I enjoyed picking out as many books from my birth year of 1950 as would fit the types of books. Had some success.
Gotta ? for those that have read Sydney Croft's ACRO series (post #32). Does "Riding the Storm"'s location qualify for rural? "Louisiana Bayous" is stated in GR summary. I've been to LA and parts are definitely rural. Thanks in advance! :)

two authors who were writing stuff I think folks from these threads would enjoy that was a prototype (IMO) for todays urban fantasy and paranormal romance are Andre Norton and Marion Zimmer Bradley. They both wrote fantasy, sci fi and urban fantasy (although it was not called that then.) They are/were prolific writers and had books released or rereleased at many different times. Norton had a time traveling series (great stuff) and MZB was a romance writer before she (or secretly while) was a sci fi/fantasywriter.
ALRIGHT. I found 2 books that I love on the list for books that were popular the year I was born. :o)
The Mouse that Roared: A Novel and Sargasso of Space. As it happens, I've read both (and several times EACH) but hey, its always good to visit an old friend, yes?
However, that reminds me that i want to check my library to see if they have any of the rest of the books so I can check them out. :o)

You could try for the time travel:
I have read, "Charming the Highlander" and "Beyond the Highland Mist", and can recommend those, I am reading "Gothic Dragon" at the moment and so far so good (although only on page 25!) As for Dark Seduction it is on my TBR pile but I haven't read it yet.
Hope that helps!
For Time Travel I can suggest The Last Viking by Sandra Hill. This is the first in a very long (I think its at like book 9 or 10 now) series, all dealing with various members of the family. Then they started adding in cousins, friends, etc. :o) They are funny, charming, moving and you will find yourself loving everyone in the series. (My personal fav. of the 3 Viking brothers that start the series is Magnus who was the hero in The Very Virile Viking.)
