Backwards and Forwards: A Technical Manual for Reading Plays by David Ball
I read this for a class several years ago and enjoyed it and found it useful. It sounds boring but it's well-written so it's actually a fun read (well, as fun as a technical manual can be). I re-read it recently in preparation for teaching my own class on the same subject. I'm sure I'll re-read it several more times in the future!

15.2 Stars and Stripes Forever:
A) Name of State on cover Heaven, Texas - Susan Elizabeth Phillips READ 07/28
B) Setting in one of the colonies: GA Scream For Me - Karen RoseREAD 06/14
15.3 Books and Blogs: The Book Smugglers : Something About You - Julie James READ 08/03
I didn't think I'd enjoy this as much as I did, especially considering that I didn't think the plot was extraordinary:-) But the characters were well written, and the chemistry between hero and heroine was great:-) I loved the banter, which was light and fun.. 4.5-5 stars:-)
15.4 Learn your numbers
- author with same number: 5 - Julie Garwood Honor's Splendour READ 06/20
- heroine with the same characteristics: sense of adventure: All the Queen's Men 06/20
I would consider myself adventurous, seeing as I'm game to try practically anything: diving with sharks and at night, swimming in fjords filled with orcas, skydiving (planned for September! yay!), horseback riding in the African savannah, skiing down the second highest peak in Switzerland (with crevasses galore),camping in the snow (I said I'll try everything, not that I like it, lol!),... I figure this is the only time in my life when I don't have the responsibility of family and when I can enjoy trying new things..
15.8 Double double, toil and trouble: Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell READ 08/27, and Untamed by Emma Wildes READ 06/27
15.9 “He Who Knows Others Is Wise. He Who Knows Himself Is Enlightened.” - Lao Tzu
The Maverick - Diana Palmer READ 07/16
The hero in this book wants to break away from familial obligations and find himself, which in his case means being a cop, but raising hell every so often: As my parents can attest, that's a pretty good reflection of who I am these days, including the fact that I'm going into Criminal Justice:-)
15.10 Family/sister/brother/cousin,etc in title Son of the Morning 08/05
My family and I are very close: my brother, sister and I were raised knowing that we could always count on one another and our parents: my sister is my best friend, and my brother is a younger male version of myself.. I consider myself lucky to have been born in such a close and open-minded family..

20.6 Must Read List : Lord of the Fading Lands - C.L. Wilson 08/21 (and 402 p)
This, for me, is a must-read: It's the first book of the Tairen Soul series, a wonderful blend of fantasy and romance, magic and evil that will have your emotions swinging every which way... Anyone who enjoys great epic fantasy (there are five books) and soulmate romance should try this book..
20.7 For those we love to hate : Letters to Erik: The Ghost's Love Story 07/08

25.3 Virtual Foreign Vacation :

B) The Legend of the Holy Drinker by Joseph Roth (originally in German) 08/30
25.5 Share the Summer Love:
A) The Darkest Passion - Gena Showlalter 08/16
One of my favorite series, and although not my favorite in the group, I did enjoy Aeron very much (Olivia was just a tad too nice for my tastes..), and Legion was hilarious:-)
PNR is my favorite genre, because of the unrealistic nature of the storyline: I have a great imagination, and enjoy being immersed in an alternate world/universe where good triumphs over evil (which is usually clearly defined): studying criminal justice is hard on the mind, and PNR helps me stay sane:-)
B) Tempt Me at Twilight - Lisa Kleypas 08/25
A very funny LK read: All her books are great, and of the Hathaways, I think this is my favorite: Poppy is the sweet and lonely sister who meets the tormented and ruthless hero.. who, btw, is droolworthy:-)
My second (or tied for first place) favorite genre is historical romance.. Mainly for the same reasons: Although the past wasn't always an easy place to live in (I couldn't imagine living without tampons, hot showers and Elvis Presley for example, lol), I can imagine white knights and gorgeous dresses, and true love triumphing over evil:-) I think I enjoy it because the evil back then was pretty straightforwards: the majority of crimes/problems today (terrorism, stalking, gang wars,...) were practically non-existent before gunpowder and internet were invented:-)
25.6 Summer Loving : song whose lyrics/topic are the same/similar as the title This Heart of Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips 08/20 and This Heart of Mine by Jason Castro: my bf surprised me with a gorgeous (non-engagement) ring for my birthday, by the pool on a beautiful summer evening, while this song was playing... It's a great memory, and I love this song:-)

A. Contemporary fiction: Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah I like this genre because it's about relevant situations that are currently happening in a lot of people's lives. I didn't end up liking this book very much; I found it slow and I didn't care for the characters. I typically like Kristin Hannah books but this one was disappointing for me.
B. Cozy mystery: Cherry Cheesecake Murder by Joanne Fluke. I like the cozy mystery genre because it's a nice bit of cornball utopia! As with the previous 7 books in this series, I enjoyed it and can't wait to read #9. I do find it a bit hard to believe that any woman could turn down 2 men's marriage proposals and not experience any hostility in return from them. Hannah Swensen must really be a charmer! I already have the next in the series downloaded and ready to rock...if a cozy mystery can "rock", and I, for one, believe it can. :) Fun challenge, Helen! +25 points

25.5 Helen's Task Share the Summer Love
My favorite genre is mystery. I enjoy mysteries because I like trying to solve the crimes but I especially like the back stories of the detectives/coroners/private eyes who are doing the solving. I read Broken by Karin Slaughter. This book was excellent but is not for the faint of heart. It brings together characters from Slaughter's two series and moves all the stories forward all the while with a good, brutal mystery. Slaughter writes very flawed, but realistic characters.
My second favorite genre is Books about Books. I like to read anything having to do with books - magazines, book reviews, etc. Sometimes I think I like reading ABOUT books as much as I like reading books themselves which is why I'm currently enrolled in a Master's of Library Science program. This book was not exactly what I thought since it was a series of essays that the author had previously published. Some essays were laugh out loud funny since I recognized myself and my family in them. Others were only okay but overall I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes books, grammer, nerdy family stories.
This is my last post for the Summer and I'll be finishing up with 360 points. See you in a few days in the Fall!

Fantasy is my favorite genre by far because of how original and creative an author can be, and how each story is always different. This book (the second in a series) was one of the best fantasies I had read in a while.
B. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (Literary Fiction)
A close second for my favorite genre is literary fiction, because I love to get lost in the depth of a story and the depth of characters in particular. This book was great because the historical elements brought the characters that much more to life.

10.8 Under The Sea
The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera
This is amazing - don't be put off by anyone telling you it's YA or fantasy - it isn't in my opinion. It has a child main character but I think it's YA in the same way that To Kill a Mockingbird is 'YA'. And it's based on Maori legends, so not a 'fantasy' book but an insight into the richness that is Maori culture. Give it a try!
20.2 Kiri's Task - A Trip To The Past
The Last Kingdom by Bernard Cornwell
Set in the 9th century. And this was excellent too - better than his Sharpe novels.

In this book, the main character, Jenny, is nice to and liked by everyone, is trusted by her high school's faculty and staff, is a good student, and writes for the school newspaper—she does the Dear-Abby-like column. She knows a lot of people's problems and tries, anonymously, to help them. But as much as she THINKS she knows and is aware of, she comes to understand (through re-analyzing situations through a fresh perspective) the influential role she really have at her school.
