Just finished Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #3) by Chloe Neil (★★★★★). This book is urban fantasy featuring primarily vampires, but also shifters & magic-users. The series continues to be one of my very favorite on the market right now! I love Merit, the protagonist, and her relationship (such as it is) with master-vamp, Ethan. Her personality and friendships with the other characters are truly the highlight of the book, but the plot is always fun, too. I can't wait to get my hands on the currently not-yet-titled next book in the series when it comes out in July 2011!

Just finished Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. This one isn't paranormal romance/urban fantasy at all, but rather historical fiction with a romance. It was this month's read for my neighborhood bookclub, otherwise I might never have even picked it up, and man, am I glad I did!
The story takes place in Seattle's International District (and I lived downtown Seattle for awhile and now live in the suburbs). You follow a series of events in Henry's life in 1942-45 when he's 12-15 and in 1986 when he's in his 50's. The story skips back and forth between these two time periods revealing a story about the harshness of war, the beauty of love, the heartbreak of different types of loss, and the ups and downs of family-life. It was a surprisingly beautiful story that I'd recommend to anyone who likes a bit of historical accuracy with their romance - especially if they know the Seattle area or have family of Chinese or Japanese origin living on the west coast during WWII.
