Yz the Whyz wrote: Three books that have not a single paranormal element. Thanks Yz! I went over my tentative list and realized 8 out of 10 either fit "my" idea of PNR or had some paranormal element. I enjoyed looking paranormal romance up on Wikipedia too and Paranormal Romance (home of PEARL awards), and realized it actually encompasses more than I thought. Yeah!
Aw Yz--why the "year you were born" one? They didn't HAVE PNR the year I was born. They barely had SciFi books the year I was born. (and before those noses start twitching--it was 1955) How about the year my DAUGHTER was born? OR my grandkids? Ok, whining over with now. I'm in

Will you allow any exception to the year you were born category? There's nothing PNR from my year (1967) and I'd rather read from my massive TBR piles of PNR instead of having to find something that I really don't want to read just to complete the challenge.Could I read Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite? She was born the same year as me but the book was released in 1992. Pretty Please???

For the young at heart group here, which includes myself (1962) How about trying to find something from the Gothic Romances and if you like sci-fi Anne Mccaffery's books do have a good bit of romance in them.

I'm a 1972 and I found a bunch of sci-fi books from that year, it seems to be a popular theme from the late 60's early 70's. There wasn't much if any paranormal element books back then, and no PNR or UF. So if you want to stick to something with some sort of paranormal element, you'll have to read some sci-fi or straight fantasy. And if you have absolutely no interest in either of those genres, just use that category for a non-paranormal book--we do get 3 per challenge. :)
I am a straight fantasy fan & would try some sci-fi, but I found a non-paranormal 1972 book that will fit perfectly for another challenge, so I'm reading that one. :)

3. Read a book that is set in the future (futuristic).
