I added A History of Histories: Epics, Chronicles, Romances and Inquiries from Herodotus and Thucydides to the Twentieth Century. The book is unusual in being completely black, also the end of the pages (there must be a technical term for this?)* so that when the book is closed all is black except for the title and border on the cover. Rather lovely.

* In the 19th century some books were 'marbled' so that the outside of the pages has these lovely flowing colours. I own a beautiful copy of the Collected Shakespeare from 1869 like this.

William Manchester, The Arms of Krupp, definitely should be added--I'll try, but I seldom succeed.

Book of Mormon, St. Joseph's Bible, and Necronomecon all appear in BLACKEST, but not often the K. J. Bible, although it used to be all black. My mother's was all black, My father's Daily Missal was black with red lettering on cover.

My main Bible is a K-Mart Blue light special in dark green! I sure like it. Most of my other Bibles are black. Dad left me quite a collection. I have a book about The Dark Arts too cause I want to know about everything.

I am actually a sucker for the lime green cover and the hot pink cover but black is certainly more mysterious.

You know whats wierd? When you go to a bookstore, you would think that the brightest colored books would be the ones that catch your eye, so you go to them first. But with me, its the black ones. Why? Cause cover art. Books with cover art thats black sort of stand out to me.

Black, black as your soul? Quite a frivolous list. Though, during the winter, I'll definitely consult it for the appropriate tome to accent my mood and threads on a given day.

I'm moody, so this and its sister lists sure will come in handy. Content, feh. Cover, double feh. Color of the cover of this edition that happens to be in North America these last few years-- now we're talkin!

Catching Fire and Mockingjay do NOT have a BLACK cover. As a matter of fact, there is NO black on the cover. Sorry, Hunger, but you need to delete them from this list and put them on a different list.

As far as I'm concerned, judging a book by it's cover (and title) is one of the best ways to pick out a book to read, so I support this list. However I have to point out that although these covers look amazing, black is a 'safe' color. It means dark and mysterious, and as YAs we/I are looking for that kind of thing. A REALLY good book cover can make us want to read it without having to use the black/dark theme. I just wanted to put that out there.

Yes, I agree. I started this list in one of my previous incarnations so have to come back now and then to see how its getting along! ;-)

lol, turns out a lot of my favorite books have black covers in some edition or another.
