I read the shortest book on my TBR list - 112 pages -

25.2 Thank You Moderators
A. Sandy's list: The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
B. Kristi's list: Sanctuary by Nora Roberts
I really like The Unit- I've passed it on to some friends.
25.4 IMBOLC
A. The Red-Haired Girl from the Bog: The Landscape of Celtic Myth and Spirit by Patricia Monaghan
B. flames on cover
Three Seconds by Anders Roslund
The Red-Haired Girl got a bit tedious. The myth parts were good, but Monaghan found an awful lot of meaning in the mundane. Three Seconds was well balanced- good action with lots of character development
30.5 Old & New
A. Old: The Distance Between Us by Masha Hamilton
B. New: Paris to the Moon by Adam Gopnik
I had read Hamilton's Staircase of a Thousand Steps and liked it. I liked The Distance Between Us even more- a beautifully written exploration of loss and grief set in the MIddle East. Nancy Pearl's book Book Lust To Go: Recommended Reading for Travelers, Vagabonds, and Dreamers listed Paris to the Moon as a great book about Paris culture- it was!
30.8 In the Spirit of the Season -ASIA
A. rolled a 4: added in the last 6 months: Raising the Perfect Child Through Guilt and Manipulation by Elizabeth Beckwith
B. rolled a 5: dying to read: The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey
Raising the Perfect Child was laugh-out-loud funny at times.
The Sound of a Wild Snail eating was beautiful- insightful, poetic (with poetry by Elizabeth Bishop- a favorite of mine), scientific, and touching.
