling the course and speed of a tube while riding on snow is extremely difficult.
❄️ Read a book set in the 1800s or where a character faces some difficult situation or with a mountain or hill on the cover (Show cover.)
18. Snow Polo
Snow Polo is a version of polo which is exactly identical to that of polo, where players play the game on horsebacks, with the only difference being the surface on which games are played, which are ice surfaces; typically frozen lakes, rather than grass surfaces used for regular polo. The sport originated in Europe several decades ago. It is considered as an extreme and in certain contexts a crazy sport as well.
🏇 Read a book where polo is played or where the word ice is in the text (share page/loc) or with a lake on the cover (Show cover).

TASKS1. Cross country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing whereby skiers traverse snow-covered terrain without use of ski lifts or other assistance. Cross-country skiing is widely practiced as a sport and recreational activity but some still use it as a means of transportation. Skiers propel themselves either by striding forward (classic style) or side-to-side in a skating motion (skate skiing), aided by arms pushing on ski poles against the snow.
⛷️Read a book that is a classic or with a skier on the cover. (Show cover) or where the author's initials can be found in CROSS COUNTRY.

2. Alpine Skiing
Alpine skiing, or downhill skiing, is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings, unlike other types of skiing which use skis with free-heel bindings. Whether for recreation or for sport, it is typically practiced at ski resorts.
Alpine ski racing has been held at the Winter Olympics since 1936.

Ice skating is the self-propulsion and gliding of a person across an ice surface, using metal-bladed ice skates. Ice skating may be performed on naturally frozen bodies of water, such as ponds, lakes, canals, and rivers, and on human-made ice surfaces both indoors and outdoors.

4. Curling
Curling is a sport in which two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called rocks, across the ice curling sheet toward the house, a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a game are scored for the stones resting closest to the center of the house at the conclusion of each end, which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones once. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends. The path of the rock may be influenced by two sweepers with brooms or brushes, who accompany it as it slides down the sheet and sweep the ice in front of the stone. "Sweeping a rock" decreases the friction, which makes the stone travel a straighter path and the skills of the curlers determine the degree to which the stone will achieve the desired result.

6. Dogsled racing
A dog sled or dog sleigh is a sled pulled by one or more sled dogs used to travel over ice and through snow. Numerous types of sleds are used, depending on their function. They can be used for dog sled racing. Traditionally in Greenland and the eastern Canadian Arctic the Inuit had the dogs pull in a fan shape in front of the sled, while in other regions, such as Alaska and the western part of Northern Canada the dogs pull side by side in pairs. Dog power has been used for hunting and traveling for over a thousand years. As far back as the 10th century BCE these dogs have contributed to human culture.

8. Ice hockey
Ice hockey is a team sport played on ice skates, usually on an ice skating rink with lines and markings specific to the sport. In ice hockey, two opposing teams use hockey sticks to control, advance, and shoot a closed, vulcanized, rubber disc called a "puck" into the other team's goal. Each goal is worth one point. The team which scores the most goals is declared the winner. In a formal game, each team has six skaters on the ice at a time, barring any penalties, one of whom is the goaltender. Ice hockey is a full contact sport, and is considered to be one of the more physically demanding team sports. In 1994 hockey was officially recognized as Canada's national winter sport.

14. Snow snake
Snow snake is a Native American winter sport traditionally played by many tribes in the Great Lakes region, including the Ojibwe, Sioux, Wyandotte, Oneida and other Haudenosaunee people. A game of snow snake is played by four teams, called "corners", who compete in trying to throw their wooden "snow snakes" the farthest along a long trough, or track, of snow. The game is divided into rounds, and in a round each team gets four throws. At the end of each round, two points are awarded to the team of the person who made the farthest throw in the round, and one point is awarded for the second farthest throw. Play continues until one of the teams wins, by achieving a certain predetermined number of points (usually 7 or 11)

15. Slalom
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. A course is constructed by laying out a series of gates, formed by alternating pairs of red and blue poles. The skier must pass between the two poles forming the gate, with the tips of both skis and the skier's feet passing between the poles. A course has 55 to 75 gates for men and 40 to 60 for women. The vertical drop for a men's course is 180 to 220 m (591 to 722 ft) and measures slightly less for women. The gates are arranged in a variety of configurations to challenge the competitor.

TASKS
⛷️Read a book tagged as SPORTS or set in winter or with a hill or mountain on the cover. (Show cover).
3. Ice skating
⛸️Read a book where a character goes ice skating or with a body of water on the cover (Show cover) or where the first letter of the location can be found in ICE SKATING.
🧹Read a book where a character sweeps or has stones on the cover (Show cover) or where a character plays on a team.
5. Sledding
Sledding, sledging or sleighing is a winter sport typically carried out in a prone or seated position on a vehicle generically known as a sled (North American), a sledge (British), or a sleigh. In Russia sledges are used for maritime activities including fishing and commuting from island to island on ice.
🛷 Read a book with a sled on the cover (Show cover) or set on an island or where a character goes sledding.
🐶 Read a book with a dog on the cover (Show cover) or where a character travels somewhere or set in Alaska.
7. Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a recreational and competitive activity that involves descending a snow-covered surface while standing on a snowboard that is almost always attached to a rider's feet. Snowboarding was developed in the United States, inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing, and skiing. It became popular around the world, and was introduced as a Winter Olympic Sport at Nagano in 1998 and featured in the Winter Paralympics at Sochi in 2014.
🏂 Read a book set in the Japan or Russia, or read a book published in 1998 or 2014.
🏑 Read a book set in Canada, or read a book that is 6th in a series or read a book published in 1994.
9. Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is the practice of catching fish with lines and fish hooks or spears through an opening in the ice on a frozen body of water. Ice fishers may fish in the open or in heated enclosures, some with bunks and amenities.
🎣Read a book where a character goes fishing or where a character needs to warm up (Your interpretation) or where the first letter of each tittle word can be found in ICE FISHING. (Three word minimum).
10. Jack Jumping
Jack jumping, also known as Skibock in Europe, is an action sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow on a jackjumper. A jackjumper is a skiing device with a bench seat attached to a ski. The seat may be solidly mounted with a post, or sprung mounted with a shock-absorbing device. The origins of jack jumping, as well as its name, remain a mystery.
❄️ Read a book with a character called Jack or tagged mystery or with a bench on the cover (Show cover).
11. Snowkiting
Snowkiting is an outdoor winter sport where people use kite power to glide ton snow or ice. The skier uses a kite to give them power over large jumps. In the early days of snowkiting, foil kites were the most common type; nowadays many kiteboarders use inflatable kites.
🪁Read a book where someone jumps over something (Your interpretation) or a book with a kite on the cover (Show cover) or where the authors initials can be found in SNOWKITING.b>. '
12. Skeleton
Skeleton is a winter sliding sport in which a person rides a small sled, known as a skeleton bobsled (or -sleigh), down a frozen track while lying face down and head-first. The sport and the sled may have been named from the bony appearance of the sled.
Unlike other sliding sports of bobsleigh and luge, the race always involves single riders.
☠️ Read a book with a skeleton on the cover (Show cover) or a stand alone book or a small book (under 150 pages).
13. Snowmobiling
A snowmobile, also known as a snowmachine, motor sled, motor sledge, skimobile, or snow scooter, is a motorized vehicle designed for winter travel and recreation on snow. It is designed to be operated on snow and ice and does not require a road or trail, but most are driven on open terrain or trails. Snowmobiling is a sport that many people have taken on as a serious hobby.
❄️Read a book with a motorized vehicle on the cover (Show cover) or where a character goes for a drive or where the first letter of each title word can be found in SNOWMOBILING. (Three word minimum).
Play continues until one of the teams wins, by achieving a certain predetermined number of points (usually 7 or 11)
🐍 Read a book with a Native American or read a book that an item gets thrown or which is second in a series.
⛷️Read a book that has either a red or blue cover (Show cover) or read a book where the word gate can be found in text (Give a partial sentence and page/loc #) or where the authors initials can be found in SLALOM.
