The Grave Yard Book by Neil Gaiman: I have that one, but can't bring myself to read more than the first few chapters so far. I start to cry over the beginning. :(

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen ~Classic Just picked this one up for my Nook, so definately a read for me this month.

Country: Rough Raw Ready by Lorelei James~Er I just finished the 3rd book, so I'm not sure I'll get to #5 this month, but a good rec.

Adult Contemporary: Breaking Point by Pamela Clare~CR Ohh another good one, but I'm one of those readers who has to read in order, and I've not begun book 2 yet :(.

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater ~YA/PNR This one I have on hand as well, so if you want to Buddy Read this, I'm in!

Recap Will read: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and will Buddy Read Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

I hope to get a few more in too, if I can decide which ones to read! So many of these are books I have been wanting to read - Glory in Death, Bloodfever, and Mine to Possess have be taunting me - I need to get back to those series! But I also want to start new series with Corralled, Take Me, Dragon Bound and Magic Bites too. And then there is Black HIlls that I have ignored for too long already! Seriously, how am I going to choose?! I guess I will just have to see what mood I am in when I finish the Shannon Stacey book! Thanks again! =) "

You'll definitely like the Shannon Stacey book. I might do a re-read if I could find the time but I can't :(. I'm glad that you liked the picks - too many choices in your TBR that it was difficult to limit myself to 2 or 3 choices.

Erin (erin-b) Thanks for the pick Julia. So many great choices. I wish I could read them all, but I think I'll start with 3 for now. I've heard a lot of good things about Dragon Bound so that one is first on my list. I'm also gonna try Black Gold. And if you want to do a buddy read of A Discovery of Witches I am definitely up for that. I hear it's excellent. I think I can pick up a copy in the next few days, so let me know if and when you want to start it. I'd love to read Strong Spirits too as I love books set around where I live, but my library doesn't seem to have a copy. I'll keep an eye out for it though.

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments Dee~
I'm so excited to pick for you. Since we have such similar taste I love cruising your bookshelf!! I hope I recommend something you wanna pick up this month.

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Beyond Eden- I haven't read this one yet even though it's been on my tbr list for awhile. All of my [goodreads] friends who have read it gave it 5 stars. So i'm sure it's really good.
2. Golden Oldies: Baby Love- has been on your tbr since june 2010...I think it's time to check this one out. I haven't read this one but i ♥Catherine Anderson.
3. Rock: This was a hard one! I kept looking for a cover with a guy who had a tramp stamp but alas he was not to be found =( I finally settled on Bound for the Forest cuz thats pretty sexi.

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: This was an easy one because i am such a sucker for Jennifer Crusie. I instantly thought of Don't Look Down for you.
5. Country: Star Bright is by Catherine Anderson... enough said.
6. Adult Contemporary: Claimed by the Wolf is a really great read if you wanna read about sex with supernatural beings. The plot would have been AMAZING if it wasn't for all the sex. It's like 100pages of sex with different people in amazing positions in then 20 pages of plot. I enjoyed the sex though. So... wanna read about sex? check out this book cuz it's got sex in it. get my point yet? =}
7. Indie: There are a lot of authors i'd like to plug right now but i;m going to suggest My Summer of Wes by Missy Welsh since you own it and havent read it yet.

Buddy Reads:
8.Hip Hop: Second-Guessing Fate came out a few days ago, looks interesting.
9.Jazz: i'd be down for Purge or With The Band

message 371: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (flame_2712) | 126 comments Hey Sarah!

Here are your picks! :)

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Night Pleasures by Sherrilyn Kenyon
2. Golden Oldies: The Body Finder by Kimberly Derting
3. Rock: Dangerous Highlander by Donna Grant

Night Pleasures is the first book (or 2nd if you consider Fantasy Lover to be the first) in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter Series. I absolutely adored that series and while I felt that this wasn’t the best, it was still absolutely amazing to me. The first time I read it, I didn’t love it as much. But the second time I read it, I really did love it. For The Body Finder, I thought it looked like a pretty cool book and it was added to your TBR almost 2 years ago! For Dangerous Highlander, it was the only book I could find with a guy with a hot body! Except his hair! I dunno, I don’t like guys with so long hair:P Heh, but the book does look good too!

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: I am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (James Frey and Jobie Hughes.)
5. Country: A Man to Call My Own by Johanna Lindsey
6. Adult Contemporary: Mercy by Jodi Picoult
7. Indie: Strangers by Barbara Elsborg

I read I Am Number Four last year and found it to be pretty good. The beginning is a little boring but the action at the end was simply captivating. I loved A Man to Call My Own both times I read it, and its by one of my favourite romance authors! As for Mercy, it’s my favourite Jodi Picoult. I do like the book, though I admit it gets dry at times. I just finished reading Strangers today and felt that it was a great book! The themes talked about in the book were stuff I have never really read about so it was an eye-opener. The book was written very well, even though the middle tends to get a bit boring.

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: One Night in London by Caroline Linden
9. Jazz: Intertwined by Gena Showalter

I would be interested in doing a buddy read should you want it! So I chose One Night in London as it looked pretty good and I feel its worth a try! Intertwined grabbed my attention from the moment I saw it. I don’t really read YA, but if the book’s good enough, I have no problem reading them!

Alright, so these are my picks for you! Hope you enjoy reading them the way I enjoyed picking them! :)

Night Pleasures (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon The Body Finder (The Body Finder, #1) by Kimberly Derting Dangerous Highlander (Dark Sword, #1) by Donna Grant I am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore A Man to Call My Own by Johanna Lindsey Mercy by Jodi Picoult Strangers by Barbara Elsborg One Night in London (The Truth About the Duke #1) by Caroline Linden Intertwined (Intertwined, #1) by Gena Showalter

Unfortunately I'm not first on the list so I'll have to see when it comes in. Thank you again for the picks. I have to say that is the fastest I've ever had picks in this challenge! And there is a decent variety as well. Hopefully I don't miss it when you find that elusive ninth book rec. To make sure I don't, drop me a PM if you could. Thanks again!

*edit - when I stop back in the library this weekend I'll try to pick up the Home Improvement again. I'll let you know if they have it so we can do a buddy read.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Nairabell, the library had My Favorite Witch, just not by Lisa Plumley. So I found it at the used book store last night. Since it's in my possession, just let me know when you want to do the buddy read and I'm all over it.

Sana (sanashams) Hi, Karen K.!

Wow, I had a fun time going through your huge TBR shelf.
So I really hope you like the recommendations. As for the buddy read, do let me know if you are up for it.

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
Well, I rated this one five stars because the leading characters were romantics, their emotions ran deep and they had an aura of serenity. Suffice it to say that the book is thought-provoking.

2. Golden Oldies: Never Lie to a Lady by Liz Carlyle
This seemed pretty interesting to me and I noticed that your TBR shelf isn't very old. But this book went straight to my TBR!

3. Rock: The Darkest Hour by Maya Banks
Well, apart from the hot bod, the synopsis also perked me up. I think this would be a pretty good read.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks Never Lie to a Lady (Neville Family #1) by Liz Carlyle The Darkest Hour (KGI, #1) by Maya Banks

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Click by Various Authors
I haven't read that many books with more than one author. Click is written by ten authors, but the story is so beautiful that I couldn't resist recommending it to you.

5. Country: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Again, not many books with country settings but Rebecca is a classic and should be read once by everybody. Thus, the recommendation.

6. Adult Contemporary: Lessons From a Scarlet Lady by Emma Wildes
This novel was recommended to me and it is a very, very good read. It sheds of the usual historical romance buildup because it is set after marriage.

7. Indie: Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force
I have only read this book Marie Force but I think she has a lot of potential and so I recommended it to you.

Click by Eoin Colfer Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier Lessons From a Scarlet Lady by Emma Wildes Line of Scrimmage by Marie Force

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Ripple by Mandy Hubbard
I have been meaning to get around reading this and it is pretty recent. The synopsis is very interesting.

9. Jazz: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
Well, we both have it on out TBR and I have heard such good things about the Mortal Instruments series that I just have to read this; so better late than never.

Ripple by Mandy Hubbard City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

That's it for the pick ups.
Enjoy,
Sana

Then I think I would like to pick from one of the recommendations you gave that I've never heard of before. So between these books, which would you say is your favorite?
Mark of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #1) by Diana Rowland Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green Wicked Game (WVMP Radio, #1) by Jeri Smith-Ready

And then finally I have had Succubus Blues on my TBR list for a while also. I'd love to do a buddy read of that book! I would do Demon Angel because I've read all the other books in that series, but that one is not available on eBook.

Of those four, I would say 'Mark of the Demon' was my favorite.

I'd be happy to do a buddy read of Succubus Blues. I've never done a buddy read. How does that work?

Gigi | 1149 comments Hi Jo!

I try to get recs done by the first day/next day latest, but I'm actually in Hawaii on vacay and was scrambling to pack and catch a plane on those days. Sorry for the delay. I started your list on Tuesday, but fell asleep. LOL

It was really interesting to go through your shelves. I hope I've picked something that interests you! If not, I'll be happy to pick again.

Hey everyone - Christine and I need some advice. What are suggestions for conducting a buddy read? Who has done them before and what do you feel works the best? This will be my first buddy read with Christine and I'm also doing a buddy read of Hunger Games with Leslie.

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments most of us start threads in the Dare you to read section - put the book title and the month, that way, others can join in if they want. You can structure it how you want - I think most of us just do a read at your own pace, talk about thoughts during the book

Mandy (mandypants) Create a new topic with the title of your book in the Dare You to Read thread and state that it's a buddy read for October.

Example of a buddy read from last month.

Here are your picks! This is my first time playing so I am VERY rusty!!! :) Let me know if nothing interests you.

1. Pop: Pick a book that you (or others) read and thought was a 5 star chart topper.

I picked Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . It reminded me a little of Hunger Games which I loved and saw that you had also read.

2. Golden Oldies: Pick a book that has been on their TBR list a long time.

I saw that you had added Magyk (Septimus Heap, #1) by Angie Sage about 18 months ago. I read this one to my kids and we had fun with it.

3. Rock: Pick a book that has a rockin’ hot body on the cover.

OK, this one is going to be a stretch, LOL! I don't really have any books on my shelves with covers that have hot bodies so I picked this one:

Sea by Heidi R. Kling

You can't see the guy very well on the cover, BUT in the description for the book it says he is HOT! :)

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Recommend a book written by a symphony of authors (more than one).

I found two books on my read shelf that had two authors:

I am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore and Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1) by Kami Garcia

5. Country: Recommend a book that features a cowboy/cowgirl or a book that has a bucolic setting.

I don't have many westerns on my read shelf, but I read this one and loved it.

These Is My Words by Nancy E. Turner

6. Adult Contemporary: Recommend a book with an adult theme (sex, violence, drugs, murder etc).

I read this book by Diane Chamberlain and plan to read more by her.

The Secret Life Of CeeCee Wilkes by Diane Chamberlain

7. Indie: Recommend a book by an independent author or a book you don’t think gets enough airplay.

I don't read many independent authors, but here is a couple of that I have read/heard of.

Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking

Tiger's Curse (Tiger Series, #1) by Colleen Houck - This author is not independent anymore, but when I read the book she was.

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Show that you’re hip and in the know by choosing a book that has been published within the last three months.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

I have read lots of good things about this book and can't wait to read it. I heard it has a good romance. :)

9. Jazz: Choose a book off their TBR shelf that you would be jazzed to read.

Crown Duel (Crown Duel / Court Duel) by Sherwood Smith

I have this one on my Kindle, but haven't got around to reading it yet.

I hope you can find something that interests you. Our tastes are pretty different.
