Oh yes, reading in order is needed. The series is about a big, close family (all the 'children' get a book) and to get the gyst of the background, it's necessary to start at the beginning. Book #7 is about child #7. :)

~KarenH~ | 11334 comments Thanks for the picks, Kami! A few of them I've had my eye on and have just been waiting for an excuse to read (Magic Bites, Moon Called, Vampire Academy) and I've never heard of With Good Behavior, but it sounds good too. I'm not sure about the buddy read yet, I'll PM you about that soon.

Thanks again!

message 204: by Katie (new)

Katie | 2083 comments hey Kayla! i read a lot of m/m romance, but i don't know if that's something you would be interested in. so i'm going to give you two choices per category...one m/f and one m/m...or at least i'm going to try to :) hope you find something in here that will work for you!

Historical
ok, so i don't like m/m historicals...so just m/f here.
The Duke And I -- julia quinn is a favorite author of mine. this was my first book by her and i still love it!
Secrets of a Summer Night -- i saw you had some lisa kleypas on your shelves and i really loved this series.

Contemporary
Long Hard Ride -- lorelei james is great. this one has some m/f/m menage and one tiny bit of m/m, but the majority of the story is focused on one m/f pairing.
I'll Be Your Drill, Soldier -- so good! if you're at all thinking about giving m/m a try then you should definitely go for this one. i loved this book!

Urban Fantasy
Dead Until Dark -- i just read this one a couple months ago and i really enjoyed it. i'm also one of the few who hasn't seen the tv series...though i'm thinking about seeing if i can't fix that :)
Change of Heart -- mary calmes is one of my favorite m/m writers.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Dark Lover -- i can't think of this category and not immediately want to rec jr ward's black dagger brotherhood. this is an amazing series that you've just got to try. i'll tell you right now that the first book isn't the strongest, but you've gotta start at the beginning, right?
Blacque/Bleu -- good book, though quite frankly, if you're going to go for this category i really think you should read the other one :)

Paranormal Romance (non-Vampire)
The Mane Event -- i LOVE shelly laurenston. amazing books with so much humor. this is a great series...and shifters are so hot...
Litha's Constant Whim -- you cannot go wrong with a book by amy lane. great stories with lovable characters.

Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance
Love at First Bight -- so it turns out i don't read a ton of this stuff, but i really wanted to recommend things that i've already read. this book is really great...i love tymber dalton, but a warning, this one isn't m/f, it's m/m/m/f menage.
My Fair Captain -- this one is interesting. it's from jl langley's sci-regency series.

Romantic Suspense
Dangerous Boys and Their Toy -- this one features some really light m/m play, but is mostly m/f/m.
The Archer -- this is a favorite of mine...it's so good. it's one of the only suspense stories that i've read that kept me guessing until the end. it's full of action and humor and HIGHLY recommended :)

Erotic Romance
Tempting the Beast -- can you even think 'erotic romance' without thinking of lora leigh?
Take My Picture -- another really sweet m/m story. i loved it.

Buddy Read
Where's My Hero? -- like i said above, i love julia quinn and lisa kleypas, and this book has both of them!
Oscar's Soul -- i've been wanting to read this one for awhile :)

enjoy!

Melissa ** | 544 comments Hi Michelle!! I hope you like the picks. If you don't find anything you like let me know I will try again!

Historical
The Bride - Julie Garwood is really the only HF auhtor I have read, but I did like them a lot!

Contemporary
Perfect Chemistry - One of my favorites.

Urban Fantasy
Dead Witch Walking. I think this is considered UF. I still get confused about the difference between PR and UF.

PR (vampires)
Vampire Academy - This is almost my favorite series. It rates right up there with Cat and Bones.

PR (non-vampires)
The Body Finder - This was a pick for me from a past PIFM challenge.

Sci/Fi Futristic
The Hunger Games - This a must read triology. If you do decide on this books make sure you have the other two books ready to read.

Romantic Suspense
Darkfever - The fever series is the BEST!!

Eroctic
Addicted

Buddy Read
Bitten We did not have any To-Reads that were the same, but I think this book would pretty good.

Hi Caroline!
I am glad that you found some interesting books to read this month. I hope you like them, and I look forward to hearing your feedback! If you can get a hold of The Hunger Games this weekend why don’t we read it this coming week? I am ashamed to admit that I am one of those people that once they say “Oh, I can do that later,” later becomes never. Its like a procrastination sickness. Even for things I really want to do! So, I would like to do a buddy read right away so I don’t disappoint. If that is okay with you let me know.
Hope you enjoy the wedding! :)

Pam | 1048 comments Penney-
I looked at this as this what books/authors do I buy or borrow as soon as they come out challenge.

Historical--I love Julia Quinn. My favorite is the Bevelstoke series which starts with The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever but my favorite is What Happens in London

Contemporary. I read Nora Roberts in all permutations. I liked the Bride Quartet (first one Vision in White. I currently have a loaned copy of Chasing Fire in my to read pile which my friend says was great.

Urban Fantasy. I have become fond of Mercy Thompson. I see you read Moon Called. They keep getting better but you do need to read them in order so Blood Bound would be next.

PNR (Vampire) Not a lot of reading in this area. Last month for this challenge I read Undead and Unwed which I enjoyed for its comic touch

PNR not vampire anything by Jayne Ann Krentz or Amanda Quick (historical) who are the same person. Can be read in any order.

Sci Fi--Jayne Castle who is Krentz/Quick third persona otherwise I would read an unread JD Robb

Romantic Suspense--Suzanne Brockmann or Iris Johansen are my go to girls here. I like the Troubleshooter series or the early Eve Duncans

Erotic Romance--I'm not a great source here. I guess Lora Leigh Dangerous Games

Buddy Reads--We both have Agnes and the Hitman and The Perfect Play if you want to do a buddy read.

Hope something looks good

message 213: by Sue (new)

Sue (knitwitsl) | 226 comments Suzanne,

You have a lot of books on your tbr pile! I had originally picked out most of my recommendations when I first read the rules for this month. Then I went to your books today to make sure I wasn’t recommending any that you have already read. There are some that show up on your profile, but not on a shelf or rated. So I’m hoping that means you have not read them. If you have, please let me know and I’ll make some more recommendations (although it may be a bit late because tomorrow through Monday I’m moving - but I’ll try to find a place to log on and check). Anyhow, here are my recommendations for you.

Historical
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I really love this book and the writing. This is one of the books I see on your profile, but hope you haven’t read yet.

Comtemporary
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie
Jennifer Cruise is one of my favorite authors and this is one of my favorites from her.

Urban Fantasy
Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer series) by Karen Chance
This is my favorite series and the latest one comes out in June.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks series) by Jennifer Rardin
I really like the main vampire in this series.

Paranormal Romance (other than vampire)
Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling Series) by Nalini Singh
This is a great series that mixes shape shifters and a race with extra-ordinary senses. It’s quite interesting.

Sci-Fi / Futuristic
Naked in Death (In Death Series) by J.D. Robb
I like the couple in this futuristic series. I see you’ve read the first five, so I’m actually suggesting that you read the sixth, which I think is Vengeance in Death.

Romantic Suspense
Getting Rid Of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie
I know, a second Crusie book. But I really like her books and this book is one of the few I’ve read multiple times!

Erotic Romance
I didn’t think I had read any books under this heading, but I went through some of the lists on Goodreads and found the Black Dagger Brotherhood books there! But I see you’re up to date on that series. Then I found the Carpathian series there as well. I’ve only read a couple, but I did like them. And I see you’ve read at least one on your list. So, the first one is Dark Prince. If you have already read that one, how about the next one in the series that you have not :-)

Buddy Read
The only books we had in common on our tbr piles are not romances. So, I went to the best-sellers list of romances on Amazon and scrolled down the list until I found one that I would like to read. So, I’m suggesting This Matter Of Marriage by Debbie Macomber. It just sounds like a nice, fun book to read!

I hope you find something in this list that you would like to read!

Sue-

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 1966 comments Hello Lady Allison St. Vincent's! Here are my picks for you. It is so hard to narrow down all of my favorites, so I also tried to take into account your TBR list. These are all books that I loved and plan to reread in the future. I hope that you find something that you like!

Historical Romance
The Secret(Highlands' Lairds Series #1) by Julie Garwood
Castles (Crown Spies #4) by Julie Garwood - This book can be read stand alone, I read it first and it is my favorite in the series. The first book in the series is called The Lion's Lady.
Outlander (Outlander #1) by Diana Gabaldon - This is one of my favorite couples of all time. I wasn't sure which category to put this in because there is time travel involved, so I hope this works!

Contemporary Romance
Smooth Talking Stranger(Travises #3) by Lisa Kleypas was a great book. I didn't realise this one belonged in a series either, so I read this one first and it remains my favorite. The first book in the series is called Sugar Daddy.
The You I Never Knew by Susan Wiggs

Urban Fantasy
Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows #1) by Kim Harrison - This is a great series!

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Interview With the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles #1) by Anne Rice - My favorite one in this series is #4 The Tale of the Body Thief. These need to be read in order though!
Morrigan's Cross (Circle Trilogy #1) by Nora Roberts - A great trilogy with vampires, witches, sorcerers, shapeshifters, time travel and more!
Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica #1) by Beth Fantaskey - A lighter young adult read.

Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires)
The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches #1) by Anne Rice
Jewels of the Sun (Gallaghers of Ardmore #1) by Nora Roberts - A great trilogy with a ghost and a fairy king.

Sci-Fi/ Futuristic Romance
Naked in Death (In Death #1) by J.D. Robb
Watchers by Dean Koontz

Romantic Suspense
Heartbreaker (Buchanan #1) by Julie Garwood
Something About You by Julie James

Erotic Romance
Voyeur by Lacey Alexander - I haven't read many of these, but I would say that this one is my favorite so far.
To Pleasure a Lady (Courtship Wars #1) by Nicole Jordan - Not considered erotic, but I found it to be sexy.

Buddy Read
Crave by J.R. Ward

message 215: by Shea (new)

Shea | 278 comments Hey Shell, I hope you will find something you like in here!

These are my recommendations for you:

Historical: Prisoner of My Desire by Johanna Lindsey

Johanna Lindsey writes great historical romances and this one of my favorites. I think I’ve read it at least 10 times!

Contemporary: Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James

I’m not a big reader of contemporary romance, so I could be way off base with this recommendation. However, it has gotten good reviews and many people were on the wait list for it at my library.

Urban Fantasy: Moon Called by Patricia Briggs

This is a goodie that is also on your TBR. I just started it myself.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire): Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward

This series has received raved reviews and I like it as well. I see that you’ve read the first 6, so I just picked the next up from your TBR.

Paranormal Romance (Other than Vampires): Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione

This PNR series deals with demons. It has just the right combination of romance, action, and plot twists. It’s on your TBR as well.

Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance: Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Both of us have this on our TBR so it could be another possible buddy read if you are interested.

Romantic Suspense: When You Dare by Lori Foster

I’ve seen good reviews for this author, but have yet to read one of her books. The few romantic suspense books I’ve read, I didn’t like very much. This one looks promising so I’ve put it down for a buddy read as well.

Erotic Romance: Only Pleasure by Lora Leigh

Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy

I’ve listed two options for this category depending on your comfort level with erotica. The 1st one has a ménage theme, so this may or may not be your cup of tea. The 2nd option is more of a contemporary-romance with some erotic elements thrown in.

Buddy Read: When You Dare by Lori Foster

Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon

message 216: by Penney (last edited Apr 28, 2011 05:14PM) (new)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Ok Jimmy I've got my popcorn and I'm ready to roll so, here we go...

Historical **Da, Da Da Dummm...
I've chosen three of my favorite books (all 5 stars) the main reason being, they are all nontraditional historicals. I don't think any of these follow "normal" patterns with nary a rape scene in sight.
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley ~ You even recommended it this month. There's a good reason for that.
Her One Desire by Kimberly Killion ~ Ignore the title. She's the daughter of the King's executioner and he's an outlaw slated for torture and execution. Different from the start.
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon ~ I know, I know, it's really long and out of your comfort zone, but it's my favorite book and I recommend it every chance I get. I don't consider it a Historical Romance. It's a true historical novel with a wonderful love story and fantasy twist.

Contemporary
Do you know how hard it is to choose for The King of the Contemporary Romance? I think I found some good ones tho...
Naked by Megan Hart ~ I know you like this author and the heroine is a photographer. Can't go wrong with that combo.
Just One Of The Guys by Kristan Higgins ~ No sex, but very funny and a really sweet love story. She has a very sarcastic sense of humor that had me belly laughing the whole way through.
Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning ~ I haven't actually read this one, but I've heard great things (and it was free on amazon). If you want to do a buddy read, let me know.

Urban Fantasy
I've always differentiated between UF and PNR by the lack of romance and hea. It's one of the reason that I usually don't care for this sub-genre, but these two books are awesome. They are both firsts in a series where each book is better than the last. *Spoiler* They also both have HEAs and romance, just not in the first book.
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews ~ I did this on audio, and although the narrator is a bit over top during action scenes (kinda like she's telling ghosts stories around a camp fire), she portrays the heroine's dry, snarky sense of humor perfectly. I've grown to love her.
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning ~ If you like flawed characters, you'll like this series.

Paranormal Romance (Vamps)
Ok, this was way too hard. All the vamp books I would normally recommend, you've already read and the others, you wouldn't like. But you might be into this one...
Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Paranormal Romance (non vamp)
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh ~ I adore this series. It's difficult in the beginning to like the 'hero', Raphael until you realize, not only is he not human, he's over 1000 years old. Singh does a great job of reminding the reader of this fact and putting as much reality into as possible. She also does a great job of showing his growth and increasing interest in humanity as the series progresses. LOVE. IT.
Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank ~ I don't know why I haven't continued with this series because I really enjoyed it. I think I just got caught up in other things.

Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance
What little I've read in this category you've already gotten to, but I have one more...
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh ~ I guess I just really like this author, but this series is very different from the other. I don't know if it's considered futuristic or alternate reality, but let's not bone pick. Very, very sexy series.

Romantic Suspense
The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann ~ This has a story within a story. Some people find that a turn off, but I found it to be refreshingly different.
Midnight Man by Lisa Marie Rice ~ This one probably borders erotica, but once again, let's not bone pick. It's not a piece of literary excellence, but I really liked it.

Erotic Pleasure Zone
Love My Way by Bridget Midway ~ The premise may sound a bit cheesy, but it's one of the few erotica novels that I really enjoyed the story along with the sex. It's a great glimpse into the world of BDSM.
Comfort Food by Kitty Thomas ~ This probably isn't true erotica, but I wouldn't know where to place it. It's a unique and disturbing look at sexual slavery in it's truest sense. Very interesting read.
Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James ~ Dirty hot sex in every way imaginable.
I should take that back, you have a pretty active imagination ;p

Ok, I started this with popcorn and two hours later I'm finishing up with Prosecco. I hope you like!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Penney, I can say that I am impressed. If I kept a TBR, I would add all of these. As it is, I will see what I can find. Who knows, I might even read Outlander some day, and just because you recommended it.

message 218: by Ann (new)

Ann (annabell123) I did find a few that I will try to pick up. Actually, I have them all already, so it is just a matter of actually reading them. Here is what I liked:

Darkfever
Halfway to the Grave
First Grave on the Right

And that would be the order I would read them in too. So maybe I will just get to one, or maybe I will read more. Thanks for the picks!

Historical - The Second Duchess
Contemporary - Savor the Moment

Romantic Suspense - Darkfever
Erotic Romance - Wild Card

Buddy Read - Love Walked In

Historical
Then Came You by Lisa Kleypas. A great book with an out of the ordinary heroine.

Contemporary
Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James. Super funny!, sexy and sweet.
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. One of my favorite books, soooo sweet!

Urban Fantasy
Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Great series, I liked this book better than the first one.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill. I just started this series and loooved it!

Paranormal Romance (Shifters)
[[book:The Mane Event|341027] by Shelly Laurenston. Sexy and funny.

Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. One of my favorite series set in a weird future.

Romantic Suspense
One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. I love this series and the movie is coming this summer, if you're into a light, funny read with a little suspense, then get this book.

Erotic Romance
The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton. This book was a hit on this challenge las month.

Buddy Read
A Lot Like Love by Julie James. The last book by Julie James, I just got it and can't wait to read it.

Hello Renne!

My apologies if I pick you crap paranormal stuff, I don’t read it at all, so I have no idea what I’m recommending in that area. I just go by ratings and quotes. Hopefully you’ll find something you like!

Historical - Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare, one of my favourite historicals! This is more light and entertaining than most of the heavy, dark, London stuff
Contemporary - Connelly's Flame (The Megalodon Team #3) by Aliyah Burke, starts out pretty slow, but turns out to be a fantastic read
Urban Fantasy - Wither (Chemical Garden #1) by Lauren DeStefano, it's got a good rating and was listed under Urban Fantasy
Paranormal Romance (with the teeth) - Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood #1) by J.R. Ward, people seem to go on and on about this series
Paranormal Romance (without the teeth) - Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance #1) by Larissa Ione, the hero carries the world’s fate on his shoulders....ummm, sounds cool?
Sci-Fic / Futuristic - Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair, it has some telepathy in it, and I didn't like that, but this is good. Some painful emotions with the hero crazy in love (secretly) with the heroine
Romantic Suspense - Codename: Nanny (SEAL and Code Name #5) by Christina Skye, the best kickass heroine ever! Summer is tough inside and out.
Erotic Romance - Riding West, first things first, the cover is really, really hot. Besides that, this is a surprisingly well written Western erotica about good looking people having sex, getting married, and having more sex.
Buddy Read - Yours for the Taking by Robin Kaye, a modern marriage of convenience. Sounds unusual to me.

Enjoy!

Goddess of the Hunt (Goddess Trilogy, #1) by Tessa Dare Connelly's Flame (The Megalodon Team, #3) by Aliyah Burke Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance, #1) by Larissa Ione Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair Code Name Nanny (SEAL and Code Name, #5) by Christina Skye Riding West by Emma Wildes Yours for the Taking by Robin Kaye

Kiss of Midnight is also very good!

Historical: These Old Shades by Georgette Heyer. A bit of an "old school" historical novel, in my opinion. It also features one of my favorite plot devices; the heroine disguised as a male!

Contemporary: Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie. I love Agnes as the heroine. She's quirky and fun and doesn't take any crap. It definitely grabbed my interest in Jennifer Crusie as a writer, too.

Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy. I'm not really a Nascar fan and you may not be either, but that certainly didn't hinder my enjoyment while reading. This is easily becoming one of my favorite series to read.

Urban Fantasy: Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. This series kind of exploded on the reading scene and I was resistant towards it for quite awhile. However, once I cracked that cover, I devoured the rest of the series in about a month. The author does a great job of blending present day with fantasy elements.

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. I'll admit that I first judged this book by its cover. I could help but roll my eyes when I saw a chick with a sword and a lion on the front. But boy, was I wrong about this book. The heroine, Kate Daniels, might just be in my top ten literary females. Definitely not a TSTL wet-blanket!

Paranormal Romance - Vampires: The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason. Not a bad start to a series. If you like historical settings and vampires (which I definitely do!), then you might actually enjoy giving this a try.

Lover Mine by J.R. Ward. I saw this lurking around on your TBR. I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with the series, but that's no reason why you shouldn't cut down on your own TBR pile! ;)

Paranormal Roamnce - Non Vampires: Warrior by Zoe Archer. Such an awesome series! Not only is the story interesting and fresh to the paranormal world, but the author does a wonderful job in terms of imagery and description.

The Smoke Thief by Shana Abé. With a neat take on the world of dragons, the Drakon series starts off with a great first novel. Rue makes a great surly heroine at times and I guarantee you that you'll grow a soft spot for her protegé, Zane.

Sci-Fi: The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. One of the best books I've read so far this year. This steampunk romance got me hooked on the genre and the second book, in my opinion, can't be released fast enough!

Romantic Suspense: Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare. A lot of people, especially in this group, seem to really be enjoying the series. Even I couldn't help but pick up a copy to give it a shot.

Memory in Death by J.D. Robb. I just joined the In Death bandwagon, butI'm enjoying it so far. Maybe you'd like to get back into the series once again, Anja.

Erotica: Sinful by Charlotte Featherstone. This book is probably the only one in my read pile that could be classified as erotica. The story wasn't that bad, though I'll be honest, the heroine needs to be absorbed in small doses.

Club Shadowlands by Cherise Sinclair. I'm planning on reading this book for my monthly reading challenge. I've seen this series on a lot of challenges since I joined earlier this year. Not sure about your comfort level in terms of these things, but hey, you might like it as well.

Buddy Reads: Unveiled by Courtney Milan. I recently purchased this book at my local Borders' Going Out of Business sale. I've read a lot of positive reviews for it and I'd be happy to start reading it with you.

A Lot Like Love by Julie James. Ever since I read the excerpt after I finished Something About You, I've been wanting to start this.

Outlander by Diana Gabladon. I'm suggesting this because my picker, Alexis, chose this book for our buddy read. If you're interested, perhaps we can turn it into an awesome trifecta of buddy reading!

Leah (leahkarge) Hey, Lili! Here are your picks. I hope there is something here you might want to read! :)

Historical
Scandal in Spring by Lisa Kleypas - You've read the first three of the series and gave them really high ratings, so you might as well finish the series!

The Captain of All Pleasures by Kresley Cole - You have read KC's other series and have seemed to enjoy them, so you might like this series.

Contemporary
Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery - You have a lot of Susan Mallery's books on your shelves and she is one of my favorite comteporary romance authors.

A Lot Like Love by Julie James - She is another of my favorite CR writers and I loved all of her books. You seem to have liked most of them, too, and this is the only one you haven't read yet.

Urban Fantasy
Succubus on Top by Richelle Mead - It's not my favorite of the series, but it is still a good installment.

Frostbite by Richelle Mead - I love this book; it's one of my favorites of the series.

Soulless by Gail Carriger - This is the only book of the series that I read, but I really enjoyed it.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
Kiss of the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I love Wulf! He is so cute. And I love the series. SK is one of my favorite PNR writers.

The Vampire's Bride by Gena Showalter - I know this is the fourth in the series, but this is the one that's about the vampire king. This one and the one before it are my favorites of the series :)

Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires)
Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh - This is not my favorite of the series, but you have read the first six and I really love the whole series.

Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter - I really enjoyed this series. I think it definitely gets better as it goes along. Also, the first two books of the series are in first person, but they are PNR, not UF.

Sci-Fi/Futuristic Romance
Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I love this series! I cannot wait to read the new one that just came out!

Rapture in Death by J.D. Robb - This is the fourth of the series, and I noticed that you are currently reading the third one, so you might want to read the next one :)

Romantic Suspense
Phantom in the Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon - I recently read this book and I love the series. Sherrilyn Kenyon is a great author, and she writes well with Dianna Love.

Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare - I have never read this, but I hear that it is a great book and many of my friends love the series.

Erotic Romance
Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James - This is definitely not the best of the series in my opinion, but you've got to stop somewhere, true? I love the series, though.

Wicked Ties by Shayla Black - I hear this is a great series, and I liked the third one when I read it. Plus, you have it on your TBR shelf :)

Buddy Read
Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah MacLean - You have both this one and the first book on your TBR shelf. I haven't read this one yet, so if you decide to read it, I would definitely read it with you.

Pack Challenge by Shelley Laurenston - I have heard that this is a great book and a great series. I have yet to read it, so I would definitely start it if you decide to read this :)

Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers, #4) by Lisa Kleypas The Captain of All Pleasures (Sutherland Brothers, #1) by Kresley Cole Under Her Skin (Lone Star Sisters, #1) by Susan Mallery A Lot Like Love by Julie James Succubus on Top (Georgina Kincaid, #2) by Richelle Mead Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger Kiss of the Night (Dark-Hunter, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon The Vampire's Bride (Atlantis, #4) by Gena Showalter Blaze of Memory (Psy-Changeling, #7) by Nalini Singh Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, #1) by Gena Showalter Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Rapture in Death (In Death, #4) by J.D. Robb Phantom in the Night (B.A.D. Series, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers, #1) by Shayla Black Ten Ways to Be Adored When Landing a Lord (Love By Numbers, #2) by Sarah MacLean Pack Challenge (Magnus Pack, #1) by Shelly Laurenston

Here are your reqs! If you can't find anything you like please let me know and I'll try again!

Historical: I noticed you read Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and loved it so I encourage you to continue with the series and read Dragonfly in Amberby Diana Gabladon. If that is not something you'd like how about continuing KMM's Highlander series with To Tame a Highland Warrior.

Contemporary: I suggest Garden Spellsby Sarah Addison Allen. It is a great read and very cute! I've made multiple recommendations with this book and anyone I've spoken to about it has loved it!

Urban Fantasy: I looked for this book on your TBR but I couldn't find it although you had the rest of the series. Darkfever by KMM. It's the first book in her Fever series and it's not the best book in the series but I enjoyed it. If you've already read it how about Moon Calledby Patricia Briggs.

Paranormal Romance (Vampires): Halfway to the Graveby Jeaniene Frost. If you love Vampires you'll love Bones!!

Paranormal Romance (Non-vampire): City of Bonesby Cassandra Clare. This is the first book in her The Mortal Instruments series I devoured these books in a few days. You can also look at her Infernal Devices series starting with Clockwork Angel it is a prequel to her TMI series.

Science Fiction/Futuristic: You should try Awaken Me Darklyby Gena Showalter, it's the only book I've read that has aliens in it and I actually liked it.

Romantic Suspense: I've never read a Romantic Suspense book so I looked at your TBR and picked the one with the highest average rating which is Riding the Night.

Erotic Romance: Again, I'm not familiar with this sub-genre but I went through your TBR and found one that I've heard others talk about. Nicholas: The Lords of Satyrby Elizabeth Amber.

Buddy Read:
I know I recommended this as a Historical but if you chose to read it I'll read it with you Dragonfly in Amberby Diana Gabaldon.

Darkfeverby KMM

Catching Fireby Suzanne Collins (I know it's not a Romance but I feel like there were some romantic elements in the first book and would love to know what happens in the second book).

Enjoy!!

Thanks Dee, just got back from my son's basketball game and saw Penney's question. I have 117 ebooks that are lendable on my shelf and at least another 100 freebies that are lendable that I don't want on my shelves so I haven't listed them. It's great, and you can use it on your kindle app for iphone, ipad, etc. if you don't have a kindle.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hey Jess :)

I really enjoyed trawling your shelves to try to pinpoint your likes and dislikes. Here are my picks for you - I've generally selected two books because I can't decide which is better, and to allow you greater choice. Hope you find something worthwhile.

Historical
The Masqueraders by Georgette Heyer. A great adventurous romp in Regency England. One of my all time favourites.

Seduction by Amanda Quick. Jayne Ann Krentz's historical pseudonym - I really enjoy all her historical and paranormal stories.

Contemporary I'm sorry but this is a category that I hardly ever read. So I've put down the only two books in my 4 or 5 star ratings that I think can be classified as contemporary romance.
High Energy by Dara Joy - simple light-hearted fun

Wildest Hearts by Jayne Ann Krentz - one of JAK's better stand alone books

Urban Fantasy
Darkfever (Fever) by Karen Marie Moning. The more I thought about this book after I had finished reading it, the more I realised how much I had enjoyed it.

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter) by Nalini Singh. I just loved this book. No more to say.

PNR (Vampire)
Dark Prince (Carpathians) by Christine Feehan. My absolute favourite series of all time. We're now waiting for book 22 and whilst book 1 (Dark Prince) was my lowest rated book (3 stars), you really should start at the beginning. My favourite was probably... Oh, I can't pick just one: each time I try, another 5 pop into my head.

PNR (Other)
Slave to Sensation (Psy) by Nalini Singh. My first Singh book - I was blown away by the story and the fabulous world she created. She is one of my 'must buy' authors.

Sci-fi/Futuristic
After Dark (Harmony) by Jayne Castle (another Jayne Ann Krentz pseudonym). Love the world Castle created - and IMO the books only get better...

Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair. This is very definitely Sci-fi - but the characters are really well drawn and the plot has lots of action. The romance is almost secondary to the story - however the romance is just beautiful.

Romantic Suspense
Shadow Game (Ghostwalkers) by Christine Feehan. This is a great suspense series with a psychic/paranormal twist.

Second Sight/White Lies by Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz. Another psychic suspense series that I love.

Erotic
Roane (Circe's Recruits) by Marie Harte. This is an erotic suspense paranormal series of 4 shorter books which I love. I've read the series twice.

Total Recall (Cyberevolution) by Keitlyn O'Connor. This is pretty funny with multiple males and one female - in fact, it is laugh out loud IMO. Even though this is #6, it tells the very beginning of the chain of events.

They Both Belong to Me by L.A. Day. This is only 80 pages, but I really like it. I've read it multiple times.

Buddy Read
Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress) by Jeanene Frost. This is on both our TBR lists and everyone raves about it :)

Vi | 2794 comments Ah, a question/suggestion. I know this might not be the right place/time to ask but here goes

Right now, I see a lot of people have recommended/buddy read Halfway to the Grave. I was planning to read it this month (hopefully). So I was wondering if anyone interested could do a buddy read together? Any thoughts?

message 241: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments ~Megan~, sorry for the late posting, I finally got home and got some recommendations for you. You have actually read a lot of them that I was planning on giving out, but with a few minor changes I did come up with some.

Historical : I normally recommend Lisa Kleypas for this one, but you have read all of them that I have and more. So I am going with Kat Martin. I see you have a few but not this trilogy. Royal's Bride is the first of series.

Contemporary: Sarah Addison Allen has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I see you have The Peach Keeper in your tbr and considering that you liked the other 3 you read, I highly recommend that you read this one too.

Urban Fantasy: This category took some thought, you have read all of them that I would recommend to most people. I am going to go with something a little out of the ordinary, it is not one of my faves (you have read all of them also), but it is interesting, strange and a bit unusual. Any Given Doomsday is the first book and in my opinion the later books are better, but of course it is not the type that you want to read out of order.

Paranormal Romance : (Vampire) Again, you have read all of them that I would normally recommend, so here is a brand new series that you might find interesting, we seem to have similar taste in the paranormal stuff and I enjoyed this one. Eternal Hunger is the first, and the second should be out now.

Paranormal Romance (Non-Vampire) : The Lords of the Underworld is a very popular series, The Darkest Night is the first of them and while I think it is one of the best, other like later books better. Either way, I think that you might like this series.

Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance : The Host is a surprise, it is nothing like the Twilight books. It maybe long, but it reads so fast and you get so caught up in the story that you can't put it down (I did anyways).

Romantic Suspense: Again, have to go outside of the norm to get a recommendation for you in this. You didn't seem to like the series that I would have recommended and you have already read several of the others, soooo - Thicker Than Water is what I am going with. I did like all the elements that went into this trilogy.

Erotic Romance: For an erotic book, Long Hard Ride has a pretty good set of characters and while not the best of the story lines it is pretty good too.

Young Adult: Ok, so I added a category. I just wanted an excuse to recommend Graceling to you. You have it on your tbr and I suggest that you read it.

Buddy Read: With the movie version of Water for Elephants coming out soon, I was thinking about reading it and I saw it on your tbr also. If you are willing to read it in May, I would be willing to give it a go also.

Royal's Bride (Bride's Trilogy, #1) by Kat Martin The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen Any Given Doomsday (Phoenix Chronicles, #1) by Lori Handeland Eternal Hunger (Mark of the Vampire #1) by Laura Wright The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer Thicker Than Water (Mordecai Young, #1) by Maggie Shayne Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms Trilogy, #1) by Kristin Cashore Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

I know that I only gave one recommendation for each category so I hope you can find something there that you like. If not please let me know and I will dive back in.

Autumn (sweetdenial) | 1471 comments Hello Becky !! It was really nice having to pick for one of my friends. Not to mention how many books we have in common!! i love your book collection! :)

ok,so here goes my picks! really hope you find something good to read this month.

Historical : It was very difficult to narrow down to a few books when this is one of my favorite genres.

-Suddenly You. We are LK fans, and this book is one of my favorite in her historical repertoire. Its one of her steamiest ones!!is a stand alone book, so its good if you dont want to start a new series.

-The Raven Prince from the "Princess trilogy". I have not read EH yet, but we both have them in our TBR. Its has been a recommended series from among many of our friends.

-Unveiled: I also have read great reveiews about this book. (you have all of her books in your TBR) It would be a nice book to start her works.

Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas The Raven Prince (Princes Trilogy, #1) by Elizabeth Hoyt Unveiled (Turner, #1) by Courtney Milan

Contemporary: most of your contemporaries tend to lean more towards chick-lit, see if you like this.

-Can You Keep a Secret?. Its no secret that i dont read much of this genre, but i have to say that i really liked this book. i laughed so much.. i still pick it up from time to time.

-Bet Me. May is chick-lit month, and this is one of the favorite books among the readers. its well balanced.

-Something About You. Ok so, you liked "the sexiest man alive".. I say, you would love this one. Its my favorite of her books.

Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Something About You by Julie James

Urban Fantasy: Its clear that this realm is your forte! your TBR has a lot of PNR to choose from (from which i am soo grateful, because its one of my weakest genres.)

-Magic Study: I have the first installment in my TBR, and you rated 5*. I should bump it up a bit. :). The second in the series has very good reviews as well.

-Darkfever. well, this one is also beloved among this genre! and to be quite honest the premise its really, really interesting!

-City of Bones: its still on your "to-ponder shelf" but i think this book has potential, so i just think you might like it.

Magic Study (Study, #2) by Maria V. Snyder Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

PNR (Vamps): you are well stocked with vamps! ;), so what i did was to see the series you liked best and took it from there.

- Shadow Kiss (Vampire Academy, #3) by Richelle Mead

- Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #9) by J.R. Ward

- Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark, #11) by Kresley Cole

PNR (non Vamps) : i havent ventured this waters, but i have read great reviews about this two.

-The Darkest Kiss this series are quite succesful. You gave very good ratings to the first book in this series!

-Pack Challenge: I have actually read some chapters of this one and i really liked it.

The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, #2) by Gena Showalter Pack Challenge (Magnus Pack, #1) by Shelly Laurenston

Sci-fi/ Futuristic

-Born of Night I also liked this book a lot.

-The Iron Duke You seem to favor steam-punk and this book its one of the favorites of this genre.

-Clockwork Angel: This book was recommended to me because it has a great combination of sci-fi, magic, and historical settings.. im really looking forward to read this book. so i pass on the rec ^_^

Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

Romantic Suspense: This genre im getting acquainted with! .this particular genre i find it a risky one to get it right, because for a good book to work it has to have a good gripping suspense/thrill factor and it does a solid romance. The books that i think fit the bill would be..

-Cry No More. Linda Howard is truly amazing at angsty twisting plots.. this one is one of her best books.

-The Darkest Hour: from the (KGI) series. In one word... "hot"

Cry No More by Linda Howard The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) by Maya Banks

Erotic romance :

-Long Hard Ride this is the not the best book in the series, but the series are worth reading. so it will make sense to start with #1. Its not in your TBR, so i thought i could throw in a new one.

-Dirty: ok, so this one is one of my favorite books. the plot is dark, steamy , deep and complex. I love the way Megan Hart writes her way straight to the readers heart.

- Wicked Ties: you have already read this author and rated her really well. This book does not disappoint. Its truly wicked. ;)

Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James Dirty by Megan Hart Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers, #1) by Shayla Black

Buddy read :

- My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway I simply love Connie B. I will be reading this book this month, i will be more than happy to buddy read. :)

Its been a pleasure to pick for you Becky, i hope you liked my selections. xoxoxoxoxo

Autumn.

Brenda (bmass) Britta-

You didn’t have a lot of romance books on your lists so I chose a few that are good representations of the categories’, at least in my opinion. I hope you find at least one or two to add to your To Read List.

Historical- This is a genre I am really not familiar with so I did the best I could.
Outlander by Diana Galabon
The Queen's Daughter by Susan Coventry

Contemporary-
Anything You Wantt by Erin Nicholas- I love everything Erin Nicholas has written but this was one of my favorites. Romance, arguing, a food fight and a love triangle

Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning- WOW, I read this book a few weeks ago because I got it for free on my Kindle and I was so surprised. I fell in love with the main characters and since it is a series I can’t wait to see where all of the band members the book is centered around go.

Urban Fantasy-
Moon Called By Patricia Briggs

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)

My Blood Approves By Amanda Hocking- This is just a really fantastic book. The beginning of a series. I have recommended it too all of my friends and everyone I know ends up addicted.

Paranormal Romance (Non Vampire)-
Dead Girls Are Easy – Terri Garey- One of my first non Vampire books. The main character can see spirits after dying herself and being brought back to life by a hunky doctor.
Switched By Amanda Hocking- Another Amanda Hocking book. I love her style of writing. This one is different than the other I recommended since it doesn’t have Vampires.

Sci-Fi/ Futuristic- Another genre I have no idea about so I recommended some of the more popular selections.
Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh
The Host by Stephanie Myers

Romantic suspense-
Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich- I enjoy Janet Evanovich’s books and Metro Girl didn’t disappoint. Great mystery

Erotic Romance-
The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton- This one is about an American Football Player. The cover alone is reason enough to just look into reading the book. The guy on the cover is mouthwatering!
Slow Hands (The Wrong Bed: Again and Again, #1) by Leslie Kelly- This was the first erotic book I read. The twist in the story really adds to the seduction and romance of it. Plus it's Free for Kindle

Buddy Read-
Stray by Rachel Vincent- This is on both of our TBR lists so if you would like to buddy read it let me know.

Brenda (bmass) Betelgeuze: Thank you so much for the recommendations!

I saved quite a few but I think I am going to read Naked In Death by JD Robb. It sounds so good!
Since it was on my TBR list I am going to go with Undead and Unwed as well.

If you want to do a buddy read let me know all three of those are on my TBR list and I enjoyed the buddy read I did last month.

message 250: by Monica (new)

Monica Maybe (monicamaybe) | 45 comments Hey MountainKat! Sorry it's taken me so long, and thanks for waiting, patiently or otherwise. *grins* This was kind of hard, because we have a godly amount of books in common. SO I'm going to try and give you books you haven't read yet, but if not, I hope you enjoy re-reads, or just PM me and I'll redo your list.

Historical

So I saw that you have some Julie Garwood, but more of her contemporary work. Also saw that you liked Honor's Splendour, which I really like. BUt my favorite, by far, has to be The Secret. It's also the first in the Highland Lairds series. (I want to recommend ALL of her books to you, but I'm restraining myself).

Since I'm so biased when it comes to the lovely Julie Garwood, I want to recommend Julia Quinn's the Bridgerton series. My favorite book is The Viscount Who Loved Me, but the first book in the series is The Duke And I.

Another Historical favorite for me is basically anything from Philippa Gregory. The first book I read by her (after having seen the movie The other Boleyn girl, which is based on her book) was The Boleyn Inheritance. A little word of warning, it's kind of hard to get into, it's told from three different POV's and it's alters strangely in between sounding like a diary entry and like a normal novel. But stick with it, it was amazing. Another book by her I couldn't put down was The Red Queen and Wideacre. They're both first in a series. Maybe innie-minnie-mo to see which you pick, or PM if you're confused. They're all amazing and I hope you get into reading these types of historicals.

Contemporary

I was so upset to see I couldn't give you Janet Evanovich, darn it! But since the rules said what I would recommend to someone new (I mean, sheesh, it's not my fault you've already found her...) *grins* sos that was my subtle way of recommending something. By Jennifer Crusie my favorites are Bet Me and Crazy For You. And Agnes and the Hitman has a lot going for it!

A series I couldn't put down is the Last Stand series by Brenda Novak. The first book is Trust Me. My favorite is Stop Me.

I adored Blue Smoke and Murder by Elizabeth Lowell. The first book in the series is Always Time to Die. I noticed you had a lot by her, but none of the books in this series...

Deadly Gamble by Linda Lael Miller was another amazing book I couldn't put down, and I re-read the series right after finishing it for the first time. The second book is Deadly Deceptions (Mojo, #2). Sadly, it's only a two book series.

Urban Fantasy

I absolutely love and CANNOT put down the Rachel Morgan series by Kim Harrison. The first book is Dead Witch Walking.

Kitty and the Midnight Hour is the first book in the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn and I just couldn't put it down!

Succubus Blues is an amazing new take on succubus' and demons in general. I really liked it. That's the first book in the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead.

A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton is an amazing series, based on the Sidhe and fey and Faery. That's the fist book in the 8 book and counting series based on Meredith Gentry.

Paranormal Romance Vampire

Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is the first book in the Night Huntress series which follows half-vampire Cat. It was an awesome book! And an even better series.

I think the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton deals enough with vampires (and spoiler stuff) to qualify a spot here. Her first book is Guilty Pleasures.

I noticed you didn't have any YA in your list, I'm not sure if it's preference or you just haven't found something, but the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz is very good, and amazingly written. The first book is Blue Bloods. Another is Rachel Caine's series, the Morganville Vampires, which starts with Glass Houses.

Paranormal Romance Something Other than Vampires

Stray by Rachel Vincent was an AMAZING series. I'm still upset it's over. The supernatural/were thing isn't overdone or trite and the writing, emotions and story line were awesome.

Another series that's really well written is the Cassandra Palmer series. The first book is Touch the Dark by Karen Chance. Cassie is clairvoyant, there are ghosts, vamps, monsters, fairies and just SO much more. Oh, witches and mages too. =]

The Devil Inside by Jenna Black is a devil type of read, although the heroine is an exorcist. It's really different but at the same time sort of familiar. You really fall in love with Morgan, the heroine and it's just a rough, enjoyable and unbelievable ride after the first few pages.

Sci - Fi / Futuristic Romance

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins was an amazing book in so many ways I don't know how to start. Yes, it's YA, but completely not what you expect and totally worth the read.

I noticed you have Outlander by Diana Gabaldon in your shelf, but haven't read it yet. It's a long, long book, but so worth it in the end. I know I've said it before, but if any book deserves what I'm about to say, it's this one; this book is amazingly written. It's a classic and so seamless and the romance is breathtaking and all the details clear and real.

The Master's of Time series by Brenda Joyce starts with Dark Seduction. It's a historical/contemporary/time travel book, and I enjoyed it.

I also noticed you have The Host by Stephenie Meyer shelved, and I've heard quite a lot of good things about that...

Romantic Suspense

Killjoy #3 by Julie Garwood is my favorite romantic suspense by her. The first book in the series is Heartbreaker which was also very good, and I noticed you haven't read either.

The Bullet Catcher series is really good. I read two of the books years ago, but for the life of me I can't remember which. It was good on the suspense though. The first book in the series is Kill Me Twice.

Guilty by Karen Robards was also an amazing book suspense wise.

Oh, and the Elizabeth Lowell rec I gave you, Blue Smoke and Murder can double here, too.

Erotic Romance

I don't read much of this, so bear with me.

Dirty by Megan Hart is a rec I received that I've heard a lot about.

Addicted by Zane I read and loved.

Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione another rec I received that I can't stop hearing good things about.

Buddy Read

Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart by Sarah MacLean

This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Crave by J.R. Ward.

I'm sorry it took me so long, but I think I'm just a slow poke, cuz I've been at this for almost three hours. I hope you like them, sorry for the overload, and let me know if everything works! I hope you enjoy.
