Regina Scott started writing novels in the third grade. Thankfully for literature as we know it, she didn't actually sell her first novel until she had learned a bit more about writing such as vocabulary, sentence structure, and plot. After numerous short stories and articles in magazines and trade journals, she got serious about her novel writing. The Unflappable Miss Fairchild was her first novel to be published (March 1998).

Besides her novels, Regina Scott has had published three Regency novellas ("The June Bride Conspiracy" in His Blushing Bride, "Sweeter Than Candy" in A Match for Mother, and "A Place by the Fire" in Mistletoe Kittens). And if it's rejected once or twice or eighteen times, the next time might be the charm. You also don't have to go to a traditional big publisher anymore. There are smaller presses hungry for authors, and there is self-publishing. I know how easy it is to get depressed. I might have dozens of good reviews, and then I see one poor one and feel bad for days. (One of the reasons I sometimes avoid Goodreads ;-)). If industry news stops you from writing, stop reading industry news until the book's done. You can always catch up later (and you'll have missed some of the drama). Our writing muses can be shy, easily frightened things. Focus on feeding them (writing, doing things that encourage your creativity and positivity). Hope this helps! (less)

As I was researching for this post, I ran across a number of excellent blogs, where my sister authors and other lovers of history had already covered picnics wonderfully well. So, I though Read more of this blog post »
