As for the buddy read, I have the Lisa Kleypas but will have to see if the library has the other. You can let me know at what time of October you would like to read it.

Thanks again for great picks!"

You're quite welcome, Julie! I also own the Kleypas book (I've actually already read it, but we don't have any TBR books in common) so whenever you want to read it, I'm game. I also have to look & see if my library will be able to send me the other one.

Enjoy!

Thanks Katie!! I don't really do m/m romance, so I think I'll give The Raven Prince and First Grave on the Right my attention this month....I've heard great things about them both! If you'd like to do the buddy read on First Grave, I'm definitely down for that! :-)

Penney (pschoener) | 3553 comments Good Morning Michelle! Ok, I'm all bright-eyed and bushy tailed this morning. Not really, but nothing a few cups of coffee won't fix ;) I had fun looking through your lists, we have similar tastes but enough different choices to make it an adventure. Thanks for that! So here's what I've come up with...

From Your TBR
1. Pop: Dragon Bound ~ Ok, you're going to see a lot of this one here this month, but there's a very good reason for that. It's really good! Lili recommended it to me last month and I've since passed on the rec to a few other people. Or you could try If You Dare. I love everything Kresley Cole and if you like her Immortals After Dark series I think you'll enjoy her historicals as well
Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison If You Dare (MacCarrick Brothers, #1) by Kresley Cole

2. Golden Oldies: Obviously, since you just joined, your tbr picks are all recent, so I just went to the beginning of your list. Still, I came up with two very good ones. Secrets of a Summer Night ~ It looks like you enjoy Lisa Kleypas and this is the first of a great series. For a change of pace go for Hounded. It's a great UF book, the first of a trilogy, no romance but lots of action and humor.
Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1) by Kevin Hearne

3. Rock: I've not read either of these but if you go by hottness factor of the cover, you can't really go wrong. The Perfect Play or Too Hot To Touch (and the latter could be used for the food category in the Oct Monthly Challenge ~ just sayin')
The Perfect Play (Play by Play, #1) by Jaci Burton Too Hot To Touch (Rising Star Chef, #1) by Louisa Edwards

From My Read Shelf
4. Classical: I don't usually enjoy reading anthologies so I chose to go with the husband and wife writing team of Ilona Andrews. This also seems to be a big choice this month, but that's because they're so good. Start with the Kate Daniels series (♥ Curran *sigh*). You have Magic Slays on your TBR, but I don't see that you've read Magic Bites. If you haven't make sure you start with it and the read them in order for proper character development...and just so you don't miss out on all the fun.
Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews

5. Country: Here are two good books, one with a cowboy and one with a bucolic setting (at a lake)... Once a Cowboy and One Reckless Summer
Once a Cowboy (Harlequin American Romance) by Linda Warren One Reckless Summer (Destiny, #1) by Toni Blake

6. Adult Contemporary: You like mystery, you like romance and the perfect combo of the two is J.D. Robb's Naked in Death series. I adore these books, the growing relationship between Eve and Rourke and whole cast of colorful characters. It's a series that just gets better and better. If you're into pnr with humor look into First Grave on the Right. I read this one recently with my bookclub, eagerly moved on to number 2 in the series and can't wait for the third to come out.
Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones

7. Indie: Two authors/books that I thoroughly enjoy but don't see often enough, Kimberly Killion and Elizabeth Vaughan. Her One Desire is a refreshing different take on the historical romance. She's the daughter of the King's Executioner and the hero is slated for torture and execution. Great Book! Elizabeth Vaughan's Warprize fantasy trilogy is one of my favorite reads. I love a strong female lead paired with an equally strong hero.
Her One Desire (Zebra Debut) by Kimberly Killion Warprize (Chronicles of the Warlands, #1) by Elizabeth Vaughan

Buddy Reads
8. Hip Hop: I plan on reading Good Girls Don't for another challenge and I wouldn't mind picking up Angels of Darkness when it comes out next week.
Good Girls Don't (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #1) by Victoria Dahl Angels of Darkness by Ilona Andrews

9. Jazz: I am super jazzed to read Fifty Shades of Grey. I wasn't planning on reading it this month, but I could be easily persuaded :) I am planning on reading Edge of Sight though. Jim recommended it to me and I'm looking forward to the read.
Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) by E.L. James Edge of Sight (The Guardian Angelinos, #1) by Roxanne St. Claire

I hope you find something that interests you among this little collection. Happy Reading

Hi Diane ~ Thanks for all the great recommendations ~
I'm def going to read Kiss of Midnight and Too Hot To Touch ~ I know yummy cover. I actually have Fantasy Lover sitting on my nightstand waiting for me so will start it this weekend. If I can get it from the library in time I will try to read Poison Study as well ~ I keep hearing good things about this book/series so it's probably time for me to start it, lol. I could possibly do a buddy read of Extreme Exposure if we could do it more towards the middle to end of month. Thanks again for all the great recommendations!! Now I can't wait for Oct 1 :0) ......

I hope I found something here you might like! Please let me know if you need something different!

From Your TBR:
1. Pop:

Divergent by Veronica Roth -- LOVED this book so much...my favorite dystopian novel ever.

2. Golden Oldies:
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan -- you've had this one on the pile since you started with GR. I enjoyed this series a whole lot.

From My Read Shelf:
4. Classical:
Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews -- really the only option here....this is by far one of the best UF series on the planet. Oh how I love Curran!

5. Country:
The Texan's Wager by Jodi Thomas -- one of my comfort reads and one of the very few beta heroes I have really fallen in love with.

6. Adult Contemporary:
Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare -- you read the first two and enjoyed them...I personally think the last three books in the series are the strongest.
Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden -- fabulous...sort of reminds me of one of my fave shows, Criminal Minds

7. Indie:
Seers of Light by Jennifer DeLucy -- I fell in love with this book right off the bat, and William is pretty high up there on my best heroes ever list.

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews The Texan's Wager (Wife Lottery, #1) by Jodi Thomas Unlawful Contact (I-Team, #3) by Pamela Clare Deadly Fear (Deadly, #1) by Cynthia Eden Seers of Light by Jennifer DeLucy

Oh, wow MountainKat. So many great choices this month.
I'm in lust with the I-Team series, so I will for sure read Breaking Point.
I'm going to try to get to Kiss of the Highlander, Cover of Darkness (Suspense Series, #2) and No Place to Run as well. I'll see what else I can get to as the month progresses.
I would be happy to read Canyons of Night (The Arcane Society,#12. Looking Glass Trilogy,#3, Harmony, #8) by Jayne Castle with you this month. Haven't read anything in about this series for months, so looking forward to getting back into it.
I hope all goes well for your surgery.

Elke (ejurca) | 1810 comments Ok KarenF, here are your picks. It was fun looking through your shelves! If you don't like any of these picks let me know and I will try again!
Happy Reading!

Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie Ruthless (The House of Rohan, #1) by Anne Stuart The Many Sins of Lord Cameron (Highland Pleasures, #3) by Jennifer Ashley

My TBR
Classical: The Guy Next Door by Lori Foster, Susan Donovan, and Victoria Dahl. This was a pretty good book and it introduces a few characters in Lori Foster's new series.
Country: Under Her Skin by Susan Mallery. Pretty good start to the series, I have only read the first two...hmmm I should get the rest done!
Adult Contemporary: When You Dare by Lori Foster. This is the start to the series I mentioned above....really good and the guys are HOT!!
Indie: Mr. Maybe by Jane Green. Ok, this one was hard for me, I don't think I have read any "Indie". I noticed this book not mentioned in a long time...and I thought it was good.

The Guy Next Door (Includes Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor #0.5; Donovan Brothers Brewery #0.5) by Lori Foster Under Her Skin (Lone Star Sisters, #1) by Susan Mallery When You Dare (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #1) by Lori Foster Mr. Maybe by Jane Green

Hi Ana!

Thanks for the great recs! Now I don't know what to read. :)

From my TBR, I'll try to get to either
Ravished by a Highlander or Wicked Burn (I'm not sure I could do the buddy read because I have like a million books from the library to return.)

From your read shelf, I'm intrigued by both Ritual Sins and Faking It. They are both in my price range ($3.99 or less, LOL!) so I'll try to read one of them. :)

I've only read one book by Connie Brockway and I loved it and I've been meaning to read more by her. Thanks for reminding me! I won't be able to get to 'Dearest' this month but I'll definitely add it to my TBR! :)

Jojo | 1010 comments Hi Laurie

This is my first pick it for you so hope it’s all OK – here are your picks

1. Pop: Open Season by Linda Howard – I noticed that like me you’ve read a lot of LH’s books and I really enjoyed this one so I hope you do too.
2. Golden Oldies: Black Hills by Nora Roberts - All your TBR’s are fairly recent so I picked one of the first books on your list (another one I really enjoyed)
3. Rock: Covet by J.R. Ward – Great body on a bike (another 5 star for me)
Open Season by Linda Howard Black Hills by Nora Roberts Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Where's My Hero? by Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas and Kinley Macgregor – I don’t often read anthologies but I love JQ and the KM was my favourite.
5. Country: Lawless by Nora Roberts – read this years ago, one of the first cowboys I read about but it’s always stuck in my mind.
6. Adult Contemporary: The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks – this book has it all murder, drugs, sex and violence
7. Indie: The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde – not really a romance or if it’s classed as Indie and not too sure it will be available in the US but it’s a great series.
Where's My Hero? by Lisa Kleypas Lawless (Loving Jack #3) by Nora Roberts The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) by Maya Banks The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next, #1) by Jasper Fforde

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: The Ideal Man by Julie Garwood – had to look around a bit but this is on your TBR list and would be a new author for me so would be keen to try.
9. Jazz: Without Mercy by Lisa Jackson - Only read one from this author and eager to try more
The Ideal Man by Julie Garwood Without Mercy by Lisa Jackson
I’ve never taken part in a buddy read but would be happy to give it a go.

Jojo | 1010 comments Hi Katrina

thanks for the picks they all look great and are very difficult to choose from i plan on reading at least one from each section -
From my TBR I'm reading Kiss an Angel for another challenge this month so I'll use it as an excuse to read an extra book and I think I'll read Dark Lover cos I've been really keen to try it.
From your shelf I would have picked Coming Undone but I'm just finishing it today so I'll pick Texas Destiny instead.
The buddy reads sound good I've not done one before so let me know what I need to do -
Thanks

L-D (lannie95) For LESLIE in Group D

Okay - I really spent a lot of time going through these and hopefully there is something that you are interested in reading. Also, feel free to let me know if you want me to pick something else...

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh is the first book in her Guild Hunters series. 5 stars
2. Golden Oldies: Sentence of Marriage by Shayne Parkinson. I selected this book because you already own it and although I have never heard of it, it was rated 4.14 stars by GoodReads readers.
3. Rock: Lover Mine – Black Dagger Brotherhood #8. This looks like the next one in the series you haven’t read.

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews. The first book is a little slow, but this series really picks up and is one of my favorites.
5. Country: Keeping Promise Rock by Amy Lane. Okay, this pick is definitely going to be a new one for you and I kind of went out on a limb. This is the only cowboy book on my read list, but it is a 5 star book in my opinion. It is a romance but it is M/M so may be out of your comfort zone. The only reason I am recommending this is because you have Warrior’s Cross on your TBR list which is also an M/M Romance (though not nearly as good as Keeping Promise Rock). The story is a really touching, tear-jerker and I loved it.
6. Adult Contemporary: Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane, first book in the Downside Ghosts series. This book actually starts a little bit slow but the series is one of my favorite, favorite series. It also fits this theme nicely by hitting on sex, drugs, violence, AND murder. This is a gritty and fabulous book and Terrible (a drug lord’s muscle man and fixer) is such a phenomenal and wonderful character. I hope you like this series as much as I do.
7. Indie: Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch is the first book in the “Kitty” Kat series. This is a very light, humorous book about some special ops agents that turn out to be aliens. Very hot, delicious aliens. I really enjoyed this series a lot but I don’t know many people who have read it.

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Lord of the Vampires by Gena Showalter, book #1 in the Royal House of Shadows series. This book was released on 8.23.2011 and I have been meaning to read it. Would be happy to do a buddy read.
9. Jazz: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. This was part of my September challenge but I never got the book back from my sister-in-law so I would like to read as a buddy read if you’re interested (and if she returns the book!)

Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Sentence of Marriage by Shayne Parkinson Lover Mine (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #8) by J.R. Ward Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Keeping Promise Rock (Promises, #1) by Amy Lane Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane Touched by an Alien (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #1) by Gini Koch Lord of the Vampires (Royal House of Shadows, #1) by Gena Showalter The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins

Nancy H | 1111 comments Lacy,
Thank you! What great picks you gave me! I have to admit that while being a high school librarian, I have already read the Sarah Dessen one, the Agatha Christie one,and the Gayle Forman one, BUT I love these authors. I haven't read the newest Sarah Dessen, so I could always read that one if you don't mind, and I love, love, love Agatha Christie ( I read "And Then There Were None" at least 4 times!), so I could also read another of hers. Not sure what I could substitute for the Gayle Forman, but also I don't know if I will get that far, because the others you have chosen look absolutely perfect!

Don't worry about the Buddy Read- if the person I chose for wants to do it, I will do it with her, and if not, I will just keep on reading them myself. I had already planned to read "First Grave on the Right" since so many people liked it and commented on it in this group last month.

Thank again for the great choices! Will start them asap!

Oh, and I forgot to say, my TBR pile literally is in the thousands - I have been collecting books since forever---I just don't have the time to list all of them on the list here, or I would have no time to read!!

Melanie (Moviemavengal) (moviemavengal) | 31 comments Pollyanna, Hope you find some books you'd like on this list. This is my first time participating in the challenges.

From your TBR shelf
1. Pop: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie,
One of my favorites by her.
2. Golden Oldies: The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.
I saw you loved Coraline and Stardust. This book is as magical as those. Just adored it. Alternately, John Irving's The Cider House Rules
3. Rock: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh. I love this whole psy/changling series. This is the first one and a pretty hot bod on the cover!
Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh

From my read shelf
4. Classical:
Mysteria I saw you like PNR, and this series of books about the small town called Mysteria where really weird things happen are pretty cute. If you can't find the first one, Mysteria Lane and Mysteria Nights are also in the series, and I don't think you really need to read them in order to catch on. The authors are Mary Janice Davidson, P.C. Cast, Gena Showalter, Susan Grant.
5. Country: Flat-Out Sexy I'm not really a Country type of girl, and I don't follow NASCAR, but I love this series of books. Smart Bitches, Trashy Books turned me on to this author, and they are really good and hot. Should give you a slice of unfamiliar American culture! (Unfamiliar to me, too!)
6. Adult contemporary: Something About You This one is set in Chicago, right near where I'm from. Our heroine overhears what she thinks is obnoxiously loud sex in the hotel room next to hers, but she actually has overheard a murder. Can you guess that the lead detective will be our hero? Julie James is a great new contemporary author that I really enjoy.
7. Indie: Can't Stand The Heat This category was hard for me. What's Indie? I saw that you recently added some cookbooks to your list which gave me the idea for this book. The hero has a new restaurant, and the heroine, a food critic, totally embarrasses herself at his opening. Louisa Edwards is a new author, and this is the first of a trilogy. I enjoyed the subplot with her brother very much.

Mysteria (Mysteria #1) by MaryJanice Davidson Flat-Out Sexy (Fast Track #1) by Erin McCarthy Something About You (FBI, # 1) by Julie James Can't Stand The Heat (Recipe for Love, #1) by Louisa Edwards

Buddy reads
8. Hip Hop:
Good Girls Don't I love Victoria Dahl. I don't have this one yet, but it wouldn't take much of a push for me to buy this one!
9. Jazz: My One and Only I got this recently, and have been wanting to read it.

Good Girls Don't (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #1) by Victoria Dahl My One and Only by Kristan Higgins

Hope I picked some books that will be fun for you this month!

Vi | 2794 comments EDIT: My safari crashed. With my almost finished post. Damn you, Safari. May you rot in ****. I've tried my best to recreate the comments but ...

Hi MountainKat,

I found another NR fan! Going through your shelves was fun (apart from the fun NR memory trip). I got caught up with the shelves and that is why I'm 2 hours late with this post :). I tried to limit my books to my TBR with an odd book here and there just a little bit outside your zone. Off to the picks now:

From Your TBR Shelf:

Pop:

1. Paradiseby Judith McNaught - I noticed that you had other books by McNaught but not this. I'm not sure if you've read it and didn't update the shelves but this is one awesome awesome book from McNaught. It's my personal favorite.
2. A Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith - One of those angsty romance set in Southern. I couldn't put the book down after I picked it up. I pulled an all-nighter to read it.
3. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - A little bit outside your comfort zone but this is a Irish fantasy. There is a dash of romance in it and is a wonderful intro to the fantasy genre.

Paradise by Judith McNaught A Place to Call Home by Deborah Smith Daughter of the Forest (Sevenwaters, #1) by Juliet Marillier

Golden Oldies :

1. The Duke And I by Julia Quinn - You have got to read the Bridgerton series by JQ. The first book is a wonderful starter. My personal favorite is Romancing Mister Bridgerton, #4 in this series.
2. Cry No More by Linda Howard - An emotional read from LH. People I've recommended to always love this book.
3. Bloodfever by Karen Marie Moning - You've rated the first book in the series as 4 stars. You should continue the series. It keeps getting better, I promise.
4. The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale - What's a goldie without Laura Kinsale? This is my personal favorite and it has a rare virgin hero.

The Duke And I (Bridgertons, #1) by Julia Quinn Cry No More by Linda Howard Bloodfever (Fever, #2) by Karen Marie Moning The Shadow and the Star (Victorian Hearts, #2) by Laura Kinsale

Rock:

HOT Covers. Enuf said.

1. The Rogue Hunter by Lynsay Sands
2. Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh - Come on, continue this series. It's one of my top favorite series of all time.
3. Unlocked by Courtney Milan - A bit of cheating but the dress is hot. This is a novella btw but a good chance to try Milan.

The Rogue Hunter by Lynsay Sands Mine to Possess (Psy-Changeling, #4) by Nalini Singh Unlocked (Turner, #1.5) by Courtney Milan

From My Read Shelf:

Classical:
This category is actually a bit difficult since I don't read anthologies or books with 2 or more authors writing under a name.

1. Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews - It's my abs fav UF series. Kate and Curran rock.
2. Burning Up - I want to recommend the Iron Seas steampunk series by Meljean Brook. This book contains an excellent prequel. (I like the prequel better than the first book - The Iron Duke)

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews Burning Up (Includes Iron Seas, #0.5; Children of the Sea, #3.5; Psy-Changeling #8.5) by Angela Knight

Country:

1. Never Love A Lawman by Jo Goodman - An oldie but a goodie. Goodman's first Western romance.
2. Corralled by Lorelei James
3. Black Hills by Nora Roberts - How can I not recommend a NR book to a fan? And this qualifies barely for bucolic setting

Never Love A Lawman (Reidsville, #1) by Jo Goodman Corralled (Blacktop Cowboys, #1) by Lorelei James Black Hills by Nora Roberts

Adult Contemporary:

1. Take Me by Bella Andre - Looks and sounds HOT and awesome.
2. Glory in Death by J.D. Robb - The series gets more and more awesome as it gets on. It's still going strong at 30+ books.
3. Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - Can you tell that I really love Nalini Singh?
4. Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey - This is my new favorite fantasy series. An unusual world with an unusual setting and an unusual heroine. And really, it's so much under-appreciated.

Take Me (Take Me #1) by Bella Andre Glory in Death (In Death, #2) by J.D. Robb Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Kushiel's Dart (Kushiel's Legacy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey

Indie:

1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - I read this book a month or two back and it blew me off. It's my top reads for this year.
2. Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire - A seriously under-appreciated urban fantasy series. Give this a chance.
3. Exclusively Yours by Shannon Stacey - I love the cover for this book. It screams fun and makes you want to read the book. And the book does live upto the cover.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire Exclusively Yours (Kowalski Family, #1) by Shannon Stacey

Buddy Reads:

Hip Hop:

I already have the following three books. So I'm ready to start anytime.
1. Yours To Keep by Shannon Stacey - This is the third book in the series but I heard they don't have to be read in order
2. Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison - OK, so I'm cheating. Not exactly released in the last 3 months but the third book is going to be released (I think) and an excellent time to start this much raved series.
3. A Lady's Lesson in Scandal by Meredith Duran

Yours To Keep (Kowalski Family, #3) by Shannon Stacey Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison A Lady's Lesson in Scandal by Meredith Duran

Jazz:

1. The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter - I read the first book in this series and I'll be continuing the series. We can do a buddy read if you like.
2. Dragon Actually by G.A. Aiken - Another series I want to start.

The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, #2) by Gena Showalter Dragon Actually (Dragon Kin, #1) by G.A. Aiken

Whew, that's it. I'm done. I hope you find some thing you can enjoy. If you don't like some of the picks, then I'd happy to do a re-pick for you. Just let me know. Happy Reading!

Caroline (pip_squeak) Shirley

Hello! I'm picking for you this month:-) I've had fun going thru your books lists!! I've added a few to mine!! Here we go!

From Your TBR List
1. Pop:
The Hunger Games I noticed that you hadn't read this yet & it is wicked, I couldn't put it down, also it is being made into a film, you might like to read it before it is released?
2. Golden Oldies:Forever Well this has been on your TBR the longest so this is the one I chose!
3. Rock:Going Down I had fun chosing this one, then I had to repick! Will explain futher along!!

From My Read List
4. Classical:
Playing Easy To Get I haven't read many books by multiple authors. One I remember is this & I noticed that you wanted to read it!
5. Country Okay, so I have read no books with either Cowgal or guys on the cover!.. My understanding of the word 'Bucolic' is that of countryside & rural life. So on that basis comes your next recommendation!!Sworn to Silence Amish setting, bloody fantastic, pardon the pun! Your understand if you chose to read it!!
6. Adult Compemporary:
Blindsighted
I love Karen Slaughter, this book will fit the mark perfectly!

7. Indie:
The Girl in the Lighthouse This author is absolutely brilliant! I haven't long read the book & it was great. Gothic style of writing a kin to Vriginnia Andrews!

Buddy Reads

message 279: by Nancy H (last edited Sep 28, 2011 11:31AM) (new)

Nancy H | 1111 comments Hi Moviemavengal,
Here is your list. For some categories, I gave you some extra choices. I hope you like them, and if not, we can keep trying:

POP: Tell Me Lies by Jennifer Crusie
(or any other Crusie book that you haven't read - I LOVE her books - they often make me laugh out loud.)
GOLDEN OLDIES: Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella (or any Kinsella on your list)
The Comforts of a Muddy Saturday by Alexander McCall Smith
ROCK: One Night Is Never Enough by Anne Mallory
Highlander Unbound by Julia London
I'm putting both of these on my tbr list - they both look really good, in addition to the good-looking covers!

CLASSICAL: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer
I loved this book and since I haven't read many with multiple authors, I decided to choose this one for this category.
COUNTRY: Montana Sky by Nora Roberts
This is an older Nora Roberts that I read recently, and loved. I thought it was going to be a typical and predictable plot, but there were some surprises.

ADULT CONTEMPORARY: Sex,Lies, and On-line Dating by Rachel Gibson
I thoroughly enjoyed this current, very hip romance.

INDIE: Julia's Chocolates by Cathy Lamb
This is one of my all-time favorite books that I think everyone should read because it is so terrific!
Two more Indie ones that I really liked:
The Art of French Kissing by Kristin Harmel and Farm Fatale by Wendy Holden

HIP HOP: Good Girls Don't by Victoria Dahl
Away in a Manger: A Very Turnip Wedding Night by Lauren Willig (or any of the Pink Carnation series that you have on your list)
I am adding both of these to my TBR list as well as the other ones in the Pink Carnation series.
JAZZ: Your Scandalous Ways by Loretta Chase
The Year of Living Scandalously by Julia London
If you would like to do any of these for a buddy read, just let me know and I will be happy to get them
and read them with you.

That's the list. I hope you can find something to your liking. If not, let me know and we can keep trying.

message 280: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments Hi Nour! I've got your picks ready!:

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop:
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning OR Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost. Both of these books are awesome!

2. Golden Oldies: The Iron King by Julie Kagawa. I've seen lots of people reading this book, so I think you should give it a shot!

3. Rock: The Fallen Omnibus, Vol 1 by Thomas E. Sniegoski or Once Bitten by Loribelle Hunt. Looks like you really enjoy Young Adult books, so there wasn't that much too choose from. I liked the second book though, why stop at one hot body? That chick on the cover looks pretty happy ;)

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical:
Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives by David Eagleman. It's not that I don't like anthologies, but I usually get them if I'm reading a series. For example, if I've finished book 3 and 3.5 is in some anthology, I'll get the book and read just the short story then move on to book #4. So I have a lot of anthologies, none of them are finished all the way through. This one was neat though, I read it last year. It was one of those books that caught my eye on the 2 for 3 table at Barnes and Nobles.

5. Country: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. One of my missions in life is to make sure that everyone I come across reads at least 1 Sarah Addison Allen book. So if you read a different one that's ok, but this one is her first and she is one of my ALL TIME favorite authors! She's currently battling breast cancer so she might not be writing another book in the near future. According to her blog, she just had her last Radiation treatment so I think she's going to recover :)

<6>Adult Contemporary: Naked in Death by J.D. Robb. Sex, murder, drugs, violence. This series has it all and has a kick-ass heroine cop! This is a HUGE series, so if you like the first one, there's plenty more where that came from!

7. Indie: White Cat by Holly Black. For a YA novel, I was actually pretty impressed by how good this one was. I like YA novels as long as the characters are not TOO innocent or naive or goody-goody. Also the main character is a guy, which was a nice change too!

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop:
Blood Bound by Rachel Vincent or Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs. Both of these books looked very intriguing and they were published this month!

9. Jazz: Glass Houses by Rachel Caine. I have this series on my Ipod so I'm looking forward to starting these!

Unfortunately, I am taking the GRE this month. If you're not familiar with it, it's a huge brain-melting 4 hour exam that's required to get a masters degree. So I won't be able to do the buddy reads, but please tell me if you liked my picks!

Extra Credit: Your Soundtrack: My favorite reading music is Dustin O’Halloran’s Piano Solos, Vol. 2. It's so relaxing, you might fall asleep while you're listening to it. It's not too distracting and adds a little ambiance to your reading. Add hot tea or cocoa to make it even more cozy!

Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa The Fallen Omnibus, Vol 1 (The Fallen, #1-2) by Thomas E. Sniegoski Once Bitten (Spellbound Moon, #1) by Loribelle Hunt Sum Forty Tales from the Afterlives by David Eagleman Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black Blood Bound (Unbound, #1) by Rachel Vincent Sweet Venom (Medusa Girls #1) by Tera Lynn Childs Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine

From Your Read Shelf I am going to read Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard - I have never read anything by her but have seen lots of messages about her books being good so I am going to give it a try

Polina (p0lit0o) | 71 comments Hi, Lexa! Here are my picks for you. I hope you'll find something you like.

From your TBR list

Pop - I had a lot of suggestions for this category but I settled for My One and Only. It is a really great book and very highly rated here as well. I think someone actually recommended it to me in a previous challenge. I couldn't be more thankful.

Golden Oldies - Well, you don't have many books that have dust on them from sitting in your to-read list so I picked one I've actually read. Water for Elephants, it has a great story and magic setting.

Rock - Covet - One word - HOT! and it is J.R. Ward, what more can you ask for? ;)

From my shelves

Classical The only book I could think of that fits the description is Beastly. It is a modern version of the classical story of Beauty and the Beast set in a high school. They actually made a movie as well. As for a book written by multiple authors, the only one I've read is Four Play.

Country - This one is easy. Long Hard Ride is the start of a great series about cowboys. I have to say that it gets hot sometimes too hot for some people's tastes.

Adult Conteporary - Slave to Sensation - it has violence, murders and sex and it is the first book of one of my absolute favorite series ever. :)

Indie - Cry No More - this book is not exactly unknown but 2,025 ratings surely isn't enough airplay. It's just such a great story, I have no words to describe it. You have to read it to understand its impact.

Buddy Reads

Hip Hop - Divergent - A very popular distopian ya book which seems to be what everyone is talking about lately.

Jazz - Hex Hall - I've been dying to read it for months.

So these were my suggestions for you. If you don't find something you like, I'll happily try again.

Great challenge as always! I LOVE the theme, happy reading everyone!!!

@Nairabell - thank you so much for the recs, I don't know what I'll pick yet but they all sound very exciting.

Edit: I'm sorry I missed the country category but I was glad I noticed it before it was too late.

Wow, Amy, that's a LOT of recommendations. And technically, I finished one already, but it doesn't count because a) it's still September and b) it was only 20 pages long. But I really enjoyedThe Road Taken today.

I have put on hold at the library:

Double Play, Dogs and Goddesses, Making Waves and Magic Bites

I will most likely try to read them in that order, so if you want to plan to read Making Wave and Magic Bites with me, it will be later in the month.

I also put a hold on Bloodlines, but I'm hold #114 on 65 copies, so I won't get that this month.

Thanks for all the great recs! I appreciate it.
