I'll be in bed *snoozing* by the time the rest of you catch up to 5pm today!! :) (Admittedly it is only 10.20am right now, so I'm 6hrs 40 mins early...)
I just got excited as I realised it's the 28th! Then I remembered that I'm waaaay ahead in NZ so have to wait until tomorrow :(
lol! well, you got to wait until tomorrow night my time...but if i'm feeling nice, i might post the categories in the am
Ah well - at least we get to start reading the new a little earlier when the new month starts, Suzanne!

I'm just hoping whoever I get to pick for in November actually reads one of the books otherwise I might have to give up! Unless something changes soon this will be 2/2 where my pickee doesn't read a thing
Oh - too bad Suzanne! I've been doing this challenge most of this year, and I've only had one where I didn't receive feedback... (That was this month!)

What annoys me is when I have to pick for someone with like 40 books on their read shelf & 14 on their TBR. How the heck am I supposed to work with that?!? I've had that happen at least 5 times since participating in these challenges last year.

Wow... now that would be hard! I guess it's just a self-satisfaction thing to see whether you're good at guessing what someone will like or not...but good point! I've done my bit & I've been given some fantastic recs so far
Whoever gets me, can I note that I have a TBR shelf now? It's really just a random list of books I have sitting here. Not really a list of books I want to read. So whoever picks for me should just pretend that I don't have a TBR list. Thanks!

And my person last month only had one author on her TBR and 7 books. Though I think I did a pretty good job of picking books. Oh well. I'm hoping this month is better.
Why do you have a TBR now when you haven't ever before, Jim? Did you cave under the GR pressure, you conformist, you!@ Suzanne: I've had some really good recs too. Most of them have been good & I think I've done a good job for others as well. It's just really hard when their TBR & Read shelves are pretty much nonexistent. Those are the days where I have to pull something out of my ass & cross my fingers.

I always get pickees with hundreds of books on their TBR. Doesn't someone here have over a thousand? I always get lost in there. I have over 700 books in my to-read, so I guess I'm not one to talk.
Rossy has a ridiculous number of books on her TBR... 2,000 plus books? But I'm not sure that she participates in this challenge regularly... And I'm too lazy to check :)
I remember I did for someone who had more than 3K books in their TBR. It was mentally exhausting to go through such a big list. But then it is ridiculously easy to add books to the TBR. I 'try' to go through my TBR once a month to prune books that I don't wanna read anymore but it doesn't happen often enough, I guess.
My TBR is huge at over 700 but they are all books I want to read and keep putting off. I do prune it regularly but I keep adding because I'm crazy. I apologize in advance to whomever gets stuck with me.
Suzanne, I have had a few people never get back once I posted recs for them. I just shrug and move on. But I've had others really enjoy the pics and have new books opened to them they never would have looked at without this challenge. I know I certainly have. My preferred reading genre is contemporary romance. However, I rarely get pics in that field. Almost every month I get YA, UF, PNR, and historicals. And that's probably a good thing. I've been forced to pick up books that are outside of my comfort zone. Books that I never would have touched on my own. And 90% of the time I end up liking it. I've even had several reads come out of this that I REALLY liked. So even if your pickee duds out on you, know there is still a lot to get out of the challenge.Lethal Lovely, I did not 'cave to the pressure'. I go to a couple different used book stores and book sales on a regular basis. I sort of have a thing about buying books that I probably will never read. That gives me a stack of unread books in my bedroom. Currently that stack is 600-700 books. I figured that if I cataloged the ones I currently own, I would stop buying so many repeats. Because if it caught my eye for $1.00 one day, it will probably catch my eye for $.50 six months later. By pulling out a handheld device and checking my current stacks, I can prevent that from happening. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to add books to a I-Own-These-But-Will-Probably-Never-Read-These shelf without also adding them to either the Read, Currently Reading, or To Be Read shelf. And of those three, TBR is the least offensive. I'll get around to adding the rest of my 'TBR' stack when I get around to it. But one afternoon I did the first 250 or so. Thus I actually have a TBR shelf.
LOL - such a reluctant move Jim! ;)I set up my wishlist to be mutually exclusive of my other lists though... You should be able to do this... (If I can, you can - but I'd have to go back and invent a new list to work out what I did :)
Jane, I suppose I could create another shelf called, "Books I Actually Want to Read" but what would be the point? People will see the TBR shelf and use that for picks. The good news is that whatever is picked from those shelves I can be sure that I won't have to buy.So how can you stand waiting? It's like 12 hours away and I just want to be able to pick already!
True true re bookshelves...I was almost horrified when I saw Dee put 5pm on 28 October! Almost another whole day for me to wait!!! And to make matters worse - I've spent the day twiddling my thumbs!
I'll be in bed within the next 2 hours, and y'all be having the fun of picking away whilst I'm dead to the world :)
jim - you can make I-Own-These-But-Will-Probably-Never-Read-These exclusive, then books will only show up on it. - if you go to my books, and on the left where your shelves are, click the tiny edit hyperlink, and then select the box for exclusive on that shelf and voila!re: no books or few books on their shelves - I have a pseudo-standard list that I have for cases like that - lots of old and new favorites. I think one month, my person never responded and had a private shelf (didn't add me) and then the second person only had like 50 books on their shelves
Dee! Thank you so much. Of course the eight books that I read since adding them will now have to be re-added to the Read shelf and removed from the books I own but that is a small price to pay.I no longer have a TBR shelf! All is right with the world again.
Isn't the deadline usually on 28th Oct? Mostly in the evenings, if I remember right. Btw, is it AM yet there for you, Dee? Are you feeling nice enough to post the categories? ;)

Suzanne, think of it as a freeing experience. You are not constrained by an unexciting list of books that I already know about. Besides, I have 843 rated books in the Read shelf and I write at least a sentence or two for 90% of those. I think that should give somebody a good base upon which to make picks.

True that. What bugs me is the waiting. I went through a spell last spring where I think I went into the re-mix or didn't get my picks until the last day three out of four months. That was frustrating.
Just to let whoever I have to pick for, I will try and get them done tomorrow but if I don't have time I will do them by Sunday evening.

I am - i'm just debating what category to put myself in...lol! because I watch like 1 show in each major category and that's about it...haha!
Sigh, I can't decide any book for the My Favorite Channel is... Category! I don't have a favorite tv channel TBH. I just watch whatever's playing on the tv. And in Singapore, the tv choices aren't a lot! :(
I'm stuck taking a class..grrr...off to check the categories!
