October - Pick It For Me! Challenge

After looking at your TBR list, I had some difficulties with this one, so I hope some of these are interesting enough for you to check out. Have fun and enjoy!
FROM YOUR TBR SHELF:
1. Pop: Gave you two options. One from your TBR list that I read and loved, giving it 4 stars: Bridget Jones's Diary. I also wanted to share Anna and the French Kiss with you. I loved this so much and gave it 5 stars. The characters are still with me months later.
2. Golden Oldies: I read the summary of this one and it sounded good: Odd Thomas. Since you haven't been with GR long, you nothing's been sitting very long, lucky you.
3. Rock: I did not see a lot of hot bods on your list, so I choose this one: Eighth Grade Bites. I did want to share one of my hot bods, as they should always be shared. Don't let the hunk fool you though, I really enjoyed the book too. Hotter After Midnight
FROM YOUR READ SHELF:
4. Classical: I read this awhile ago and I thought 2 of the novellas were really great Playing Easy to Get. I thought it would be an interesting introduction to the authors if you haven't already checked them out.
5. Country: Logan was modern take of the cowboy and I thought it was pretty good.
6. Adult Contemporary: Giving you two options again here. I loved both and hope you check them out. Naked in Death deals with tough detective Eve and her trials in solving murders (the male in this series is one of my all-time favorite heros). AND we're not dealing with teenage vamps in Dark Lover. I love my teenage vamps, but this series intro is over the top sexy.
7. Indie: I have much love and devotion for this indie writer and her book Seers of Light. Took me by complete surprise on how much I was captivated by it.
BUDDY READS:
8. Hip Hop: Have had Sweet Venom on my TBR list since March even though the book only came out in September. Been highly intrigued by it.
9. Jazz: Who didn't love the movie? The Princess Bride

This is my first time doing this challenge, so I hope I have this done right.
From your TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie
2. Golden Oldies: Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie (Yes, there's a theme going here, but these are both great book by a favorite author of mine.)
3. Rock: Written on Your Skin by Merideth Duran (I haven't read this, but I've read others of hers and liked them a lot - guess I need to read it.)

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Taking Care of Business by Luann McLane, Toni Blake, Patricia Ryan
5. Country: A Knight in Cowboy Boots by Suzie Quint
6. Adult Contemporary: In Your Wildest Dreams by Toni Blake
7. Indie: Getting Friendly by Moira McTark

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Stand in Wife by Karina Bliss
9. Jazz: His at Night by Sherry Thomas

I hope you find something here that works for you.
Jo

From your TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: There have been several new books I've read lately that I thought were great. The most recent that I see on your TBR shelf is Soulless by Gail Carriger. Steam punk/PNR. VERY FUNNY. And a Brit author to boot.
2. Golden Oldies: You've had the Succubus series by Richelle Mead on your TBR for the better part of two years? Why don't you give them a shot? Starts with Succubus Blues.
3. Rock: What is a hot body? All in the eye of the beholder I'm sure. But a smokin' hot series that you seem to have stopped on is the Night Huntress books. I know the Night Huntress World is technically a different series, but you will definitely want to go there before reading Cat & Bones #5. So read First Drop of Crimson already!
From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Multiple authors? One story? Sure go with Agnes and the Hitman, Dogs and Goddesses, or Good Omens. I think Good Omens is a bit dated at this point but still very funny. The other two are light contemporary romance and a light contemporary PNR.
5. Country: I'm looking for something I think you would like. I have a couple of cowboy books, but I doubt you would like them. How about a druid? That's sort of like a cowboy before there were cowboys. I think you should read Hounded. Very cool kick ass hero with a great deal of humor. If you liked any of the Dresdin books you will like this. My 18 YO son LOVED it. The ladies from my book club all gave it favorable ratings as well.
6. Adult Contemporary: Read the next Chicagoland Vampire book. It has a drug theme. It should be on your TBR list in any event. Hard Bitten has an ending that has to be read to be believed.
7. Indie: I'm not sure I know what an 'independent author' is. An author that can't be claimed as a dependent on someone else's taxes? Probably not. In any event, I see that you've been reading a fair bit of PNR lately. The best new series I've seen in that category lately is Dragon Bound. Don't let the crap cover throw you. Cover to cover action and more than enough fun and sex to go around.
Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Most of the books published in the last three months that I've wanted to read, I've already read. However, I saw a new Victoria Dahl book I picked up the other day. Haven't read it yet and am willing to wait if you'd like me to. Good Girls Don't was published Aug 30th.
9. Jazz: Lot's of books here I'd like to read. however, I recently read a Lisa Plumley and liked it and think I saw this in my library. So perhaps I'll give My Favorite Witch a go with you.
As usual, if there's nothing here for you to work with, let me know and I'll give it another go.

I had fun going through your tbr shelf. I hope you find something you like, if not, I would be happy to choose again :)
1. Pop- Darkfever- love this whole series! or..."
I loved every single one of your picks, Fran! I'm going to have such a hard time choosing which one to read first! I'll think about it and let you know :)
As for the buddy read, I'd love to read 50 Shades Darker with you (even because the whole series is my addiction), but unfortunately, I think my book will arrive only in November (I don't live in US). Daughter of Smoke and Bone got my attention, though, so if you decide that you want to read it, just tell me.
Thanks for the wonderful picks!

Here are my picks for you!!
From Your TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips - Definitely a chart topper, one of my personal favorites!
2. Golden Oldies:Dark Lover by J.R. Ward - all the hype about this series....its true! Totally amazing alpha heroes! If you like how that sounds, definitely go for it :D
3. Rock: No Place to Run by Maya Banks - HOT body >:)

From MY Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresley Cole - sorry if this is between a series, but the Immortals After Dark series are definitely worth your while. You should check them out ASAP, I basically hands down love them all :)
5. Country: Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath - Absolutely beautiful, 'nough said :)
6. Adult Contemporary: Coming Undone by Lauren Dane - I see that you've read the first book, this second one for me is better (no menages :p ), the brown siblings are one cool pack
7. Indie: Beautiful Disaster - I love this one, mature YA since there's tattoos, sex...in the story. *sigh Travis <3

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks - Released Aug. 30,2011 - So much hyped on this one too, i'm excited to read it
9. Jazz: Unlawful Contact by Pamela Clare, I've been putting this on hold for awhile now, can't wait to pick this up again. :D

I would be so willing to do buddy reads with you, just let me know...and if you need more picks, don't hesitate to ask :)
![Michelle [Helen Geek] (michelle_reads_to_relax) | 63 comments](https://images.gr-assets.com/users/1448463806p1/5557851.jpg)
Pop - JR Ward - Lover Mine
Golden Oldies - Kresley Cole - Dark Desires After Dusk [added to your TBR 03/17/2009]. Both of these books are some of the best in their respective series. Each would make an awesome read.
Rock - Going Greek - Lelani Black [WOW cover!]
Classical - Bad Boys of Summmer [Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy, et. al]
Country - Pamela Morsi - Red's Hot Honky-Tonk Bar [really not what you expect, but a cowgirl on the cover]
Adult Contemporary - Erin McCarthy - Flat Out Sexy
Indie - S. C. Stephens - Thoughtless [read this the other day and is GREAT - may have to find on Feedbooks]
Buddy
Hip Hop - Sandra Brown - Lethal [brand new and would love to give this a try].
Jazz - Lisa Valdez - Passion [on my TBR pile too and have heard good things about it].
Hope you enjoy at least one of these! Michelle

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione – Hands down this has to be one of my absolute favorite books! I read it in a day and loved every second of it! Definitely a must read!
2. Golden Oldies: A Vampire's Claim by Joey W. Hill – I haven’t read this series, but reading the synopsis for this one, it looks very interesting to me.
3. Rock: Treasured by Crystal Jordan – I was just looking through your TBR pile and this one just caught my eye. Really couldn’t stop staring at so I figured this was it. ^_^
From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Riding the Storm by Sydney Croft – For some reason this book just jumped out at me from the first time I saw it. I really liked the synopsis too. It’s written by Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler.
5. Country: Caleb by Sarah McCarty – I really like the idea for this one cause it’s like…a cowboy vampire or something like that. Definitely caught my interest!
6. Adult Contemporary: I’ve got 2 for this one, both from the same series/author. One of my absolute favorites! Either Hard Evidence or Breaking Point by Pamela Clare. They are books 2 and 5 in the series, but still very good!
7. Indie: Wild Heat by Bella Andre – It took me a while to grab this one from my TBR pile, but once I started it, I couldn’t put it down. I don’t see a lot of recommendations for this book, but I enjoyed it a lot!
Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Forged in Fire by Trish McCallan – This was a tough one, a lot of books I’d love to read were in the middle of a series, and I don’t know about you, but I like reading books in order. So instead of you jumping into the middle, this one had caught my eye a little bit back. Looks interesting enough to me.
9. Jazz: Something About You by Julie James – I’ve heard a bit about this author and wanted to give one of her books a try. Plus I like that fact it includes my hometown. XD

Here are my picks for you:
1. Pop - Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark is one of my top favorite series. I see that you have the first book, A Hunger Like No Other on your TBR. But be sure to read the novella The Warlord Wants Forever before starting. Here is a link to a free download: Free Novella Link
2. Golden Oldies - One of the oldest book in your TBR is Eternal Hunter. I enjoyed all Cynthia Eden's books that I have read, and highly recommend her as an author.
3. Rock - Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione. I have not read this book, but I'm a fan of her Demonica series.
4. Classical - On the Edge by Ilona Andrews (a husband-and-wife writing team).
5. Country - Cry No More by Linda Howard. The hero might not be a typical cowboy, but he reminds me of those heroic gunslingers of the past. Despite the title, be prepared with tissues for this one.
6. Adult Contemporary - Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie. I could not believe how much fun this book is.
7, Indie - At the Bride Hunt Ball by Olivia Parker. A pleasant surprise for me, and hopefully for you.
8. Hip-Hop - Divergent by Veronica Roth. This book has been recommended to me so many times. So maybe its time to see what the fuss is all about.
9. Jazz - A Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare. I have this on my TBR and I saw it in yours. Sounds like a good excuse to read it.
Hopefully you find something that interest you among my picks.
Happy reading!

I am excited to be picking for you. I just finished driving home from the beach and I am totally exhausted. I want to be fully awake and aware so I can give you good choices, so I will do them for you as soon as I can tomorrow! I already have some ideas for you.

I had fun going through your tbr shelf. I hope you find something you like, if not, I would be happy to choose again :)
1. Pop- Darkfever- love this who..."
I'm so glad you liked my picks Larissa!! I checked and my library doesn't have a copy of Daughter of Smoke and Bone yet. If they get one in this month I will let you know, I would love to read it with you.

So, apparently, I'll be reading Seduced by A Stranger, Sins of the Heart, and Goddess of the Hunt.
All of the buddy reads look fantastic. If you want to pick one, I'll physically go to the store and buy it. *Sigh.* ;-) Just let me know.

I tried to give you a wide variety of choices. I know how it is to be "in the mood" for a certain book. So I hope you find something that tickles your fancy. :)
FROM YOUR TBR SHELF:
1) PO..."
Wow, Julie thanks so much for the great picks!! I am going to look through them a little more....but for now I will read Halfway to the Grave and/or Giving Chase !! Thanks again!
Karenf,
Your picks will be up tomorrow!! :)

Sorry, Catherine. Signups closed this afternoon. But, there's always a new Pick It For Me challenge each month.

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop: Pick a book that you (or others) read and thought was a 5 star chart topper. I picked

2. Golden Oldies: Pick a book that has been on their TBR list a long time.

3. Rock: Pick a book that has a rockin’ hot body on the cover.

From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Recommend a book written by a symphony of authors (more than one).

5. Country: Recommend a book that features a cowboy/cowgirl or a book that has a bucolic setting.

6. Adult Contemporary: Recommend a book with an adult theme (sex, violence, drugs, murder etc).

7. Indie: Recommend a book by an independent author or a book you don’t think gets enough airplay.

Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop: Show that you’re hip and in the know by choosing a book that has been published within the last three months.

9. Jazz: Choose a book off their TBR shelf that you would be jazzed to read.

From Your TBR Shelf:
1. Pop There wasn't a lot on your TRB that I rated 5 stars, but when I saw this one I knew I had my pick! Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning - one of my favorite books of all time! I just fell in love with Drustan ~sigh~ Seriously one of the most romantic books I have ever read! (I am usually a real stickler for reading books in order this series is an exception. You can easily start with this one and move on to read the next two without reading the first three.)
2. Golden Oldies: The Donovan Legacy: Captivated & Entranced by Nora Roberts has been on your TBR for a long time. I haven't read these stories in ages, but I remember I loved them. You can't go wrong with Nora, even the old ones!
3. Rock:

From My Read Shelf:
4. Classical: Caught Running by Madeleine Urban and Abigail Roux. This book is very sweet, I enjoyed it a lot! It is a M/M story though, not sure if that is something you might be interested in. If you want to give that a try, this is a good one to start with.
5. Country: This is another recommendation that might be outside of your comfort zone, but maybe you are just looking for someone to corrupt you a little! =) Cowgirl Up and Ride by Lorelei James is actually the third book in the series and the first I gave 5 stars to. You could start with the first, but I don't think you miss much be starting here.
6. Adult Contemporary: Here I would have recommended The Darkest Hour, since it has it all - sex, drugs, violence and murder, but you've already read it. So, where to go but to the next book in the series! No Place to Run by Maya Banks is just as good as the first! For a different type of story how about Flat-Out Sexy by Erin McCarthy? It has fast cars and a great love story! How the hero falls for the heroine... wow!
7. Indie: I saw you've read Out Of Her League and liked it, so for this category I would like to recommend Cover of Darkness (Suspense Series, #2) by Kaylea Cross. I read it earlier this month and really enjoyed it! Another option here could be Do Over by Mari Carr. It is a very sweet story about a couple celebrating their 25th anniversary and remembering all the reasons they fell in love in the first place.
Buddy Reads: I will only be available to do a buddy read if we do it in the first part of the month as I am having surgery on the 24th.
8. Hip Hop: I noticed that you have read several of the Arcane books by Krentz/Quick/Castle and I am planning to read the latest, Canyons of Night by Jayne Castle about the middle of the month if you want to join me!
9. Jazz: I would be happy to read either Too Hot To Touch by Louisa Edwards or Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis with you!

- never done a buddy read before - but if I can get hold of either of them for my kindle would you be keen? (Being in NZ it seems a little harder to get them as some publishers don't like releasing them for us as quickly as US etc)
Definitely reading The Unbearable Lightness of Dragons as I just finished the first in the series, recommended in the September pick it for me and loved it!

Due to some commitments over the next couple of days, I won't be able to do your picks until Friday. I promise I will do it Friday, Saturday at the latest. Thanks for your patience.

- never done a buddy read before - but if I can get hold of either of them for my kindle would you be keen? (Being in NZ it seems a little harder to get them as some publishers don't..."
I'm keen for both. Don't worry we get things later here in Canada to :) I already have

Just the motivation that I needed! I just watched the trailer for One For the Money yesterday and it looks so cute! I am definately picking this one to read this month. Plus I added about four of your recs to my wishlist. Thanks for your picks!
Lacy

***squeee****** Mandy, you did an AMAZING job with my picks!! thank you, thank you!! :D.
Aye, im a contradiction of all sorts hehe!, and it was funny that i go through periods where my mind craves non fiction asap! such as time is now, and you had just the perfect books! I will let you know what books im down for later, is that ok?
ps: Love the selection of songs, specially Marvin, and lets get it on! hehe made me laugh tons! xxxxx
Penney: I totally forgot that the close ups were today instead of tomorrow! :s. Will have your picks by first thing tomorrow!!! im heading to your shelves right now Missy!

From Their TBR Shelf:
1. Pop:

Found this in your shelf but wasn't sure if you read it or not since it looks like you rated it five stars? If so let me know and I'll pick something else. But City of Bones was definately one of my favorite books of the series. I loved Clare and the nephilim you will love it.
2. Golden Oldies:

Again I've never read this but its by Richelle Mead author of the VA series. You've had it on your to read shelves since Oct 1 2010. Seriously it looks really steamy and good =) Adding this to my list actually. Its about a succubus how cool is that?
3. Rock:

Again never read this book. Seduced by Shadows by Jessa Slade but it looks really good. Besides its got a hot guy on the cover whas not to love?
From Your Read Shelf:
4. Classical:

Collection of short stories from different authors. All Fantasy/Sci Fi and romance added up into one bundle. Honestly Firebirds brings about really good authors even if you are not into YA books. A good read.
5. Country:

A non-ya book focusing on romance, violence, betrayal and yummy hot cowboys. Seriously, I'm not even into western-type themes or romance stories and I was impressed. It's steamy, thrilling, and the plotline behind it was actually pretty well written. I know you will like this one based on your bookshelves <3
6. Adult Contemporary:

Divine by Mistake by P.C Cast. I seriously loved this series!! Fantasy with a VERY adult twist. Goddess. Hot centaur loving man. Magic. Destiny. All wrapped into one. One of my favorite series that holds nothing back. Great love story and you really feel for all the characters, I'm in love with it.
7. Indie:

I adore this book. Tanith Lee is somewhat known however this book is not although I don't know why. It's my favorite she ever did, I loved the entire series and couldn't put it down. It's definately at one of my top favorites because of the world and the romance and BETRAYAL that goes on here. It was a book that changed me for sure.
Buddy Reads:
8. Hip Hop:

Second installment of the Firelight series. Two words, Dragon love. How cool? I've always been a big fan of dragons and their ways. Good series although I love the first one better.
9. Jazz:

I've read good things about this series. Infact it's like VA, I avoided it for awhile but now really I want to see what the hypes about. Especially since its another vampire story and I've been so sick of those lately however...a good story is a good story. I'm REALLY curious about this one.
Books:

In fact...Michelle please forgive me. I've gone through your shelves, had lots of fun and made my choices. But I can't use my computer tonight and just the thought of tapping all that out on my iPad makes my eyes burn and my lids extra heavy. I'll have it ready for you bright and early in the am. I promise :)

Here are my pics for you!
From tour TBR shelf:
1) POP - "Whitney, my love" by Judith McNaught
2) GOLDEN OLDIES - "La sombra del viento" by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (I've read this book in italian and found it great! I'm sure in spanish will be even better)
3) ROCK - "Ravished by a Highlander" by Pamela Quinn
From my read shelf:
4) CLASSIC - I don't read usually antologies, so I've chosen a real classic, "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte
5) COUNTRY - I've decided for a bucolic setting in "My dearest enemy" by Connie Brockway
6) ADULT - "Ritual Sins" by Anne Stuart or "Faking it" by Elisa Lorello (the first one is a really dark book, but I've found it great and so unic, the second one is really emotional)
7) INDIE - "Last summer" by Theresa Weir (this is an old and not so well known great book!)
Buddy Reads
8) HIP HOP - "A night to surrender" by Tessa Dare (I'm reading it now and it's really great!)
9) JAZZ - "Wicked Burn" by Beth Kery (I've heard great things)
Hope you'll find something interesting!
Bye,
Ana

I'm definitely up for a buddy read of My Favorite Witch, as long as we can schedule it towards the end of the month?

I enjoyed looking through your book selves. There were many books on there that I have never read, so it was interesting. I tried to pick books in accordance with your tastes, so I hope you find something that you like!

I would be happy to read both or either of these books this month. Just let me know it you want to make it a buddy read!

Sorry, I kept you waiting... I hate the few days after the pairings until I receive my recs so here are yours. Hope you can find somethings you like, if not please let me know and I will try again. And you have a pretty good Read/TBR shelves there that contributed my shelves as if they needed anymore help! :)
From Your TBR Shelf :
1.Pop : One Day by David Nicholls - I love and love this book, it affected me deeply and stayed with me.It is so realistic, so just like it could be your life.
Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward - I noticed you have read some of the books in the series and rated high enough for me to assume you enjoyed them. So you might give this one a try, eventhough I can't say I am a Zadist fan, I still liked the book a lot.
2.Golden Oldies : Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers - I haven't read this one, added to my TBR however. You have it in your TBR long enough.
Rescue Me by Scarlett Blackwell - You enjoy M/M romance -and I added quite a few in my TBR from your those- this one was one of the first books you have added to your TBR as M/M to read so maybe it's time to read it.
3.Rock : Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione - haven't read this one either but the body is definitely hot and the comments are worth giving it a try.
The Dom's Dungeon by Cherise Sinclair - Well if I was a guy this might be a hot body as well :D I don't know about it for sure but the ratings and the comments about this book made me believe it deserves a chance. I can even go buddy read this one.
From My Read Shelf :
4.Classical : Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan - I have read this a few months ago and enjoyed it, I am not sure if it's your usual cup of tea but well need to try something different sometimes.
Cut & Run by Madeleine Urban & Abigail Roux - I have just finished this one and really liked Ty and Zane, looking forward to read next in the series.
5.Country : Linger by Maya Banks - I saw that you are familiar with her work, so as this one is suitable for the category you might wanna try
Corralled by Lorelei James - Haven't read it but it's just the right book for this line :)
6.Adult Contemporary : Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James - I loved this book, it has every adult content in it with a good character development and a story line. Just Ana can be a bit annoying at times but you can bear it for sure ;)
7.Indie : Vince by JM Snyder - I am not very familiar with Indie Authors but read this as a recommendation from a friend a few months ago and quite loved it, a bit dark but a good, strong story. I think you are already familiar with Snyder's work anyway.
Buddy Reads :
8.Hip hop : One Grave at a Time by Jeanniene Frost - I am about to read the fifth in the series so I will be ready to go for this one in about a week or so if you are interested.
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - I have read one book from her and liked it so might give this a try.
9.Caught Running by Madeleine Urban - After Cut&Run, Madeleine and Abigail have become an author I'd like to read more so here is my chance.
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick - we both have this in our TBR for so long maybe it's time to read already.
Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan - After reading Nick & Norah's... I have been wanting to read this one from the same author, interested?
So yes, I believe I have to stop writing more as this became like an essay :) too long for my own good.
Happy readings...

I'll get to work tracking this down. I'll let you know when I find it. Like I said, I'm pretty sure my library has this but I've been wrong before.

Thanks for the list KJ! You did find some books on my shelf that I've been meaning to read for ages. All off the recs looks good, but I have already read Dark Lover. (I found some mistakes on my shelves the other day, and it looks like I need to go through them all again). If you haven't read Ward's series, definitely give it a shot. It took me a while to get into the first book, but it's a series worth reading. I've never tried a buddy read, but let me know if you want to give it a shot. Thanks again!

1. POP: I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak- I saw that you liked The Book Thief and I think this book is even better.
