Huge 5+ stars

Do Over is one of the most delightful, heartwarming, sexy, erotic, passionate, and endearing books I've read. There is no angst, no miscommunication, and no regret. It's simply a feel good novella full of love, memories, and devotion.

Do Over is a beautifully told story about a husband who adores his wife of 25 years. Troy, the hero, surprises his wife, Faith, with a trip back to their hometown where he planned a wonderfully romantic and nostalgic weekend full of love letters, music, and visits to all the special and meaningful places that shaped the beginning of their life together.

I was captivated and charmed by Troy's and Faith's characters, relationship, and history. There was a genuine and amorous feel to their relationship that radiated off the pages. It was easy for me to relate with them, laugh with them, and fall in love with them and their love story.

I'm in awe of Mari Carr's ability to write deeply endearing characters full of depth and charm into a richly developed plot in less than 75 page. Simply amazing.

I love this romantic, delightful, and steamy novella. For me, the reward of reading Do Over was that it helped remind me how much I'm still head-over-heels in love with my husband of almost 20 years. If that doesn't make this book special, I don't know what does.

5+ stars – Contemporary/Erotic Romance

WOW! This is without a doubt one of the sweetest and most satisfying, touching, sexy, and thoroughly romantic short stories that I’ve read. I absolutely loved it!

Faith and Troy Wainwright are back in their hometown for a relaxing visit now that their kids are settled in at college, but Troy’s got a romantic anniversary surprise in store for his wife to celebrate their twenty-five years of marriage. He takes Faith on a trip down memory lane to relive their most special moments together and redo their “firsts”. It’s a sentimental journey of remembrance and reconnection and along the way they learn more about each other, revive their youthful desire, explore new areas of erotic passion, and fall in love all over again.

It’s a splendid, heartwarming love story with genuine characters that brought tears to my eyes several times, and it’s plenty steamy too! I’m very impressed that a short novella packed such an emotional wallop. It’s a wonderful example of why I so enjoy a good romance and also a terrific reminder of the beauty and magic in normal, everyday love stories of all kinds. Thank you Mari Carr for writing such a moving, romantic story! Big 5 stars!

Mari Carr delivers a short and sweet erotic tale about a married couple who spends a weekend rediscovering their love. Though there is no real conflict or angst in this story, I found it to be rather sweet and engaging. The characters were likable and the story flowed nicely. This is a real cute read when you need something short and sweet with a bit of spice. Good job!

~sigh~ I want letters like that!! What a sweet, romantic, hot, love story!

I picked this up after reading several comments about how good it was - I'm always looking for short books to fill the gaps. Must have been my anniversary, but I felt compelled to read it this weekend even with no gaps to fill in my reading schedule... I loved how this story unfolded. An old married couple, I can say that because I am part of one, finding their way back to each other - not overlooking each other, and remembering why they became a family in the first place. I don't really get the whole empty nest thing, my hubby and I never lived alone until the kids were grown and out of the house and we relished our time together without their distractions! But I do have some friends who have gone through it, now I know to just tell them to read this book and get back to where they started from! Troy is an amazing husband and while Faith may not have seen it at first, she was smart enough to realize the gem she had before long! This was a really great romantic novella, anyone looking to read about true, lasting love should pick this one up!

I had a spot to fill in a challenge that called for rereading an old favorite and this is the one I picked - I am so glad I did! It was just as sweet as I remembered and I still want letters like that!

This is a very touching story about a man and his wife finding their special groove again after their kids are gone and its more than sex. If you have been married for years and had kids you know things between you and your spouse gets put off , especially in the romance department;) Well, this story is about Tory surprising his wife in more ways than one on their trip home. This is very realistic and very emotional. I loved the letters he wrote to his wife and the way she reacted at each one. These two finds a deeper love for each other and Tory adds spice to their sex life again. There is mention and play of anal sex.

I had to give this book 5 stars just for the sweetness of it!! It was a pretty short story but wonderful!! I was actually in tears more than once, happy tears mind you! Faith is feeling a little bit of empty nest syndrome and feels like her hubby(who I instantly fell in love with) is kind of oblivious, but he is anything but....For their Anniversary he takes her on a weekend of 'Do Overs' starting with when they met. I don't want to give too much info since it is a rather short story, but this was about the sweetest thing a man could do, I LOVED IT!!! Oh, and there is plenty of HOT SEX thrown in their weekend too!!

Faith and Troy Wainwright have been married for nearly twenty-five years. Married right out of high school, and then having two children to care for their lives took on a routine pattern. Feeling her husband, a man of few words doesn’t share the same concerns, Faith starts feeling a bit of the blues.

Fast approaching their wedding anniversary, Troy and Faith head to their hometown. Troy puts out a surprising plan for Faith, for them to “do-over” all their firsts.

The story is just wonderful. Troy really shows his romantic side. I think all of the surprises he did were really sweet and a couple made me tear up right alongside Faith.
Coming from similar circumstances I can totally relate to how Faith is feeling, and I’ve only been married eight years, it’s so easy to fall into a routine pattern and not realize the feeling of a lost connection.

This is not your typical second chance/rekindled romance. There’s no drama or heartbreak. It’s about two people still very much in love after twenty-five years reconnecting their love, even stronger.

In most cases I feel a novella should be longer, but in this case I feel it was perfect. The author shows plenty of back story to satisfy the reader. The writing style is smooth and easy to read, and all around was a joy to read. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

*Note* before reviewing this I had a 4.5 star rating. After writing the review I changed it because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

OMG, I LOVED this story, what a fantastic romance, it blew me away. This coming from a person who usually does not like short stories, now that is really saying something.

The story was so sweet, I smiled through the whole thing and just could not put it down.

I adored both the H&h and REALLY felt the love they shared for each other.

The sex/loves scene's were plenty and oh so good. Can you believe all this happened in a 66 page story? That just Amazes me and if you decide to read this book, I'm sure it will amaze you too.

*Sob* *Sniff* *Sigh* Oh Troy! What a man, what a book. Emotional, sweet, passionate and very, very HOT! A short story that was jam packed with all things good. Just lovely.

One quick note to the author, the ages of the characters based on the timeline given was off...or was is just me?! Married at 20, for 25 years and Troy was 43, not in my book. Annoying but it didn't take away from the story.

4 blazingly erotic stars!

First off, a HUGE thank you to my dear friend Karla who recommended this novella to me. It was everything she promised it would be!

For being only seven chapters long, this book proves that you don't need to have length to have substance, emotion, and off the charts heat!

This book (in essence) is a trip down memory lane. It is Troy and Faith Wainwright's 25 year anniversary. They have just sent their second child to college and they are now "empty nesters". Their marriage has been a great one, but they have slipped into routines and have lost the "passion" that once burned so brightly between them.

Troy devises an anniversary gift where he takes Faith to all the most monumental sights of their courtship and marriage. At each sight he has a letter waiting for Faith that communicates his love for her and the significance of the moment. The letters are sappy and over the top, but they were so beautiful and heartfelt that I fell in love with this man and this couple.

The steam is high in this novella. Troy and Faith have not lost their sense of adventure in the bedroom and the scenes between them are very very erotic. I appreciated that this book was written about a forty- something married couple and still managed to make the sexual aspect of their marriage as hot as any 20-something novel I've read.

This novella is most certainly worth the read and packs one big emotional punch despite the short length.

Highly Recommended!

4 1/2 stars. I needed a book like this! Even though this was a very quick read, it was great to experience the deep, everlasting love of Troy and Faith. What Troy did for Faith, and himself, was beyond romantic. There is no villains or big conflict, no cheating or misunderstandings just a beautiful story of what a wonderful man did to show his wife of 25 years how even though he isn't always prince charming their lives together have been his real life fairytale.

When I got pregnant with my first child 19 years ago the must read book for me was What to Expect When Your Expecting. I look at Do Over as a must read book for me going into the empty nest phase of my life. I have a few years, but that gives my husband a couple years to get his planning down, because now I will expect no less.

What a cute and romantic story!

This book hit so close to home. I can picture what it would be like 25years from now, wondering if my husband and I still got it. If Troy and Faith can heat up the bed sheets just by running down memory lane ,then so can I. LOLZ!

Troy and Faith are in their 40's and 25years of marriage later, with 2 children whom are both now in college.Faith feels lonely and misses her children. Her and Troy's feelings for each other haven't changed over the years, but the passion they once had is pretty mellow. The words "Love You" were just a saying. After a trip back to their old hometown, her husband has a few sneaky tricks up his pants to show Faith his appreciation to the one woman,he loves so dearly and who revolves around his world.

Troy's plans were to re-unite and "Do Over" all their special events since the day he met Faith. His wife of 25years has no clue what her husband is up to but is willing to play along and enjoy the moments. For ever picture, gift and letter Troy presents, puts Faith into tears and she begins to realize,"After all these years she thought he was easygoing and unobservant,"he has" Her husband understood their lives better then she had. It was astonishing and overwhelming, she cried throughout the story. Then again,so did I =)

As for my thoughts and opinions,I can honestly say, this short story could have done without the sex scenes. ( most know that is rarely unusual for me to say things like that) I loved the plot of the story,it was just so sweet, heartfelt and loving story. But the dirty sex talk and boinking scenes were a no go for me. I remember telling a friend who had an issue with it as well,"That's gonna be us one day.I wanna be able to have my mojo going at any age" but honestly. The thought was shiver worthy.Exactly what Sam once said "It reminds you of your parents getting it on" hehehehehe...I don't wanna picture that. Other than that, every time I set the book down and picked up again where I left off,I just started welling up with tears again. As Faith would say, they were "happy tears" Not every Hero in a story can make me fall for them in such a way,but Troy did it for me. I Loved it!

This was a really sweet read, it was also pretty damn HOT too!!

When life, and children are the largest part of marriage, I think we tend to loose sight of what brought 2 people together in the first place. Troy was so sweet, and thoughtful. And I will admit the sweet letters he wrote to his wife jerked a couple of tears from my eyes.

Troy and Faith Wainwright are now empty nesters with both of their children now off at college. Faith has been feeling lost since her life has always been consumed with her children. Her husband Troy decides to take her on a getaway to their hometown for their anniversary. Troy planned a trip down memory lane of firsts for them, memories, and even a couple of do overs.

Along their journey down memory lane, Faith realizes that a new chapter in her life with Troy has only just begun, and they reignite passions that have been put on the backburner for years, and discover some new bedroom adventures as well. Troy was HOT for a middle aged guy, I had to keep reminding myself that he was.

I hope when my children leave the nest, that I still want to jump my husband’s bones!! LOL!

This was such a wonderful story. First time I've cried at a book in a long time and it was just touching. I think anyone out there who is a parent knows that when you have kids, your marriage takes on a different role. It's not that you don't love your spouse or desire them still, you have to sneak in quality time and make arrangements for romantic evenings way in advance. Although I haven't reached this point in my marriage, I am sure that it's hard to go from giving all of your attention to your kids to becoming an empty nester. You almost do have to start all over again.
I loved Faith and Troy's story. It was so touching that he went back to their hometown and took her on a trip down memory lane.
This story was sweet and tender, but it was also smoking hot too! Loved the chemistry and the author did a great job of writing the intensity that was stirred up from all of the memories and emotions.
FIVE STARS! Loved it!

Who knew a couple who has been married for 20 years could get so freaky? :-) Seriously, this was a great story. It was a walk down memory lane for a couple who were just recently empty-nesters. She was taking it harder than her husband. Or at least she thought so. And, I suppose, she was technically correct. He was viewing this time as a way for them to reconnect, to have more freedom than they had when the kids were home. But his letters, and the thought behind the whole weekend... so sweet. I've had this for quite a while, and I'm not sure why I didn't read it before now, but I'm glad I finally did.

4.0 to 4.5 Stars

This novella had so much depth and wonderful relate-able characters.

This was a beautiful, moving, well crafted and yes very sexy book, but the sex is secondary to the story.

I think a lot of women would relate to Faith. Her children have left home, she loves her husband of 25 years but something is missing. She is going through "empty nest" syndrome and is wondering what her life will have to offer without her children at home.

Her husband Troy gives her an unexpected Anniversary gift of going back to their hometown where they grew up and had so many memories to surprise her with a "do over" of things in their past and to reignite some of the passion which is missing from their marriage.

Faith and Troy communicate really well so you have don't have angst in this book, but what you have is something very special between a couple searching to create memories for the remainder of their lives.

The letters had me tearing up. They were beautiful and Troy was just such a wonderful character. I loved Faith and Troy. This story was sweet, emotional and I definitely cried once or twice.

This book was such a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed every page. I finished it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down.

Review of Do Over by Mari Carr

This was recommended to me (by Samantha...thanks, Missy!) as a nice "older" couple story. Faith and Troy have been married for 25 years, and Troy decides to surprise his wife with an incredibly romantic re-hash of their lives together....revisiting the location of their first kiss, church where they were married, etc etc. OK, seriously, this dude is the man! He is so sexy, sweet, thoughtful and romantic, I just wanna bottle him up and chug him like a bottle of Corona. (That's a weird image, but work with me, people...). This story is very romantic and wonderfully emotional. And super sexy! I can't wait to read more of Carr's stories. Excellent!

Slick's review posted on Guilty Pleasures

I came across Mari Carr’s Do Over when I was buying books for a recent trip. Reading the synopsis and because it was a Mari Carr book, I knew I had to read it. You see, my husband and I were heading out on a trip to celebrate our 25th anniversary and this story is about a couple celebrating 25 years and re-discovering each other. While I knew it would be a good read since I’ve never read a bad book by this author, I had no idea how hard this book would hit me emotionally. Even if you haven’t been married a long time or have a significant other, anyone who dreams of a lasting relationship will appreciate this book and hopefully learn that long relationships take work, respect, and two partners dedicated to each other no matter what.

Faith Wainwright is suffering from empty next syndrome. Her second child is off to college and she’s feeling at loose ends. She’s lonely and throwing herself a little pity party and thinking that not having their children around hasn’t affected her husband, Troy, at all. Then Troy sets out to remind her how their life together evolved and together they discover each other all over again.

From the first chapter, Mari had me hooked. These characters are so real and their plight so common that is was hard not to fall in love with them and their story. The letters written by Troy to remind Faith of their past were so heartfelt that I cried through each and every one (try being on a crowded airplane and trying to disguise your tears as a cold, it’s not easy). Watching them revive the excitement they once had for each other and realize that they are still those same people is incredibly satisfying and very passionate.

It’s my hope that after reading this review and hopefully this book, it will help someone rediscover their partner. My hubby and I had this same sort of epiphany as Faith and Troy about 3 years ago when our son was in high school. For us the book was Strong, Silent Type by Lorelei James but I have no doubt that had we read this one instead, the result would have been the same. Sometimes, you just need to wake up and realize that you’re in a rut and do something about it. For us, it’s been an amazing few years and I know it will only get better. Thank you Mari, for writing a story about a long term committed couple who still love each other. While I enjoy stories about discovering new love, it’s great to read stories about lasting love.

I’d like to leave you with this quote and if this sounds familiar, please read this book and then take action. You won’t be sorry, I guarantee. “After so long together, their roles had evolved gradually over time until they settled in their now-comfortable pattern. The lust of their honeymoon phase had shifted away from red-hot lovers after the first couple of years. For a few years, it seemed like they were roommates rather than a couple and at times, they’d felt more like coworkers whose job it was to raise two kids. Lately though, they’d simply become best friends.”

Well gush! This was such a beautiful little story. I don’t know what I was expecting exactly when I picked it up, but I did know that I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did. It was just, gosh so darn cute.

This has to have been my very first romance story about a married couple. I don’t think there are that many out there to be honest. And what makes this romance about a married couple different again is that it’s not about Divorce, it’s not about infidelity, or a marriage on the brink – this is a love story about a married couple who are reigniting the fuel and love they have for one another.

Faith is finding herself feeling somewhat, lost. She has been married for over 20 years, her kids have grown and moved out and her hubby is nowhere to be seen most days and now Faith is left twiddling her thumbs wondering what the heck to do now. Her relationship with her husband is great but after 20+ yrs of marriage they have fallen into a well grooved out routine.

Troy her hubby – who is described as pretty yummalicious for a 40ish guy, is Faiths rock, but can see that the relationship between her and Faith needs a refresher course, or a ‘Do over’. Troy organized, quite skilfully I might add – a weekend away to their home town under the false pre tense of ‘visiting friends and family’. What Faith doesn’t know is that Troy has actually organised for them to relive all the special and unique moments of their relationship – from their first kiss to their wedding.

This book overwhelmed me with its tenderness. A lot of husbands out there need to have this short story shoved in their faces with a little * nudge, nugde, wink, wink* ... It really makes you think about your own marriage, and what you could do to make sure you appreciate everything that life throws at you.

I’m just hoping and praying that after 25 years of marriage to my husband, I still think he is hot to boot and can have as hot a sex life as these two!

Fantastic short read, highly recommend to anyone but specifically married couples.

Good. Lord. I. Loved. This. Book.

It's super short - so it's a quick read. I know sometimes it's hard for a short book to really give you a feel for the characters and make you understand them. That wasn't a problem with this book. It was shocking how well developed the characters actually were, given the length of the piece.

The story focuses on Faith and Troy, a couple who has been happily married for 25 years. Recently, their youngest child left for college - and for the first time in a long time, they are alone. Faith is feeling the pains of an empty nest. To cheer her up, Troy suggests they go home.....to their hometown where their parents still live.....and where they met and fell in love.

Faith is sort of having a pity party with her mom.....the kids are gone, she's lonely, Troy is Mr. Happy-go-lucky, etc. She's not unhappy in her marriage....she just doesn't know what to do now that she doesn't have to parent every single day. Suddenly Troy come in (she thinks he's been out golfing with his Dad) and hands her a bag and tells her to go upstairs and change. Faith is confused, but she does it. When she gets upstairs, she realizes that the bag contains Troy's old high school letterman jacket. Still confused, but curious, she leaves with Troy and he proceeds to take her around the town to all of the places where they had their "firsts" and their momentous moments - where they shared their first kiss, where he proposed, the church where they got married, their honeymoon suite at the hotel, etc.

OMG. While I loved every single thing about this story - it also pissed me off because I am not convinced that a man like Troy exists. Cause Troy is fucking perfect. The sweetest, most romantic, sexiest.....you name it. And to boot - he is still totally, head over heels in love with his wife, even after 2 kids and 25 long years of marriage.

Beautiful story, hot sex, and it's nice to read a romance novel that doesn't involve a bunch of crazy shit. It's just your average married crazy hot passionate romantic loving erotic monkey sex.

I loved this book. 5+ stars.

I do not normally enjoy novellas or short stories. I have to fall in love with the characters of a book in order to like it and to me short stories just do not give you enough time to get to know them. Do Over was an exception for me. I really enjoyed Faith and Troy as characters. They were a couple who had been married for over 20 years and though still deeply in love they fell into the rutt that can commonly be referred to as daily life. Troy recognizes this and tries to do something to let his wife know he still loves her and she is still the most desirable woman he has ever laid eyes on.

Do Over was a nice and short pick me up novella. Troy did a romantic thing for Faith what I think any woman would melt over. Remembering the smallest details of how, when and where they fell in love and then including a note that explains how that moment made him fall more in love completely endeared me to Troy. Troy was a "normal guy" and the do over he planned for his wife was a normal guy's way of showing his wife he still loved her so I tried cut him some slack for his verbalization. But this would be my fantasy romantic adventure and honestly I wouldn't want my husband's love letters to repeatedly contain the words "shit" and "fuck" or variations of said words (even though my husband is also a vary "normal guy" who uses these words often) :) Overall I'm being a bit nit picky and for the short story that Do Over was I enjoyed it very much.

Do Over was so incredibly sweet for such a short story! Troy, a man of few words, is thoughtful and romantic from his actions to the letters he presents to his wife, Faith, during their “Do Over” weekend to relive their past. He highlights the most important of those moments, from the moment they first noticed one another at Prom in high school, to his proposal, their wedding, their first home.

The relationship between Faith and Troy after 25 years of marriage is inspirational. I know it’s just fiction but reading things like this really makes me believe in that happy ever after…that love and marriage can last! I hope when I reach that 25-year mark with my husband that we have a relationship worthy of writing a wonderful story such as this.
