The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the ALSC, a division of the ALA, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Every year the Caldecott committee also cites other books as worthy of attention. These books are referred to as Caldecott Honor Books.

OK, I added at least on book for each year from 1938-55. Now I am tire of it. But there is a list of all the honor books here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldecot...
I cleaned up the list - removed a few Caldecott Medal winners that had been added and some Robert Stanek picture books that I guess someone thought were worthy of a Caldecott Honor.
This list needs to be edited - about 15 chapter books listed - Little House on the Prairie #56 on through Heidi #95, plus some other picturebooks that don't belong.
Removed for not being a Caldecott Honor book:The Cat in the Hat
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Little House on the Prairie
The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The Hobbit
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Green Eggs and Ham
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
Charlotte's Web
The Cricket in Times Square
The Boxcar Children
Old Yeller
The Incredible Journey
Where the Wild Things Are (Caldecott Medal winner)
The Complete Hans Christian Anderson
Peter Pan
Scaredy Squirrel Has a Birthday Party
You're Finally Here!
Where the Red Fern Grows
Heidi
Horton Hears a Who!
Oh Say Can You Say?
I Spy a Freight Train
Stuart Little
The Trumpet of the Swan
The Mouse and the Motorcycle
Walt Disney's Winnie-the-Pooh
Walt Disney's The Ugly Duckling
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Benji
Harold and the Purple Crayon
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Hansel and Gretel
Jack and the Beanstalk
The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales
Clifford the Big Red Dog
The Little Red Hen
The Emperor's New Clothes
Are You My Mother?
I've been working on adding the rest of the honor books, but I'm maxed out. Can't add more than 100 titles. I've added all honors since 1960, if someone else wants to work backward from there.
wow. with 118 voters and 235 books, I'd expect more books with votes. Only 58 books have more than 2 votes. Only 95 books have more than 1 vote.Has anyone out there read a large number of these? So far I've read and reviewed 14 of the top 100.
I don't think I've read more than ten (or don't remember doing so). But so many have come out since I was of the age to read them!
I've been collecting the award books since my kids were born (15 years ago) and have 41 of the top 100. I don't know any of the books from the last 5 years.
I last checked into to this list in january. The list is up 22 voters to 140 and up 3 books to 238. 77 books have at least 3 votes (up 13) and 123 books have at least 2 votes (up 28). And I've read and reviewed 56 of the top 100 (up 42) plus 5 more.I'm still finding it a pretty fun and varied list and easily find-able at the library.
Still working my way through this list, solidly on the second page now. It is beginning to be harder to find the books - I still haven't located Dash and Dart. And I am still being surprised by books on this list - different points of view, changes in what we think a good book is over time, subject matter.
I'd appreciate if others on this list would vote for books that have only one vote after verifying that they are really Caldecott's. If someone leaves goodreads their votes go away so it is good to have cover.

The day has come! The 2019 Caldecott Medal Selection Committee has made its choices.
The winner is:
Hello Lighthouse, written and illustrated by Sophie Blackall. (This is her second Caldecott Medal — Finding Winnie won in 2016).
The honor books are:
Alma and How She Got Her Name, written and illustrated by Juana Martinez-Neal
The Rough Patch, written and illustrated by Brian Lies
A Big Mooncake for Little Star, written and illustrated by Grace Lin
Thank You, Omu!, written and illustrated by Oge Mora
Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "Are the new titles on the list, or do they need votes, Mitchell? (I have votes to spare if needed.)"I voted for them. So that should put them at the very end of the list. There are definitely still a bunch of books that only have 1 vote. And I think the list is complete and doesn't have extras - but it is really hard to tell for sure.
