You know i've already read about half of these... there's got ot be more! :)

I agree Arianna, with me having no life at all, I have all the time in the world to pour through books (even if I cannot for my skin remember what they were about).

Everybody starts Ulysses, but do they actually finish it?

For those of you who put slaughter-house five on the list. If you never get to any of the others, get to that one! It's quick and easy and amazing. The best book EVER! And I don't say things like that lightly.

I finished Ulysses! My senior seminar in college was on James Joyce, and we spent most of the semester on it. I still haven't been able to muscle my way through Finnegans Wake, though.

I've got quite a few of these at home, I really should read them now, at least I have finally read 1984 and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Meredith- Congrats! I am ashamed to say that I have never finished this particular novel.

Thanks, Kel! It would never have been possible if I hadn't had a great professor to guide us through it! It's a tough read.

Are we supposed to look at this list so that if authors aren't near the top it's becuase people have already read them?

My own theory is that if it hasn't been out at least 20 years you don't really know if it's a classic.

Not so. I read slow but have been at it for 60 years.

I've started it about five times since high school and never get past the first chapter!

Sometimes life is too short to slog through a 'classic'. If I'm not enjoying a book after 100 pages in, I abandon it. Ulysses I have tried twice and had to give up on. It hasn't left a hole in my existance. ;-)

I read through War and Peace, it was hard! It was really, really boring at times, but I read it without cheating once! =D

Thanks to goodreads I was just able to remove 6 of them!

So far this is one of my favourite Lists!!!
