Mandy (mandypants) Shannon, Wow. What are the odds of me picking for you a week after I sent you recommendations? Well, here are your picks so you can add more to your list! :-)

1. The Biggest Loser: The longest book on your TBR shelf was Ecstasy Untamed (Feral Warriors, #6) by Pamela Palmer.

2. Modern Family: I know it's not on your TBR shelf, but out of your fourteen books, I've only read two. Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft has a m/m subplot. Or, Agnes and the Hitman is really fun contemporary.

3. Channel Surfer: I can't believe you haven't read The Warlord Wants Forever yet! I downloaded it somewhere for free. Amazon, maybe? I don't remember. But, it's good!

4. Law and Order: Can we just cut and paste my emailed recommendations here? Fine. How about The Mane Event by Shelly Laurenston? Instead of your normal darker PNR, this is really funny. Or, much darker, The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook. The second book comes out on the 1st.

5. Dancing with the Stars: Since you're into PNR, I'm recommending a historical romance. Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean is fantastic! Or, Naked in Death by J.D. Robb is futuristic mystery.

6. That's So Raven: I have a thing for fae, so Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr would fit here. If zombies are more your thing, there's The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan.

7. The Amazing Race: Australia- Shadowfae by Erica Hayes or England- The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross

8. My Favorite Channel is BBC America: The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Renee Hieber or Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel

Ecstasy Untamed (Feral Warriors, #6) by Pamela Palmer Riding the Storm (ACRO, #1) by Sydney Croft Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie The Warlord Wants Forever (Immortals After Dark, #1) by Kresley Cole The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love By Numbers #1) by Sarah MacLean Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1) by Melissa Marr The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1) by Carrie Ryan Shadowfae (The Shadowfae Chronicles, #1) by Erica Hayes The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker (Strangely Beautiful, #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber Dearly, Departed (Dearly, #1) by Lia Habel

Christine | 955 comments Hi KarenH. Wow! You've got a lot of books on your to-be-read shelf, and a lot with which I'm not familiar. This might take me a while, but I'll be as quick as I can.

message 161: by Michelle (new)

Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments Barbara – Group F - Here you go – hope you find something you like ;>)

From your TBR – I used your “to read – own” list:
1. The Biggest Loser - recommend a long book from their TBR
George R. R. Martin’s “Game of Thrones"

2. Modern Family - recommend a contemporary/ or a book featuring an alternate lifestyle
You didn’t have much from this category to choose from so I picked something I’ve read recently I think you may like; Diedre Knight’s “Butterfly Tattoo”.

3. Channel Surfer - recommend an anthology, a book of short stories, or a short book of their TBR (for those of us with really short attention spans)
You didn’t have much here either [I don’t particularly like short stories or anthologies either], but did find Mackenzie McKade’s Beginnings: A Samhain Anthology

Now, for the good stuff – my reads for you!

4. Law and Order (in all its iterations) - in honor of one of the longest running series on TV, recommend a new to them series that you have read and enjoyed
It didn’t look like you’d read any of Pamela Clare’s I-Team series. So, I picked the first in this series; "Extreme Exposure".

5. Dancing with the Stars - recommend a book that is out of your partners comfort zone
I picked a book of romantic suspense – not too long on the romance, but very well written; Julie Dolcemaschio’s “Testarossa”.

6. That's So Raven - recommend a YA or a book where a child/ren play a significant role
I read this YA recently and it was very good; Cindy C. Bennett’s “Heart on a Chain”. If you just don’t want to try a YA book, I’ll also recommend Katherine Allred’s “The Sweet Gum Tree”. It features young adults prominently.

Buddy Reads – I can do these with you, if you like.

7. The Amazing Race - recommend a book in a country you would love to visit in the future; SCOTLAND!
I noticed you are also reading Monica McCarty’s Highland Guard series, so I’m adding the next one in there series out this month, “The Viper”.

8. My Favorite Channel is... - recommend a book that relates in some way to your favorite TV channel. I like news and/or sports when I watch TV, so picked a fun sport related book; Jill Shalvis’s “Double Play".

Enjoy!

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin
Butterfly Tattoo by Deidre Knight
Beginnings A Samhain Anthology by Mackenzie McKade
Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare
Testarossa by Julie Dolcemaschio
Heart on a Chain by Cindy C. Bennett
The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred
The Viper (Highland Guard, #4) by Monica McCarty
Double Play (Pacific Heat, #1) by Jill Shalvis

Recommendations for you

The Biggest Loser-the second longest book on your TBR is The Pillars of the Earth at 976 pages. My daughter thinks this is one of the best books she ever read.

Modern Family-Fifty Shades of Grey looks like it includes an alternative lifestyle. Also on my TBR.

Channel Surfer: One of the shortest on your TBR Fatal Heat: A SEAL Novella

From my Read list
Law and Order: One of my all-time favorite series is the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow. The first book is A Cold Day for Murder. She's a Native Alaskan--they only get better. Strong female lead who grows over the course of the series (there are 18 published) and Stabenow is a goodreads author.

Dancing with the Stars: Babysitting the Baumgartners. This was out of my comfort zone--the teacher in me was repulsed by the idea of anyone fooling around with the babysitter, even if she was over 18.

That's So Raven: The Adoration of Jenna Fox this was previously recommended to me in a pifm challenge and is one of my favorites. Very thought-provoking!

Buddy Reads
The Amazing Race: I'd love to go to Australia--if they can figure out a way to shorten the plane trip. Beautiful Lies takes place there --romance. Something heavier? The Great World

My favorite channel is. I wish they had a Mark Harmon channel...but they don't so I'll go with the Food Channel which I love to watch while I exercise. I have a bunch of titles food related and I found some on yours too. The Cookbook Collector I Was Told There'd Be Cake Creme Brulee Upset Hot in Here The Kitchen Witch or Sprinkle with Murder

~KarenH~ | 11334 comments Hi Lauren - I hope I did at least half as well with my picks for you as you did for me a couple of months ago!

From their TBR/new to them
1. The Biggest Loser
– I haven’t read any of the longest books on your TBR, and don’t even know much about most of the authors, so I’ll just give you a couple of choices that I have heard some good things about: Have You Seen Her? and Caine's Reckoning. Also, I have to give you one that’s not on your TBR, just because it’s long and it’s wonderful: Outlander.

2. Modern Family – This was a little easier – a couple of really great Contemporary/Romantic Suspense books are sitting on your TBR just waiting to be read: The Darkest Hour and Unlawful Contact. And if you’d like to try something that’s more of a straight contemporary (no suspense), two that I’ve read recently and enjoyed that aren’t on your TBR are Simply Irresistible and Exclusively Yours.

3. Channel Surfer – Here again I didn’t have a lot to go on, so I just picked the shortest books from your TBR: Cry Sanctuary and Regina in the Sun.

From your read
4. Law and Order (in all its iterations
) – The hard part here was limiting it to just a few choices! Beyond the Highland Mist is on your TBR, and while it’s not the best book in the series I still enjoyed it, and they just keep getting better as the series continues. A couple of other choices that are not on your TBR are Naked in Death, the first book in J. D. Robb’s In Death series, and It Had to Be You by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, the beginning of her Chicago Stars series.

5. Dancing with the Stars – You seem to read a very wide variety of genres, so finding something outside your comfort zone wasn’t easy. The only thing I noticed was that you don’t seem to have read any M/M. Caught Running is a sweet love story, and a good option for someone just starting out in the genre.

6. That's So Raven – I’m not a big YA fan, and it doesn’t look like you’ve read a lot of it either, but I will say that I enjoyed Perfect Chemistry immensely, and even gave it 5 stars.

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race
– Perfect timing for this one since I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland, and I’m already planning on reading In Bed with a Highlander for a discussion around the middle of the month – I’d love to read it with you if you’re interested!

8. My Favorite Channel is... – Sports are what I watch most of the time these days (I’m watching game 7 of the World Series right now) so I had to go with a sports-themed book – Changing the Game. I’m not including this as a buddy read option for 2 reasons: one is that I think I’m going to be a little short on reading time this month and don’t want to commit to something that I may not be able to fit in, and the other is that I’ve already read (and loved) it!

I hope you find something you like – if not, let me know and I’ll take another shot at it!

D.G. | 4477 comments Hi Lexa!

I had problems narrowing down the picks for you. I wanted to recommend so many books! Anyhow, I hope you find something there you like. :)

FROM YOUR TBR
1. The Biggest Loser
- Into the Wilderness by Sara Donati (912 pgs.) OR The Help by Kathryn Stockett (444 pgs.) I haven't read the first book but have heard tons of good things about it; the second I've read and really liked and it's not as long, LOL!

2. Modern Family - Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James OR Long Hard Ride by Lorelei James. The first one is a really good, funny contemporary; the second has a lot of menage action.

3. Channel Surfer - Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen (290 pgs.) OR The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks (214 pgs.) Just last year I discovered Sarah Addison Allen and since then I've read all her books! This is definitely one of my favorites. The Notebook I haven't read but I've heard good things about it. :)

SOME OF MY FAVORITES
4. Law and Order
- Hounded by Kevin Hearne OR Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare OR Mr. Impossible by Loretta Chase. Three of my favorite series...the Iron Druid Chronicles is both funny and interesting; the I-Team series is my favorite romantic suspense and the Carsington series has the funniest historical romance books I've ever read. Mr. I is actually the second book in the series but you can start there with confidence, the first book almost doesn't have anything to do with it and it's not as good.

5. Dancing with the Stars - Hot Head by Damon Suede OR The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I didn't see any M/M Romance or Epic Fantasy so I'm considering those out of your comfort zone. :) I really liked the first book and LOVED the second.

6. That's So Raven - Delirium by Lauren Oliver OR Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. Two of my favorite YA novels of the last year.

BUDDY READS
7. The Amazing Race
- On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta OR The Heir by Grace Burrowes. The first one is set in Australia and the other one in England...I've been to England already but I'd love to come back!

8. My Favorite Channel is PBS and most Sports! (watching Game 7 of the World Series right now.) - The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley OR Double Play by Jill Shalvis OR The Rana Look by Sandra Brown. For this category I suggested a Historical Fiction book that reminds me of Masterpiece Classic and two romances with heroes that are sports figures - I will definitely be reading the Sandra Brown this month because it fits one of my challenge.

Into the Wilderness (Wilderness, #1) by Sara Donati The Help by Kathryn Stockett Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James Long Hard Ride (Rough Riders, #1) by Lorelei James Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Extreme Exposure (I-Team, #1) by Pamela Clare Mr. Impossible (Carsington Brothers, #2) by Loretta Chase Hot Head (Head #1) by Damon Suede The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta The Heir (Duke's Obsession, #1) by Grace Burrowes The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley Double Play (Pacific Heat, #1) by Jill Shalvis The Rana Look by Sandra Brown

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Cathy C *waves* Love your lists! We read lots of the same stuff and I've picked up a few books along the way.

Your TBR
The Biggest Loser - longtime TBR books
Murder Game by Christine Feehan - I love Feehan's GhostWalker series and this book is one her best in the series. Get back into it!
Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare - Everyone raves about this series (I have the first one waiting to be read). You seem to have really enjoyed the first, so it's time to jump back in...

Modern Family - contemporary or alternative lifestyle
Welcome to Harmony by Jodi Thomas
Cowgirl Up and Ride by Lorelei James
I haven't read either, but both have good ratings and meet this category's criteria

Channel Surfing - anthology or short book
Men Out of Uniform: Three Novellas of Erotic Surrender by Maya Banks et al - Woohoo, this looks good. I've added it to my TBR :)
Roane by Marie Harte - this is just a fun short paranormal book with a heavy dose of erotica. *Ooops* - It's not on your TBR but I make up for that in the next set of categories ;)

My Reads
Law & Order - new to you series
Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison - great new series and I notice this is on your TBR: hop on the bandwagon this month!
Second Sight by Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle - This is the Arcane Society series which is predominantly a romantic/suspense with some paranormal and sci-fi thrown in for fun. I really enjoy them.

Dancing With The Stars - out of your comfort zone
Games of Command by Linnea Sinclair - I nearly always recommend this book. I love it - its a fun space romp space opera :)
After Dark or Shield's Lady by Jayne Castle/Jayne Ann Krentz - again more sci-fi, but they are really just novels set in another world. They are comfort reads for me...

That's So Raven (never heard of this show!) - YA or with a good dose of kiddies
Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles - OK, I haven't read this, but I did read the first book (same as you) and really enjoyed it, contrary to my expectations :)
The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer - another go-to author for my comfort reads. Heyer has a terrific turn of phrase and deft characterisation - and I thought I should throw in at least one historical romance...

Buddy Reads
The Amazing Race - book set in a country I would love visit
Faefever by Karen Marie Moning - we are both up to this book in the series and I'd love to visit Ireland, so why don't we take pull up the armchair, and read this together?

My Favourite Channel - book that fits my favourite type of TV show
Well, as we are both non-watchers, I thought I'd go with romantic mystery/suspense as this would probably be my preference
Cut & Run by Madeleine Urban & Abagail Roux - I'm going to read this with DG at the beginning of the month if you are interested in joining us. Warning: it is M/M :)
Texas! Lucky by Sandra Brown - this is the FAC author this month and it sounds like a romantic suspense - more emphasise on the romantic :)

Hope you find something on this list that tempts!

I'm definitely rooting for the Cards - the Rangers are in our division, so they're one of our biggest rivals. I just can't bring myself to root for them!

Okay, that didn't take nearly as long as I thought it might. Your TBR shelf was just a tad daunting, but I may revisit it to add some items to my own shelf. Here goes….

From their TBR/new to them
1. The Biggest Loser -
Divine By Mistake by P.C. Cast - 704 pages. This one was highly recommended to me in last month's PIFM challenge, but unfortunately I could never work it into my reading schedule.

2. Modern Family -
Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning. Again, I haven't read this series, but I've heard good things about it.

3. Channel Surfer -
Snowy Night with a Stranger by Feather, Jeffries, and London - or -
Supernatural by Ione, Ivy, Frank, Aiken

From your read
4. Law and Order (in all its iterations) - I saw some mysteries in your lists, so I decided to recommend one of my favorite mystery authors: A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton

5. Dancing with the Stars - I didn't see much urban fantasy. But since you like romance and mysteries, I thought you might enjoy Tempting Danger by Eileen Wilks or Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland.

6. That's So Raven - Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I've only read a few YA books, and this is a pretty quick read.

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race - In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks. I'm definitely up for a buddy read on this one!

8. My Favorite Channel is... On the Edge by Ilona Andrews or The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter

I hope you'll find something here you're interested in reading in November. I should be up for a buddy read on any of the three I suggested, but especially In Bed with a Highlander. Have fun!

I'm sorry to make you wait, but I just got home from the hospital last night and between being exhausted and the pain meds I just can't focus enough to do your picks justice. I will get to them over the weekend, I promise!

Megan L Harnett | 806 comments Hi Pollyanna,

From your TBR

1. The Biggest Loser:- A long book to recommend is Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon. This series is one of the best, even though each book is long the story is always fun and full of adventure!
2. Modern Family:- An alternate lifestyle book that is fun and interesting is Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I literally just finished this book a day ago and it takes place in a circus about a women from a supermodel world forced to live with traveling circus. If you only pick one book out my recommendations I suggest this one!! I loved it!!
3. Channel Surfer: A short story that I thoroughly enjoyed is Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. I loved this book and can't wait to finish the series!

From my Read shelf

4. Law and Order: A series that you should read is Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon. This Dark-Hunter series is one every romance/paranormal romance lover should read. There are about 20 books but everyone of them are excellent!
5. Dancing with the Stars:
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. This one is an odd but fun love story.
6. That's so Raven: A good YA story that I really loved was Nevermore by Kelly Creagh

Buddy Reads

7. The Amazing Race: I would love to read Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. It is based out of England and that is somewhere I have always wanted to go. I love period stories/movies so I would love to see all the English countryside plus London!
8. My Favorite Channel is....: Let's see I watch so much TV that I don't know which is my favorite drama or comedy. I guess it depends on my mood. So for this choice I would say I would like to read Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson I will pick a funny one.

Well I hope you enjoyed the picks I chose for you. If not let me know and I will fix them. Let me know if you want to do the buddy reads too.

Happy Reading!!

Megan

Suzanne (pebblesy) For Pam (VA)
I have to admit I'm not feeling too confident about my picks this time so I can give it another go if nothing interests you.

From your TBR

1. The Biggest Loser:A Game of Thrones

2. Modern Family: Virgin River I think this count's as contemporary? I also think it's got a slightly different lifestyle, the country way of life and all :)

3. Channel Surfer: Ok so I couldn’t find a single anthology or short story and I couldn’t work out just how short it should be so I’ve gone with a really short one I read a while ago: Stakeout for Love

From My Read

4. Law and Order: Angels' Blood

5. Dancing with the Stars: I found you seemed to have read quite a few books in most of the genres I do too so I’ve gone with something that was suggested to me out of my comfort zone, it’s a book with the BDSM lifestyle in it: Love My Way

6. That's So Raven: The Wind Singer

Buddy Reads

7. The Amazing Race: The Shadow of the Wind

8. My Favorite Channel is… well the main channel I watch is called channel 2… I don’t think books themed around this will be very easy to find… So I’ll just go with Sit-coms Talk Me Down

A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr Stakeout for Love by Christie Walker Bos Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Love My Way by Bridget Midway The Wind Singer (Wind on Fire trilogy, #1) by William Nicholson The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón Talk Me Down (Tumble Creek, #1) by Victoria Dahl

~KarenH~ | 11334 comments Hi, Christine, thanks for the picks - several of them look very interesting! I'm definitely up for the buddy read of In Bed with a Highlander, but I have to finish it by about the 15th for a reading circle discussion. If that works ok for you, then we can plan on that.

I've several other of your suggestions on my radar too, I just don't know if I'll have time this month to get to them! :(

Nancy H | 1111 comments Brett,
I had lots of fun looking through your TBR shelf and I saw lots that I might put on my own list - you have some good titles there! I'm not sure if my picks all fit the categories exactly, but I tried. If you don't find anything that looks good, I can put some more titles out here for you.

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld (an alternative history one with some fantasy - I was pleasantly surprised by this one and really liked it)
Twenties Girl - by Sophie Kinsella (I just read this as a buddy read last month and really enjoyed it, especially the 1920's lore.)

6. That's So Raven I have also enjoyed all of these, which feature young characters, some historical, some present-day:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley (could also fit in the next category with a child protagonist --- really good series!)
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles (Did you read "Perfect Chemistry"? I didn't see if on your list but might have missed it. It is the first one in the series.)
Sphinx's Queen by Esther Friesner (this is part of a series set in ancient Egypt, but I read it as a stand-alone and it was perfectly fine)

Buddy Reads

The Fourth Man - by K.O. Dahl - Norway
Bahamarama by Bob Morris - The Bahamas

Amy J. | 349 comments Merhaba Eimeriina !! I've been waiting for this to happen. I'm so excited to be recommending books for you this month. I hope that I don't disappoint you with my selections. If there's nothing here that you like I can try again. Just let me know.

I have problems deciding, so I've picked at least two options for each category.

Biggest Loser

You've got some of the same large books on your bookshelf as I do, but even on your shelf they scare me. So, I've picked other books for you.

Option 1: Jaime Fraiser is incredibly sexy, so I think you should read Outlander

Option 2: The Book Thief was one of the best books that I've read in the last couple months.

Modern Family

Option 1- Contemporary: It Had to Be You

Option 2- Alternative Life Style: Zero at the Bone- I have this listed for one of my challenges so I'll be very interested in what you think of it.

Channel Surfer

Option 1: If I Loved You, I Would Tell You This

Option 2: I love Ray Bradbury! The Illustrated Man

Law and Order

Option 1: The fever series is my favorite PNR/ UF series. I think you should continue with it by reading Bloodfever, it's even better than the Darkfever

Option 2: I know you've enjoyed the BDB series, so I think you should try Ward's other series. There are some tie-ins to BDB but it's different. Covet

Option 3: The Strain is a unique take on vampires

Dancing with the Stars I struggled a bit to come up with books outside your comfort zone, but I'm satisfied with my selections.

Option 1- Transgressive Fiction: Rant : An Oral Biography of Buster Casey

Option 2- Horror: Heart-Shaped Box

Option 3- Scifi: I, Robot

That's so Raven

Option 1: I was surprised that I really loved Unearthly. I can't wait for it's sequel

Option 2: Growing up it was one of my favorite books. I still love reading it. A Wrinkle in Time

The Amazing Race

Option 1 - Turkey: I didn't know which of the books you just recommended to me you've read so I chose a book written by an american but set in turkey The Lovers

Option 2- India: Life of Pi

Option 3- England: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

My favorite channel is HBO

Option 1: A Clash of Kings

Option 2 The Wise Man's Fear

Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon The Book Thief by Markus Zusak Zero at the Bone (Zero at the Bone, #1) by Jane Seville It Had to Be You (Chicago Stars, #1) by Susan Elizabeth Phillips If I Loved You, I Would Tell You This by Robin Black The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning The Strain (The Strain Trilogy, #1) by Guillermo del Toro Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill I, Robot by Isaac Asimov Rant An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk Unearthly (Unearthly #1) by Cynthia Hand A Wrinkle in Time (Time, #1) by Madeleine L'Engle The Lovers by Vendela Vida The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows Life of Pi by Yann Martel A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Well, we haven't read a lot in common past Stephanie Plum and Harry Potter, so I hope you find something you like.

TBR
Since I've read so few on your TBR, I gave you one non-TBR choice as well for each category.
1. The Biggest Loser:
East of Eden by John Steinbeck. This family put the Dis in disfunctional, reading it is like watching a train wreck, you can't look away.

The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey. A fun and interesting take on fairy tales.

East of Eden by John Steinbeck The Fairy Godmother (Five Hundred Kingdoms, #1) by Mercedes Lackey

2. Modern Family:
Hounded by Kevin Hearne. You don't often see the Celtic deities in UF, so that is a nice change. Plus the dog, Oberon, is a hoot.

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. One of my all-time favorite books. The characters are fun, snarky and quirky. You will crave Italian food while reading.

Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie

3. Channel Surfer:
The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. Good sense of humor in an unique fantasy setting.

On the Prowl anthology. Has my all-time favorite short story (Alpha & Omega), plus two others I really enjoyed. There was one I didn't like, but that's pretty normal for anthologies.

The Color of Magic (Discworld, #1) by Terry Pratchett On the Prowl (includes Alpha & Omega #0.5 World of the Lupi #3.5 Monère #4 Dorina Basarab #1.1) by Patricia Briggs

My Read List
4. Law & Order:
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Since you seem to love Stephanie Plum, I'm fairly sure you will enjoy Izzy and her crazy family of PIs.

The Diva Runs Out of Thyme by Krista Davis. You said you enjoyed cooking and baking and I was amazed at how Sophie kept putting these amazing meals on the table while complete chaos was going on around her. Plus the quotes at the beginning of the chapters from Sophie's and Natasha's columns are great. And it is perfect for November with the Thanksgiving theme.

The Spellman Files (Spellman Series, Book 1) by Lisa Lutz The Diva Runs Out of Thyme (A Domestic Diva Mystery, #1) by Krista Davis

5. Dancing with the Stars:
Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. An interesting way to look at life and try to explain things.

Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. A mystery series set about 50 years in the future with the best romantic lead and amazing characters that have kept it interesting over 30 books.

Freakonomics A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything by Steven D. Levitt Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb

6. That's So Raven:
Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is a classic about a young woman who learns that she has the power over her future.

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. You liked Harry Potter and while this series is set a bit younger throughout, it is a lot of fun, especially if you have any interest in Greek gods.

Howl's Moving Castle (Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan

Buddy Reads
7. The Amazing Race:
England - Soulless by Gail Carriger. It's on your TBR and sounds interesting.

8. Favorite Channel:
The Food Network - A Slice of Murder by Chris Cavendar. How can you turn down pizza?

It was great to wander through your shelves. You and I have similar tastes, and I found somethings I added to my shelves. I hope you find something here you like. If not, let me know and I can try again.

From their TBR/new to them

1. The Biggest Loser - It by Stephen King (1090 pages) Okay this is one of the few King books I love. It scared the crap out of me the first time I read it, and every time after. I've seen the lame made for tv movie and the ONLY redeeming thing is that Tim Curry is the quintessential Pennywise!

2. Modern Family - Ready Player One by Ernest Cline This was a rec to me recently and I've been dying to read it. Currently I'm number 39 out of 105 people waiting for it from the library. That tells me it has to be great.

3. Channel Surfer - The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein (64 pgs) Shel Silverstein...he's an amazing poet.

It by Stephen King Ready Player One by Ernest Cline The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein

From your read
4. Law and Order (in all its iterations) -
(1)Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison I picked this one up recently and LOVED it. Drago is an alpha hero I want to take home and keep forever.
(2)Extreme Exposure by Pamela Clare Gotta love an author who starts her opening scenes with her heroine asking the hero what a man really thinks of oral sex!

5. Dancing with the Stars -
(1)Laid Bare by Lauren Dane This one may be out of your comfort zone (M/M/F). It's an amazing beginning to a wonderful series! It made me laugh and cry all in one. The h is a beautiful woman who has to deal with a tragic past, but is still able to stand strong. Loved it!
(2)Promises by Marie Sexton (m/m Romance) This was my first M/M read. It broke my heart in places, but made me cry tears of happiness at the end. Jared and Matt are a wonderful couple. It is not over the top, but rather focuses on the intimacy between the two rather than outright blantant sex.

6. That's So Raven -
(1)Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli This is a great book. Several of the Reading Teachers in my building do this as a read aloud. Stargirl is the uniquely created individual whose story makes you realize the how the power of peers can be a monster or an blessing.
(2)Fablehaven by Brandon Mull When my son was 13 years old, he told me that he HAD to read the next book in this series because this one was so great. I was flabbergasted. My Soccer/Video Game son READING?? So of course I had to pick this one up, and he was right! It is great!

I had so much fun going through your shelves. I couldn't narrow down for most categories so I gave you many choices. If you don't like any of your choices, I'd be happy to redo for you. Just let me know!

From YOUR TBR

1. The Biggest Loser:

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley - I've heard so much about this book but I haven't read it yet. It is one of the longest book in your TBR. We can also buddy read this if you prefer.
Impulse by Ellen Hopkins - I liked the blurb hence the recommendation.
Paradise by Judith McNaught - OK, this is cheating but I just wanted to recommend this book. It is one of my favorite romances ever written

The Mists of Avalon (Avalon, #1) by Marion Zimmer Bradley Impulse (Impulse, #1) by Ellen Hopkins Paradise (Second Opportunities #1) by Judith McNaught

2. Modern Family:

Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles - This is one of the best YA contemporary books ever written. It is traditional, yet not. I've even re-read it twice.
The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson - I read this book as soon as it came out and it was one of the best emo reads I've read in YA.
Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey - Again, a bit of cheating but this is one good contemporary romance. The cover screams fun and the book delivers it.

Perfect Chemistry (Perfect Chemistry, #1) by Simone Elkeles The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey

3. Channel Surfer:
This was the most fun category. I remembered so much of childhood favs going through your shelf.

The New Girl by R.L. Stine - My school library used to stock up on R.L. Stine (They didn't have much adult books) and I gobbled them up. It fed my love of all things horror.
Believing Is Seeing: Seven Stories by Diana Wynne Jones - One of the best YA fantasy authors and this fits the category perfectly.
Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott - Scott is actually one of my fav YA authors. This is one of her darker books and it sounds really good.

The New Girl (Fear Street, #1) by R.L. Stine Believing Is Seeing Seven Stories by Diana Wynne Jones Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott

From MY Read Shelf

4. Law and Order:

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - I am so glad I finally decided to read Nalini Singh. Her writing is awesome and so is her world-building. One of the better PNR/UF out there.
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - This series is one of the longest and the sheer number of books might be daunting. But, take a chance on Eve and Roarke. The series is set in future and lots of stuff in that world actually sounds logical.
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - One of my favorite fantasy books. It has Irish mythology and is a retelling of one of the fairy tales. It stays faithfully to the original while adding depth.

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier

5. Dancing with the Stars:

My Most Excellent Year by Steve Kluger - I notice you haven't read much LGBT book and this is a very good place to start. This is the most happy and positive YA book. And it actually works. I read this book in one sitting smiling the whole time.
The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley - Also, there are not much romance books in your read shelf. This book is not just a romance but a historical fiction as well. Kearsley has intertwined two love stories (one in the past and the other present) deftly with the two stories complimenting each other.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin - A fantasy book from a debut author last year. One of the better fantasies I've read. I'm eagerly awaiting the third book so I can read them all together.

My Most Excellent Year A Novel of Love, Mary Poppins, and Fenway Park by Steve Kluger The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (The Inheritance Trilogy, #1) by N.K. Jemisin

6. That's So Raven:

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - I just read it this month as a part of Buddy Read and I loved it. We are also going to buddy read the next as a part of connected books - Lola and the Boy Next Door soon. You're welcome to join us.
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder - One of the truly different YA offerings. The female lead is strong and you can't help admiring her tenacity of live.
The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman - I didn't expect to love or like this book when I read it but I ended up doing the same. I was haunting the libraries to get the all three books in the trilogy at one go.

Buddy Reads

7. The Amazing Race:

North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley - Love the cover. And it takes place in US and China (Shanghai). Both places I'd love to visit.
The Shattering by Karen Healey - I loved Healey's first book and I'm eager to read the second as well. It takes is AUS/NZ (guess it won't be new to you!)

North of Beautiful by Justina Chen Headley The Shattering by Karen Healey

8. My Favorite Channel is..:
This was the toughest category. I don't watch TV at all. I remembered when I was in school, I used to watch comedy shows with my family or the music channel while I'm doing homework. So based on that flimsy reasons, here are my recs:

Fool Moon by Jim Butcher - I'm cheating but both of us have this in our TBR. I've been putting this book off for a long long time that I actually feel that the book is planning its payback on me!
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - It's sci-fi comedy which I guess fits the category. Plus I want to read this just to see what the fuss is all about.

Nice picks Erin! I just got in Dark Prince (Carpathians, #1) by Christine Feehan from the library after waiting forever, so I'll hold off on reading until Monday.

I'm also interested in reading The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde but I've one person in front of me on the library waiting list. I should get it in by the middle of the month, so we could do a buddy read then?

Let me know if that works for you :)

Nairabell | 433 comments Hi Valerie~Varuca!

Normally you'd be waiting a bit longer for your picks (it's 4am here in London) but I'm not well so I'm up and I figure I should do something productive. If nothing appeals or something is wonky with the list (like I miss a category or something - stupid sleep deprivation) give me a shout and I'll pick again.

From Your TBR

The Biggest Loser: Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon
You seemed to enjoy Night Play so hopefully Ash's book will be as good. It's a massive read and basically is two books in one giving Ash's past and then his romance.

Modern Family: The Perfect Play by Jaci Burton
I'm not a big contemporary reader so I was a bit lost for this one, but this sounds good plus look at that cover - ab-a-liscious!

Channel Surfer: Angels of Darkness
This sounds really good and you seem to like Ilona Andrews books. Plus like you I really like Nalini Singh :)

From My Read Shelf

Law and Order: Shadow Game by Christine Feehan
I'm being a little cheeky with this as I haven't read the whole series yet, but I've really enjoyed the ones I have read.

Dancing with the Stars: The Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff
You don't seem to have read any horror novels and this one scared me so much last year I couldn't stop reading until I'd finished. The author usually writes screenplays so this reads like a horror movie.

That's so Raven: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
You don't seem to read much YA. This is a little like Twilight in some ways but I really enjoyed it. It also has a very unique take on angels.

Buddy Reads

The Amazing Race: Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This is set in Prague where I desperately want to go. It seems like an awesome place, and I've heard great things about this book :)

My Favorite Channel is...E4: Glass Houses by Rachel Caine
That channel probably makes no sense to anyone outside of the UK, but they show things like One Tree Hill, Smallville, Big Bang Theory - I'm guessing that kind of makes them like the CW? Anyways you have a couple of Morganvilles bind ups on your TBR and I've been meaning to read this for forever :)

Anyways, let me know about the buddy reads or if you want any repicks :)

Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #15) by Sherrilyn Kenyon The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton Angels of Darkness by Ilona Andrews Shadow Game (GhostWalkers, #1) by Christine Feehan The Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone, #1) by Laini Taylor Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine

Vi | 2794 comments Yay, Shell! Thanks for the great recs. I don't know where to start with the books. I've been putting off Dragon Bound for a long long time and I guess it's about time I started it. I also want to start It but I'm daunted by the length. I also want to read the Pamela Clare and the Stargirl. In short, all of them. I'm not comfortable with menage but I'll try the M/M book too if I can get my hands on it.

As for the buddy reads, I currently can't seem to get into Historical/Regency romance. So I'll go with the Edwards or the Andersen book if I can get my hands on it. If you can get your hands on Ready Player One this month or later, then maybe we can buddy read this? It seems a book to read with a buddy..

Once again, thanks for the great recs!
