Melanie Cellier grew up on a staple diet of books, books and more books. And although she got older, she never stopped loving children’s and young adult novels.  She always wanted to write one herself, but it took three careers and three different continents before she actually managed it.  

She now feels incredibly fortunate to spend her time writing from her home in Adelaide, Australia where she keeps an eye out for koalas in her backyard. Her staple diet hasn’t changed much, although she’s added choc mint Rooibos tea and Chicken Crimpies to the list. 

She writes young adult fantasy including her Spoken Mage series, and her Four Kingdoms and Beyond the Four Kingdoms series which are made up of linked stand-alone stories that retell classic ...more

Melanie Cellier answered FC Marshall's question: Why is The Princess Companion told in first person and The Princess Fugitive told in third person? (I just finished The Princess Fugitive and LOVED IT, by the way! The High King brought tears to my eyes and made me feel hope and love in real life, and I am impressed with the character arch you gave Ava.) And are other books told mostly in first or third person? With my first series (The Four Kingdoms), I wrote each book in whichever point of view felt right for that book. As a result, the series is fairly evenly split between first and third person. Melanie Cellier answered Russell R.'s question: I've read only The Secret Princess, The Mystery Princess, and now I'm finishing The Rogue Princess. I'm intrigued by the Palace of Light, but so far I've gotten only a smattering of information. Does any of your works focus exclusively on the High King, the Palace of Light, and its various wonders? Does any work include the origin and a full history of these? Do you anticipate writing anything like that? None of my books focus exclusively on the High King or the Palace of Light, but the one that includes the most information is The Princess Fugitive (The Four Kingdoms Book 2) as one of the characters travels to the Palace of Light in the story.
