A constellation is a group of stars which are set reasonably close together with a name assigned to them. The name usually, but not always, has something to do with Greek mythology and, when the stars are connected with lines, reveal an image or pattern which someone deemed they looked like and for which they were named. I imagine at some point in time, someone looked at the stars similarly to the way some look at clouds and tried to find images hidden amongst them. Perhaps they inspired the first connect the dots game.
The following is a list of constellations listed by the month they are most visible to the human eye or telescope in the night sky. Your mission, if you wish to accept it, is to read as many of the constellations as you can in one year.
You may do so via (feel free to mix these options up however you'd like):
1.
Spell-it-out challenge using characters, titles, author names, etc. to denote a letter to each constellations letters in its name
2,
Read books with titles that include the constellation's name, abbreviation, or image name
3.
Reading a book(s) that in some way, shape, or form connects it to the said constellation. For instance, the constellation Boötes' image is associate with a herdsman. If you wish, you may read a book with a cowboy in it or on the cover. Similarly, the Constellation Microscopium's symbol is a microscope. You could, therefore, read a book with a scientist in it. Additionally, some of the constellations are names and if you read a book with a character who has that name (like Leo in Lisa Kleypas' Hathaway series) you can mark the whole constellation off that way as well.
Be creative, make connections, and have fun reading and making your own connections to the star groupings. You DO NOT need to read the constellations during the month they are listed under. I just thought it would be fun to know which months the constellations were most visible.
