Very true! A book or poem at a young age can affect a person's entire life.
the books, to win a Newbery, must be written by a U.S. citizen or someone living in the US. (Gaiman now lives here, hence his winning the medal.) the medal was first given in early 1920s.

Thanks as I didn't realize this. I learn so much at goodreads.

I just wanted to bring it to someone's attention that The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare and When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead have both found their way onto this list, even though they both were winners of the Newbery Medal and aren't Newbery Honor books.Thanks.
The Newbery folks really like historical fiction, don't they? And I notice that what they pick isn't what kids would pick.
Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli and Number the Stars by Lois Lowry are both Newbery Winners, not Honor Books. Thank you

I added a lot more of the Honor books that had not been listed yet. I think that I managed to get the rest of them on the list, but I'm not positive about that.
There are six books on here that should be removed because they did not win a Newberry Honor.Running Out of Time

Removing a book requires a librarian (though anyone can remove their own vote).
Adding a book just involves clicking [Add Books to this List] and picking a book.
Just voting on a book, especially on pages 3 and 4, after verifying that the book you are voting for is truly an honor book is also very helpful. An individual can only vote for 100 books - so maintaining a list much longer than that requires the active cooperation of multiple people.
FWIW:
A Solitary Blue by Cynthia Voigt is on page 1 at #41 with 16 votes.
An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 by Jim Murphy is also on page 1 at #76 with 8 votes.
