Caldecott Honor Books

The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the ALSC, a division of the ALA, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Every year the Caldecott committee also cites other books as worthy of attention. These books are referred to as Caldecott Honor Books.

Antoine This can't be a be a complete list, can it?

message 2: by Antoine (new)

Antoine OK, I added at least on book for each year from 1938-55. Now I am tire of it. But there is a list of all the honor books here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldecot...

message 3: by Luann (new)

Luann I cleaned up the list - removed a few Caldecott Medal winners that had been added and some Robert Stanek picture books that I guess someone thought were worthy of a Caldecott Honor.

message 4: by David (new)

David This list needs to be edited - about 15 chapter books listed - Little House on the Prairie #56 on through Heidi #95, plus some other picturebooks that don't belong.

message 6: by Jo (new)

Jo Added Me...Jane by Patrick McDonnell, which was recently named a Caldecott Honor book. :)

message 7: by Mr. Paul (new)

Mr. Paul I've been working on adding the rest of the honor books, but I'm maxed out. Can't add more than 100 titles. I've added all honors since 1960, if someone else wants to work backward from there.

message 8: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell I've done from 1950 to 1959.

message 9: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell and now I've done all from 1949 to the beginning - so presumably the list is full now.

message 10: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell wow. with 118 voters and 235 books, I'd expect more books with votes. Only 58 books have more than 2 votes. Only 95 books have more than 1 vote.

Has anyone out there read a large number of these? So far I've read and reviewed 14 of the top 100.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads I don't think I've read more than ten (or don't remember doing so). But so many have come out since I was of the age to read them!

message 12: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I've been collecting the award books since my kids were born (15 years ago) and have 41 of the top 100. I don't know any of the books from the last 5 years.

message 13: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell I last checked into to this list in january. The list is up 22 voters to 140 and up 3 books to 238. 77 books have at least 3 votes (up 13) and 123 books have at least 2 votes (up 28). And I've read and reviewed 56 of the top 100 (up 42) plus 5 more.

I'm still finding it a pretty fun and varied list and easily find-able at the library.

message 14: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell Still working my way through this list, solidly on the second page now. It is beginning to be harder to find the books - I still haven't located Dash and Dart. And I am still being surprised by books on this list - different points of view, changes in what we think a good book is over time, subject matter.

message 15: by Mitchell (new)

Mitchell I'd appreciate if others on this list would vote for books that have only one vote after verifying that they are really Caldecott's. If someone leaves goodreads their votes go away so it is good to have cover.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads Are the new titles on the list, or do they need votes, Mitchell? (I have votes to spare if needed.)

Mitchell Susanna - Censored by GoodReads wrote: "Are the new titles on the list, or do they need votes, Mitchell? (I have votes to spare if needed.)"

I voted for them. So that should put them at the very end of the list. There are definitely still a bunch of books that only have 1 vote. And I think the list is complete and doesn't have extras - but it is really hard to tell for sure.
