For the past few years we've gone through a process of voting for and scheduling past reads from the group bookshelf and reading them as a side group. This is intended to work in conjunction with the group Read All the Books! challenge. It is not necessary to join the challenge to participate in this process.

We'll be voting and scheduling for three months at a time. We'll be scheduling two reads per month based on member votes.

1. Voting will take place in
-> November for January-March
-> February for April-June
-> May for July-September
-> August for October-December

2. Schedule will be posted by the end of the voting month

3. Books that have been read by the group (main or reread) in the 24 months prior to the scheduled period will not be eligible, and will not be listed on the form

The only thing you'll need is a gmail login. You'll be able to change and update your votes at any point during the voting process. Books will be listed as title, author, page count.

For all books on the group shelf, see the links at the bottom of Current Events.

Bobby Durrett | 233 comments Voted for ones that I would like to read soon, but I am happy if other interesting books win out so I can be exposed to something new.

message 11: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments I usually tick the ones I already own and haven’t read, which is quite a lot. Sometimes I also tick any that I’d love to reread one day. Hope springs eternal that if one of any of those gets picked, the stars will align and that will be the needed impetus to actually read them!

Bonnie | 1279 comments Oo no 1q84

There are a few other momunchers left for me: The Wheel of Time, Gardens of the Moon, the Alastair Reynolds... but at least I think I will enjoy reading those
I didn't really like The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle

Stephen Burridge | 507 comments How do you break a tie? For example, if the list above were the final one, how would you choose which of the 3 books with 11 votes would be eliminated?

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments We tell people there's a tie, and usually someone breaks it :) If not, I will break it before I close voting!

I mean, sure I ought to like his books. Or at least understand them.

(I like his writing, just not the bits with/about women.)

A reminder that the books that make it will go into the pool of options for Virtual Book Club! So, if you want to chat with us about books once a month, make sure the books that make it to the top are books you want to discuss!

We've been asked not to pair The Goblin Emperor with The Bear and The Nightingale, Lakshya.

Is there a particular reason you've paired the other four books like that? If we know what books you want to read with us we'll try to come up with a schedule that accommodates the majority, if not everyone.

message 42: by Lakshya (last edited Nov 26, 2022 09:44AM) (new)

Lakshya Singh | 4 comments Just wanted to start the year with the books i know i will like, that's why WoK and Red Rising in January.
You can go ahead with unpairing Goblin Emperor and The Bear and the Nightingale.
I have just recently read Three Body Problem so I thought to push it to March.
No other strong reasons, you can consider my request but please go ahead with the schedule which majority of the members will like.
I'm looking to forward to reading all five books except The Bear and the Nightingale with you guys.

message 43: by Mihai (new)

Mihai Zodian | 80 comments Three Body Problem in March would be great for me too, for the same reason.

Maybe it works switching Red Rising with Three Body Problem in Option 1 to keep the SF-Fantasy pairing.

message 44: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10434 comments Ryan, you still mulling this over or do I steamroller in? :P

(Option 1 going twice! I need to publish the schedule tomorrow.)
