Africa. A continent few of us will get to explore. And here is a young man, kayaking down rivers, through the Congo, through areas still unmapped and explored. Much more than a memoir, it addresses many questions about the continent, its peoples, the interactions and cultural nuances. The title of this books speaks for itself. Each day this guy lives as a guide is indeed the best day ever, since he survived it. The things he survives would be cause to celebrate, though much of those times were poorly thought out and poorly carried out. The thing that matters most to him is excitement, a thrill. Often on a suicidal level. I did ask myself if he was on a suicide mission. Some of the situations he found himself in leads the reader to think he is either suicidal or a full blown i

Took me forever because I mostly read a few pages at a time, over lunch at work. The story is better than the book. Stories, not story. They're really good. They don't hang together as a book very well, but that doesn't matter a whole lot.
