I see a lot of people asking on here and on the social media channels for a list of ALL of the books we have read together in Our Shared Shelf.

So, below I have complied a full list of the books (starting with the first book) and have included a link for each to the book announcement, a link to the discussion topics (for those catching up with older books) and a link to any interviews with the authors of the books.
I hope you find this useful :) If you see any mistakes or broken links please let me know!

179584 Thanks for sharing the article Vern. I think there are always a select number of people who only ever believe in something if it benefits themselves and do not think about all of the voices that should be heard. These feminist want equality, but not for trans people... it proves we have a long way to go.

179584 Hi Lujain,
Thanks for the intro, it's great to have you on the team :)
I wanted to wait until I had completed 'The Things I Would Tell You' before responding. I found the whole book really eye opening, not all of the written pieces were to my taste in terms of style, but a lot of what was written has really stayed with me.

The story you mention "Us" made me feel ashamed. As a white woman, I know that this sort of behaviour goes on (though have never actually witnessed it myself) and it makes me feel totally ashamed and embarrassed about how uneducated people can be about the Muslim community.

I think the media have a big part to play in the spreading of racism over the world, even some of our major newspapers spread hate and lies everyday (of course they try and do it in a subtle way), but it plants the seed in people's minds.

As far as the written pieces in The Things I Would Tell You, I enjoyed reading 'Mezzaterra'. Of course I can't claim that any 'resonated' with me because I have not faced these experiences. But I still enjoyed several pieces for how well they were written.

179584 Good question Vern :)
Although I can't claim to have witnessed antagonism 'in real life' I have been reading plenty of articles recently about the subject.
In the past few days there has been news that LGBT group has cut ties with Tennis legend Marina Navratilova over her comments about transgender women for example. (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019...)

We definitely need to include trans people in discussions about feminism. Unfortunately there is still so much stigma surrounding trans people, similar to how it was around 30 years ago for gay people. Trans people need more of a platform to have their voices heard, but a lot of people still have a huge problem with trans people and don't want to listen.
Education is key, and I do think that we are making some progress (albeit fairly slow) but the more we see people like Laverne Cox, Lana Wachowski, Danica Roem and yes...even Caitlin Jenner in the spotlight, the more we can learn and understand the key issues they face and how best we can offer our support in teaching others about life choices and acceptance.

179584 Thanks Shana :) I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen you here for a while. No pressure from us to come back if you are busy, we will be here for you when you get more time ;-)

179584 I have been reading this thread for a few days, I wanted to wait until there was a good amount of replies by various people before adding my own thoughts.

Sandra, I really appreciate your honest response and I hope your health picks up! I'm rooting for you.

Ana Paula, your well thought out and honest post is truly appreciated! I would like to add a bit on to one of your points...

Members who joined here because they are a primarily a fan of Emma should NOT be shamed into thinking they shouldn't be here. Emma wants this group to be INCLUSIVE. Nobody should feel like they do not belong here simply because they are a fan of Emma - that would be ridiculous. You can be both an Emma fan AND a vocal feminist.
It must be said that in my 3 years of moderating, it is actually quite rare to find people coming here just to create a post declaring their love for Emma, so to suggest that people see this as a fan club for Emma is pretty far off the mark I think.

I am not saying this group is perfect, I completely understand many people's frustrations with various aspects of it.
We (as moderators) are here to listen and try and make your experience here as enjoyable as possible. You should always feel free to message any one of us, even if you just want a rant about something - our job is to feeback your thoughts, don't sit in silence if something is bothering you - let us know!

If you want to put your ideas /thoughts/opinions forward, whether positive or negative, then I for one welcome you all to voice your opinions here, or if you would prefer to do it privately - my PM's are always open. :)

Yes it is indeed out in the US. :)
We still have over a month of reading this book, but it doesn't matter if you do not finish 'in time' because we still have members contributing to discussions of books gone by.
179584 Dear OSS,
We would love to hear your questions for Sabrina Mahfouz (editor) and some of the authors of 'The Things I Would Tell You'.

Unfortunately we only have a very short time frame to collect your questions (maybe 3 or 4 days) so please have a think and ask your questions as soon as you can in the comments below!

We will select as many as we can to ask the authors!

Many thanks,

179584 Dear Our Shared Shelf,

We are delighted to say that OSS celebrates its 3rd birthday today (January 8th)! From our very first book 'My Life on the Road' by Gloria Steinem, to our most recent selection, 'The Things I Would Tell You: British Muslim Women Write' edited by Sabrina Mahfouz, the breadth of intersectional feminist discussions between Our Shared Shelf members has inspired a practice of perpetual growth for us.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you all for making Our Shared Shelf what it is today! Three years of sharing intersectional feminist ideas has flown by like a really good book you don't want to end. Here's to a brilliant 2019!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In gratitude and solidarity,
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The OSS Moderators ❤
