With two team members in the hospital and another traumatized by their last near-fatal case, Special Agent Emma Last and her partner are the only ones left standing—and the only ones available to tackle a gruesome murder in Boston.
If Emma can survive the drive through Salem.
Her increasing encounters with the Other and the terrifying dreams that haunt her are nothing compared to the disturbing pull of her childhood home. But making peace with the Other will have to wait.
The husband of a local politician has been found murdered, his naked body—minus a certain appendage—thrown from the rooftop of a high-class hotel, the Roman numeral one carved in his chest. The case seems cut and dried. The victim’s wife is running for mayor, and with all but one of her opponents suspiciously forced out of the race, his murder reeks of a warning message.
Until the prime suspect turns up dead.
With leads piling up as fast as the bodies, the countdown is on. Because if two follows one, then the killer has his sights on victim three. Unless Emma can stop him first.

LAST VOTE is the tenth installment in Mary Stone's the Emma Last FBI Mystery Series. If you are new to the series, each investigation and each bad character is unique and the stories are page turners that keep you on the edge of your seat.
The last case devastated the team. Emma and Leo are the only two members standing. Vance is still being treated for second-degree burns and a traumatic brain injury; Mia is suffering the trauma of being abducted and being force-fed pure methamphetamine and Denae is in a coma after being shot. Unfortunately, Emma and Leo are pulled from their friends' side to help the Boston FBI office with a brutal murder. This case has political overtures, putting it on high priority. Before this case is closed, Emma will need to make a tough decision.
This is a well written story with plenty of drama, suspense, horror, twists and turns. Your emotions will be all over the place. LAST VOTE is definitely worth reading.
I recommend this book and the entire Emma Last FBI series to those that enjoy thrillers. I did receive a copy of this book from the author and the above is my honest review.
Emma Last has a secret and only her good friend Mia knows it. Emma sees and speaks to ghosts! Leo Ambrose is partnered with Emma try to track down a killer. The killer is taking out guys who use and support a sex trafficking ring. They pay a heavy price and then lose their lives to this killer. While their best friend and Leo's love interest lies close to death in a hospital, they are trying to find this killer. He's elusive and he is one step ahead of them. The killer is on a mission and it's all about vengeance. And finally Emma shares her secret with Leo. While he's not sure what to believe he certainly gets to know very quickly that Emma can do what she says she can do. This was a "fun" book. There are some twists and turns as they hunt down the killer. And there is a new mysterious player who is in Emma's corner. The next one should be even more exciting.
Emma Last and her partner Leo Ambrose have left their usual FBI office to assist on a case in Boston. SSA Jacinda offered assistance to the Boston Bureau since they were short handed on a mysterious murder of a politician's husband. Leo's girlfriend Denea who was shot during their last case at home is still in the hospital recovering, while two other of their usual team members are recovering also. Emma has finally told Leo that she can feel, see and hear ghosts. Leo is still not quite sure how the ghost communication works but though he listens he still is leary of it. Emma keeps seeing women ghosts saying almost the same thing in the places the murder took place. Hopefully they can assist during their time in Boston and solve this murder. Curious? Read the Emma Last Series by Mary Stone. I think you will enjoy reading all of her books.
Emma and Leo are sent to help Boston FBI find a killer that mutillated his first victim they know he is first because that is written on his body.
Emma and Leo are the 2 left whole, the others are injured. The boss hates to do it but they are needed else where so he sends them to help. The bodies keep adding up and all are high rollers and big wigs in town. The kind that think their money allows them to do what ever they want. The only problem is someone doesn’t agree with them. The FBI are trying to find out what started this and how to end it before anymore deaths. Emma has the help of the ghosts to get the right clues but they don’t make it easy on her.
This book as all of Mary Stone’s stories is hard to put down. From the first page to the last , you enter into the life of Emma Last, her encounters with spirits and some really bad criminals. Along with her partner, Leo, they head to Boston for another weirdly specific case. They nearly always “get their man”, but at times the cost seems almost too much to take. Secretes are revealed in this book, not only Emma’s , but but Others that makes you anxious to dive headfirst into the next book to see where it leads. This is another incredible story from an incredible author.
Emma Last…another unique and amazing character created by Mary Stone. This thriller of a storyline has an intensity that only Mary Stone can craft. Add in ghosts giving Emma clues in a foreign language and this makes this book hard to put down. The author tugs on our heartstrings as three of the FBI team are hospitalized with life threatening injuries sustained during the last case. Mary Stone can certainly take the reader on an unforgettable journey. Cannot wait for the next in this series. BRAVO!
As members of Emma’s team are fighting for their lives, she and Leo have been asked to help their cohorts in Boston who are also undermanned. When they arrive they find out that someone has killed a wealthy man viciously on the top of a famous hotel. Emma spots two young ghosts at the top of the hotel who speak to her in a foreign language. Now they are in a race to find the killer before they strike again.
This was fast and very twisty storyline. Emma and Leo are in Boston, helping the local FBI to solve the murder. They can’t figure out the motif till the ghosts or the dead girls help. It makes the mystery more interesting and there are moments, when I caught myself rooting for the killer. Ouch. That’s how brilliantly Mary spins her crime stories. It keeps me involved and reading her books is the time deliciously spent. Yes! Please more. Thank you .
This is the tenth book in the Emma Last series by Mary Stone. While part of the team is in the hospital trying to recover from injuries suffered in tyheir last case, Mary and Leo are sent to Boston to help solve a case there.
The book is full of mystery and suspense and I can hardly wait for the next book in the series.
Emma and Leo are assigned the task of finding the murderer of the husband of a woman campaigning to become the new mayor of town. The victim has been mutilated. Evidence shows the DNA of a woman ( not his wife) was found along with the victim. But when the prime subject is also murdered in the same fashion the search takes a new turn. Definitely a must read!
When Emma & Leo are the only 2 left on the team because Denae, Vance & Mia are in the hospital from the last case, they are summoned to Boston to help with a case. One of the mayoral candidate’s husband is found murdered & mutilated which leads to a lot of questions surrounding the reason. This is a fast paced read that will not disappoint.
so often, as here, procedurals feel like wading through molasses
A brutal killer is on the loose. His motivation slowly emerges, as wealthy, immoral libertines meet their dreadful fate, and as federal and local law enforcement close in.
And it’s clear that the wolf, from The Other, is after Emma - for what reason remains unknown.
Couldn’t put this book down! The murders were brutal and well deserved. I couldn’t wait to find out what this vigilante would do next. Knowing that most of the team was in the hospital puts you on edge, but the last page gives you hope. I wish there was more about The Other in this one, but we did get a glimpse of one of the women from Emma’s mothers past. I cannot wait for the next installment.
This story has so much action and intrigue. Emma and her team, along the other law enforcement solved an awful series of crimes. But its not as simple as that. The in between has a lot going on. The personal relationships and how and where that co-exists with the drama, really kept me enraptured in this story. The ending was perfect.
As much bad and the horror they bring to the undeserving you really must believe there is good still in the world! This is about the horrible things that often can happen and how money can corrupt. I for one hope it is not as common but fear unfortunately it is! Maybe there is something true in the saying "Money is the root of evil." Moo
I have been so invested in Emma Last series! Every book keeps me up until the wee hours of the morning. The author has done a fabulous job with the evolution of Emma & Leo. The action, pace and storytelling is superb. Each book has me on edge of my seat. Love this series and looking forward to more!
Three of their FBI team were in the hospital. Vance had been badly burned and Denea had lost a lot of blood when she was shot near her heart. They were both in a coma. Emma and Leo were sent to help another FBI team after the husband of the leading politician for Mayor. Wow the brutality and twists in this one were fast paced.
ANOTHER GREAT READ IN THIS SERIES. THE STORYLINE IS ORIGINAL AND GRABS YOU AND WON'T LET GO TILL THE END. PLENTY OF TWISTS AND TURNS TO KEEP YOU TURNING PAGES TILL THE END. WELL WRITTEN WITH GREAT CHARACTERS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES.
Mary Stone's books never disappoint, and this one definitely did not. Last Vote was a fast-paced thriller with twists and turns that had me hooked until the last page. Cannot wait to until the next book in the series. I am an ARC member, and this is my honest review.
Last vote is the tenth installment in the Emma Last series. This book keeps me on the edge of my seat. I can’t wait to see what the Others have planned for Emma. What was the story with her mom and friends? Can’t wait to find out. Waiting for the next one. Hurry.
This is the tenth book in the Emma Last series. It’s a page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat. Emma and Leo travel to Boston to help solve the case of a wealthy businessman. Lots of twists, drama, suspense and intrigue. A very good mystery.
A vivid story of human trafficking and its ramifications will captivate you. This is obviously a story that needs to be finished. At least something positive may happen.
This series just keeps us on edge. Heart stopping moments throughout the book. Great down to earth characters that have become beloved friends and horrific criminals. Great continuing backstory that we are slowly learning about. Can’t wait for the next book.
If you like really good procedural whodunits, where FBI agents are still worthy of repute, Emma Last and her team are. Great plots, too!! Only thing I don't like is having to wait for the next one!!!
Emma and Leo are sent to Boston to help catch a killer only to find a trafficking ring run by the wealthy in the area and a vengeful brother killing them for the murder of his sister. When they return home they join a vigil for Denae, she awakens.
Emma shares her secrets with Leo, and he's struggling but he believes her. They have gone to Boston to help them catch a killer who is taking out a group of rich men who are trafficking young Romanian teens. Passing through Salem causes Emma problems.
As with the previous 9 books I was unable to put this book down. It grabs you and deletes go until you finish it but then you can’t wait to get the next book in the series.
The energy of the "Other" is getting stronger and more interesting. I enjoyed the role that the "Other" played in this story. I liked that Emma finally shared the information with Leo.
