Good choice. The In Death series is really good. The Undead series is also a lot of fun.

Buddy read sounds fun. I haven't done one before. Let me know which book you would like to read.

Coffeentea | 128 comments Hi D.G.
Here are my picks for you. I hope you find something you enjoy.

Historical
Seduce Me by Robyn DeHart is a historical romance with an adventure chasing after the lengedary Pandora's box.
The Naked Viscount by Sally MacKenzie is a light and fun read with a determined heroine.

Contemporary
A Lot Like Love by Julie James - I see that you read this author's other two contemporary romance books. This new one is just as good.
Someone Like You by Susan Mallery - I really liked this story because the author did not use the misunderstanding/miscommunication plot device. The heroine and hero were mature and intelligent and the story seems realistic.

Urban Fantasy
Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill - I know you said in your profile not to recommend any vampire romance unless it's exceptional. Believe me this one is exceptional. The heroine was made a vampire without her consent. I find her struggle to fit into the supernatural world very realistic. Her growning pains were very relatable.
At Grave's End by Jeaniene Frost - I see you been reading the first two books in this series. It's one of my favorite series. I can not believe what happened to Bones in this one.

Paranormal Romance (Vampire)
I like the Dark Hunters series up until book 13, Acheron's book. The series starts with Night Pleasures. But my favorite book in this series is Seize the Night: The Dark-Hunter World: Book 7, where the heroine in this story is the sister of the heroine in Night Pleasures.

Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires)
My favorite series of all time is Immortals After Dark, which starts with A Hunger Like No Other. But my favorite book of this series is Dark Desires After Dusk - there's something very appealing about a tough mercenary being so gentle and tender to his woman.

Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance
Silver Master by Jayne Castle is the 4th book in the Ghost Hunter series, but you don’t have to read the first 3 books before you read this one. The previous couple from book 2 makes an appearance in here.

Romantic Suspense
Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard – This book was hilarious. This is one of my all time favorite book that I never hesitate to recommend. You can feel the sexual tension between the two main characters right from the start.

Erotic Romance
Sin by Sharon Page – I see you read another book by this author. Try this one, not only did it have steamy scenes, it also had emotions and a little bit of a suspense.
Kiernan the Black by Julia Templeton – I see you didn’t like the book you read from this author. But give this author another try with this book. This is a time travel story, where the heroine was transported back to the 11th century.

Buddy Read
If you want to read these two, I’ll read it with you.
A Knight in Shining Armor (Montgomery #16)
Truly, Madly

Thx for the recs! I'll probably go with The Iron Duke (if I can get it here on time!), Covet (because it's been staring at me from my shelves for months!) or The Unsung Hero.. If I read the last, I'll let you know: I've heard so much good stuff about SB!
And thanks for facing my monstrous TBR!! The books you listed that I've already read I loved (well, except for Agnes, which was ok: Have you read JC's other books? Bet Me was amazing!)

Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Urban Fantasy
I really enjoy this author.
Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton (Eternal Guardians #1)

Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward (BDB #2)

PNR
These are both fun reads.
Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mystery, #1) by Victoria Laurie (Psychic Eye #1)

Trial by Fire (Firefighters of Station Five, #1) by Jo Davis (Firefighter of Station Five #1)
The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston (Pride #1)

Hi Coffentea!

Thanks for the recs!

Most likely I'll get to A Lot Like Love because I have it handy (I got it in the mail yesterday...talk about timing!) From the rest, I may try Mr. Perfect or A Hunger Like No Other although I was already planning to read a Linda Howard this month - a few days ago I downloaded the audiobook for Cry No More.

I may try some of your vampire recs later in the year. I'm already planning to read BDB #4 in May and I find I cannot read different vampire series too close together. I get confused! :p

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Melanie

Sorry about the mix-up, I'm not used to having another Melanie around!!:-D

Here are your recs: if you can't find something, let me know and I'll get you smt else! Yes, a lot of these books are the ones I (mistakenly, it seems) rec'd for Melinda, but that's because they're my faves:-D

Historical Romance
Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas. I saw that you read and enjoyed most of the Hathaways, but I would start with the first of the Wallflowers books (my faves were #2 and #3)
The Prize by Julie Garwood. You liked Gentle Warrior, so you definitely have to read another JG.. She's such a great author! I'd go with this one or The Bride
Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase. You've read the last in the Carsington series.. I'd go to the second, which is one of the funniest books ever!
Comanche Moon by Catherine Anderson - If you're looking for an epic love story between two characters who were born enemies, this is for you: a truly beautiful and well-written romance!

Contemporary Romance
Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. A beautiful and light love story that'll leave you feeling warm and fuzzy!
Trial by Fire by Jo Davis. One of my faves, it has a bit of suspense thrown in, the sex isn't exactly vanilla, and the hero is a hot and tortured hunka love in uniform.. what's not to like?:-p

Urban Fantasy
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh is first in the Guild Hunter series, and Elena and Raphael are amazing! I'm not a major fan of UF, but this series is fabulous! Elena is strong and kick-ass, and Raphael is the cruel alpha with a "soft" spot only for Elena!
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. First in the Kate Daniels series, which is also great fun.. The books just get better and better!

PNR Vampires
Dark Lover by JR Ward.. I can't believe you haven't read the Black Dagger Brotherhood yet!! Definitely a series worth reading (in order)!! And wait till you get to the third book! I don't think there's one person I know who didn't adore Z!
Halfway to the Grave by Jeanine Frost. The Night Huntress series follows Kat, a half-vampire vampire hunter, and her lover Bones... **sigh** Great and gripping series.
Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon. First in the Dark-Hunters, SK writes of a brotherhood of cursed (by Artemis) warriors. You'll find vampires, shapeshifters, witches, Greek gods and mythological creatures in this great series.

PNR non-vamp
Lord of the Fading Lands by CL Wilson (Tairen Soul book 1). My favorite series ever! the whole 5-book series is out, so you won't have to wait.. You have a majorly tortured millenia-old Fae King hero, and a seemingly ordinary girl. You have dark forces in the North, treachery at the court, and a soulmate love that'll blow your socks off! I adored this series and can't recommend it enough!
The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter (Lords of the Underworld #1) or Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione: Both are series featuring demons as the MCs, but what demons they are!!!

Sci-Fi/Futuristic
Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I don't read much futuristic romance, but the League series is worth reading and rereading! I hope you'll enjoy it! Nykyrian is an awesome hero!

Romantic Suspense
Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare (I-Team book 1) - Kara and Reece are amazing together, and I was kept on my toes till the end.
Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard mixes humor with a great RS read! I adored the hero!
Die For Me (book #7) by Karen Rose (you can read most her books as stand-alones, except for this trilogy which starts with Die For Me).. If you want more suspense than romance (although it's there), great main characters and a truly evil villain, this is the book for you!

Erotic Romance
Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers #1) by Shayla Black or Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James (Rough Riders #1) are both hawt books featuring ménage, anal sex and bondage.. So you have to be comfortable with that.. The romance in both is really good though:-)
Passion by Lisa Valdez, on the other hand, has straight sex only, but, surprisingly, for an erotic HR, the love story was amazing and had me tearing up... talk about angst!!!

Buddy Read
Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart by Sarah MacLean. I loved the two first books in the series, and heard that the third was great!

There you go! And I hope you'll find something to enjoy! BTW, love the name;-p

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas The Prize by Julie Garwood Mr. Impossible (Carsington Brothers, #2) by Loretta Chase Comanche Moon (Comanche, #1) by Catherine Anderson Simply Irresistible (Lucky Harbor, #1) by Jill Shalvis Trial by Fire (Firefighters of Station Five, #1) by Jo Davis Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione Born of Night (The League, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard Die For Me (book #7) (Daniel Vartanian, #1) by Karen Rose Wicked Ties (Wicked Lovers, #1) by Shayla Black Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James Passion by Lisa Valdez Eleven Scandals to Start to Win a Duke's Heart (Love By Numbers, #3) by Sarah MacLean

Thank you Sue! This list is awesome!!

My TBR shelf is horrible, I'm constantly adding books to that thing! The Jane Eyre pick was great, because I just got a really nice leatherbound copy last weekend and was wanting to start it soon! The BDB books by Ward are on my TBR shelf too so I'm going to read those as well! I think I've read a Jennifer Cruise book a long time ago and enjoyed it so I'm excited to get back to her and catch up on the good ones! I've created a shelf just for my May PIFM books and hopefully I'll be able to read all of them this month!

For me it depends on how much I read the genre. :) For instance, I wasn't THAT impressed with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo or Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake but then I read a lot of mystery and historical romance and they didn't seem anything new. In the case of genres I read less, then I seem to enjoy those hyped books more.

message 273: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments for me, it might have been that GTWDT was the first nordic noir I had really read and there is a huge difference between it and the mysteries you buy in the US (at least in my opinion)...however, since then, i have read several other authors who write in that genre (Karin Fossum, Henning Mankell) who are significantly better writers...but I never would have found their books if I hadn't read GWTDT first

Hi Layla! Is my first time participating in an event like this, hope I understood the rules right and more or less have chosen correctly.

Most of the books I chose (I tried to look to your to-read list, chosen one I think) are new to me also.As you can see, I haven't got a long book-shelf,though I'm making progress, so had to search from scratch, plus that I didn't even know the romance genres too well. (very happy that I have learnt something new by being here)

Here are my picks for you:

1.Historical :
The Romance of the Forest by Ann Radcliffe
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

2.Contemporary Romance:
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
From the Heartby Nora Roberts
The Lovely Bonesby Alice Sebold

3.Urban Fantasy:
City of Bonesby Cassandra Clare
Storm Front by Jim Butcher

4.Paranormal Romance (Vampire):

Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter

5.Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires):

Entwined by Heather Dixon

6.Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance : The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

7.Romantic Suspense :
Wolf River by Jill Gregory
Dead Shot by Annie Solomon

8.Erotic Romance : Fairyville by Emma Holly

9.Buddy Read : Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison

I hope you like the list and I wish you the best. Feel free to announce me if something is not right or of your progress. I'm on at least once a day to check messages, and usually on week-ends I'm able to answer or talk more on a related subject. ( though this month will be a bit more busier then usual with exams and projects for faculty)

message 279: by AlbertaJenn (new)

AlbertaJenn | 0 comments Alexis, here is the list of some of my favourite reads from the proposed catagories. It was hard to just choose one!

Historical - Suddenly by Candace Camp. Camp is always a winner, no matter what book.
Contemporary - Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas. A very sweet and somewhat sad story.
Urban Fantasy - Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. Mercy is my favourite female character, period.
Paranormal Romance (Vampire) - Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper. A hilarious story about a mild-mannered librarian who is changed into a vampire not by choice.
Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires) - Desire Untamed by Pamela Palmer. Warrior animal shifters who must save the world.
Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance - Born of Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I love Kenyon. One if my absolute favourite authors.
Romantic Suspense - Danger in a Red Dress by Christina Dodd. I actually don't read a lot of Romantic suspense, but I read this one last year and really enjoyed it.
Erotic Romance - Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning. A great book for any girl who has ever had a crush on a rock star. Very hot!
Buddy Read - The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks. We don't seem to have any similar to reads (we seem to be a different parts of series), so I recommended a book that was recommended to me by author Jaci Burton.

message 284: by Freya (last edited Apr 29, 2011 09:15AM) (new)

Freya (freya3377) Hi Gail

I'm new to a lot of these genres, so sorry if I get anything wrong. My highlight though was when I compared books with you, our tastes are 77% similar. I've tried to add books from your TBR too. Lets hope you like my recommends and find something here to read :)

Historical - I'm recommending two here and I haven't read these but I have read another Julia Quinn and enjoyed it and I have heard only good things about The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas so I'm recommending that series.
1. The Duke And I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn
2. Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

Contemporary - This is a book that was recommended to me last month so its got to be good (I think) :)
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

Urban Fantasy -
I absolutely enjoyed the The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins and I'm just about to start on the second, so this is my recommendation in this category...

Paranormal Romance (Vampire) -
This one was on your TBR too... Sex, Lies and Vampires (Dark Ones #3)by Katie MacAlister

Paranormal Romance (Something other than Vampires) -
Another 2 from your TBR... Swimming Without a Net (Fred the Mermaid #2) by MaryJanice Davidson and Dead and Loving It(Wyndham Werewolf) by MaryJanice Davidson

Sci-Fi / Futuristic Romance -
I saw you have read some books in The League series so I'm recommending book #4
Born of Shadows (The League, #4) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Romantic Suspense -
I found Hard to Hold (Hold trilogy #1) by Stephanie Tyler on your TBR so I'm going to add it here...

Erotic Romance -
I haven't read any in this genre so I'm going with the GoodReads list of most popular books. The Nauti series seems popular and has been rated high
Nauti Boy (Nauti #1) by Lora Leigh

Buddy Read - I'm reading this too, so I'm repeating it here.
Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

Wow... This was the toughest selection I had to do till date. I hope you like some of them :)

Hi Laurentiu! Thank you for your picks, you did very good considering this is your first time participating in this challenge :)
I'm thinking about reading The Hunger Games , although I don't usually go for the YA genre. It must be the apocalyptic setting *laugh*
Perhaps,I'll read Dragon Bound too, since it's already in my TBR ,I'll let you know .

Polina (p0lit0o) | 71 comments Hi, Pollyanna! I'm really glad I got to pick books for you this month. I hope you find something that you'll like. Enjoy! :)

Historical
I am not a fan of this genre as I've only read two historicals and I didn't enjoy them very much. I see you are not much into it too, so I want disappoint you too much. I recommend Untouched because I myself want to read it some day although it's a historical. The story sounds intriguing to me. Another one I've heard good things about is Sinful.

Contemporary
Here I feel more at home. My all time favorite would be Kiss an Angel. Some of my new favorites deserve mentioning as well - Just the Sexiest Man Alive and My One and Only.

Urban Fantasy
I don't really understand the the difference between UF and PN so forgive me if I am guessing wrong. I see you've read the first book in Georgina Kincaid series and enjoyed it. I say continue with Succubus on Top. Another one is Angels' Blood by my new favorite author Nalini Singh. I intend to read this book soon so if you wanna do a buudy read, just say so.

Paranormal Romance Vampires
Now I am at home. I would absolutely recommend The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The first one, Dark Lover, is a little slow but they get better and better. My favorite is the eighth. Another really good series is Immortals After Dark, there are many other creatures here not only vampires. It starts with The Warlord Wants Forever, again it's a little slow.

Paranormal Romance Not Vampires
This would be Unearthly - a great new YA paranormal romance about angels. It's really good and refreshing after the crappy books that had been filling the book stores lately.

Futuristic
This is easy. Slave to Sensation is the first book in the Psy-Changeling series and they are all great. This one was recommended to me here last month and I can't thank the person who did it enough. Try it, you won't regret it.

Romantic Suspense
I don't read much in this genre but I enjoyed Something About You, though it's not too high on the suspense part.

Erotica
I am no expert but the hottest love scene I've read was in Be With Me although the general story was not that good. I've really enjoyed Switch and Stranger as well.

Buddy Read
As i said, I intend to read Angels' Blood this month and i also have my eye on I Am the Messenger. Let me know if you decide to do a buddy read.

Hope you liked your picks. Have fun!

Noticed you like Nora Roberts a lot,I may try to read a book of hers any suggestions?

When you start Dragon Bound, tell me I'll join you. Noticed you added it as Buddy read for your reader so thought I may join. I guess I'll have to pre-order it, not being able to lend it from anywhere.

Happy reading!

That sucks, Shellbelle!

What I usually do is save as I go...meaning that I post the first recs and then save, post the second set and then save, etc. It's a bit neurotic but at least that decreases the chances of losing everything and I tend to write novels in my recos.

I usually do to! I don't know why I didn't do that this time:( I did save the recs in a word doc. so I just need to copy past and re-ad books....I love/hate technology!
