I am sorry to be posting so much tonight but I have honestly finished a whole bunch of tasks in our car driving to visit out of state this weekend and sitting in pubs listening to my son play drums with his band and read till 1:30! I love it!!!!

10.7 My Favorite Things
A cozy mystery set in Virginia featuring 2 of my favorite things - wine and the garden designs of Frederick Law Olmstead - The Viognier Vendetta by Ellen Crosby. She is a wonderful woman, great speaker and a Good Reads Author.

15.4 Opposite Day
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. Best book I read for the Winter Challenge!

Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak
This is the classic Russian Revolution and World War I book. Loved it for the 3rd time in 40 years.

30.2 Delicious Dee's Task - Looking For A Few Good Authors
James Michener is my favorite and I hold Chesapeake near and dear to my heart. I chose William Martin and his book Annapolis. To keep the Chesapeake theme going for my setting book I readJacob Have I Loved by Katherine Paterson. This also fills in another tick on my Newbery list.

30.7 Emily Kate's Task - Forever Young - This was my favorite task, even though to get to 800 pages I had to read 4 books and check quite a few requirements!

A. Stand Alone Book - Non Fiction - 13/14 Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. My copy is from the early 60's and has 308 pages, not listed in the goodreads list.
B. Part of a Series - Romance - 18/19 - Anne of The Island by L.M. Montgomery. Book 3 in the Anne of Green Gables Series.
C. Coming Of Age - 14 - The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. This book cme out in 1974 just after I graduated from an all girl Catholic High School that sold World's Finest and hated that month with a passion! It has taken me till now to be able to read the book. Jerry learns to stand up for himself as he refuses to sell and goes against the faculty and student Vigils.

Rach (rachlovestv) | 261 comments Here are my last 2 tasks for the challenge!

20.5. Larger Than Life

The Falcon at the Portal by Elizabeth Peters

For those who've never read any of the books in the Amelia Peabody series, Amelia is a woman who is certainly larger than life - in a era (turn of the 1900s) where women weren't considered the equals of men, Amelia insisted on being given respect as an Egyptologist, and often broke from tradition, wearing pants while on their excavation site. Scandalous! :)

30.7. Forever Young

Book 1: Misguided Angel by Melissa de la Cruz - series/paranormal (256 pages) - Considered YA because the main characters are high school age (16-17), paranormal because they are also vampires

Book 2: Heist Society by Ally Carter - series/mystery/suspense (287 pages) - Considered YA because the protagonist (Kat) is 15, mystery because she is trying to figure out who really stole paintings her father is being blamed for and clear his name

Book 3: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver - stand alone/coming of age (341) - Considered YA because the protagonist (Sam) is a high school student, coming of age because she has to examine what's important in her life and make tough choices about her future and what she can do to positively effect others before she goes.

I've had to rearrange some of my books (from tasks with multiple books that I didn't complete the other half of) to other tasks. Happily, the only switch from a task I've already posted is the first one. The others are straightforward, new posts.

I am moving "Kim" by Rudyard Kipling from 10.02 to

5.02 SINGLES AWARENESS DAY

"Kim" by Rudyard Kipling

My NEW 10.02 book is:

10.02 ORIENT EXPRESS

"Celebrated Cases of Judge Dee (Dee Goong An)", translated by Robert Hans van Gulik from an unknown Chinese author (set in China)

The rest of these are straightforward.

10.07 MY FAVORITE THINGS

"Catching Fire", Suzanne Collins (genre is "Teen")

10.10 TOP TEN LISTS

"The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" Agatha Christie (John Curran: Top 10 Agatha Christie mysteries)

20.06 THE TWENTY-TENS

"The Double Comfort Safari Club" Alexander McCall Smith (Grace Makutsi is in her 30s)

Alexander McCall Smith is a GOODREADS AUTHOR

20.07 CHRISTMAS FUZZIES...OR NOT

"The Christmas Box" Richard Paul Evans (I cried during this book--the death of one of the characters and its effect on another was hard for me to handle even thinking about)

30.06 LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD…AUTHORS

4) "Seabiscuit: An American Legend" Laura Hillenbrand (Laura Ingalls Wilder)

AND

5) "Doctor Zhivago" Boris Pasternak (originally pub. 1957, Laura Ingalls Wilder died that year)
