I wouldn't recommend that anyone else add this to their must read list. It was only mildly entertaining.
25.5 - Helen's Task - Share the Summer Love
A. One from your favorite genre/type.
B. One from your second favorite genre/type.
A.An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon {historical fiction} - I love reading books that incorporate actual historical events - and this presented a whole new side of the American Revolution that I hadn't ever considered.
B.McKettricks of Texas: Austin by Linda Lael Miller {Cowboy Romance} - I may have been an English major in college, but I definitely love some romance novels, especially if they feature cowboys (who doesn't love cowboys?). Unfortunately, this one seemed a little a light on the cowboy and a little too heavy on the romance.

15.4 - Numerology - author with same number - 11 - JK Rowling - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and book that displays characteristic - mine is dreamer and I read Wake - Wake is about a girl who can see into people's dreams and so this corresponded with my charactersitic is dreamer.
25.5 - Favorite genre - Young Adult - Fade - I think my genres rotate throughout the seasons but in the summer there is nothing like flying through YA books. They are fun to read and this series I just got into and was interested in finishing out the series. The main character can see into people's dreams and each book has her entangled into different scenarios. It is a fun, quick series.
2nd favorite genre - books made into movies - Charlie St. Cloud - I always make a point to read the book before the movie and for some reason I am sooooo tempted to see every movie that was originally a book!! Recently I have read Push, Shutter Island and now Charlie St. Cloud solely so I can go see the movie. I have yet to go see Charlie St. Cloud but I found the premise of the book to be a bit too far fethced. WHile I know it is a work of fiction it was just a bit tooo extreme of a plot for my taste.

10.3 Same Place, Same Time
I read City of Bones by Cassandra Clare for this task.
20.2 Before 1450 AD
I read So Speaks the Heart by Johanna Lindsey for this task. It takes place in 972 AD.
City of Bones was a really interesting book. I really enjoyed listening to it in the car while I was driving. The hard part is stopping it to go inside when you get to work or get home. :-)
I liked the character development. The plot was interesting. And while I had some things figured out before the end, there were a couple of complete surprises for me also. That always makes it more fun.
I am excited to get the next book in the series.
So Speaks the Heart is one of my favorite novels by Johanna Lindsey. I loved reading it again. Historical Romance used to be one of my favorite genres. I like the paranormal stuff better now.
Adding these 30 points to my total gives me 195 points. Looks like I might make it to my 200 point goal after all. LOL

My favorite ice cream is strawberry with hot fudge and chocolate sprinkles (Yum!), so I read Strawberry Bank; Or, Home From India. by the Author of 'busy Bee'. by Miss Whittemore. It was awful, but had me thinking of ice cream! One thing to note on this book- GR says it's only 114 pages, but the version I read was 346.

My goal was 20 tasks... so I made it.

Read The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor and Seeing Redd by Frank Beddor two of a series in a trilogy about the updates story of Alyss in Wonderland... Great series!

25.7 I'm Passionate About ORGANIZING: After 21 years of moving with my Military spouse, I am settled in my own house and have unpacked EVERY box I could get my hands on. I have been in htis house 6 years, seems like a century but I finally had space, and time (no work). For 6 months it was like Christmas every day as I found old clothes, projects my children had done, books I was sure were lost, a family tree I did in college that a cousin has been asking me about for years, toys and even junk. It was wonderful, now many, many trips to Goodwill later, my P-Touch is my best friend and I have a pantry that I can find the 7 cans of cannellini beans I bought because I kept loosing them and finally make my gazpacho!
So in honor of all of this I would Like to thank Martha Stewart for Good Things for Organizing. 137 pages of great ideas and photos.
Also Iris Karas forOrganizing Elizabeth, a novel.
The first page just made me smile and see myself the way I am sure grocery store checkers do - compulsive about how things are placed on the belt for bagging. Just fun for me! 217 pages of smiles.
This was my favorite challenge by far! Thank you!!!

25.5 - Helen's Task - Share the Summer Love
A. My favorite genre is romance, so I read Blithe Images by Nora Roberts
I found this book to be a bit slower than some of Nora Roberts' other books. I'd give it 3 stars, but it's certainly not one of my favorites by her. She definitely had great imagery throughout the book though, and you could really see what was being photographed throughout the story (the main character is a down to earth model).
This is my favorite genre because it allows me to dream. I am a hopeless romantic, and it just gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling to read about two people falling in love.
B. My second favorite genre is young adult, so I read The Emperor's Code by Gordon Korman
I did not like this book as much as I had liked some of the other 39 clues books. I found it was more difficult to follow, and it was also more difficult to try to piece together the mystery and try to solve the clue from the reader's perspective (in my opinion). It was still a good book, but I just don't feel that it is in the same league as some of the others in the series.
I enjoy this genre because it can be an escape from adult life. Sometimes in the young adult books the problems can seem so trivial that it's refreshing not to really think about anything complicated. I find that this particular series makes me think in a good way. The other thing that I enjoy about this genre is that it helps me to stay connected with my students. I teach 6th grade, and I always find it interesting to see what they're reading and to be able to discuss it with them.

30.2: For the Children
Part A: Children's classic book: Black Beauty by Anna Sewell. This book was published in 1877. It is a book given to me from my Godfather and that I plan to hand down to my Godchild and/or to my own children.
Part B: Child is the main character: Beyond the Grave by Jude Watson. The main characters in this book are Dan (age 11) and Amy (age 14) Cahill who are under the care of their Au Pair Nelle.
Total: 145

10.6 Stand Up For Your Rights: At Risk by Alice Hoffman.
This book is about a girl, Amanda, who was given a blood transfusion back when they did not check to see if the blood was contaminated. She contracted Aids from the transfusion.
Amanda wanted very much to attend school in the short amount of time she had left. There were several people against this. Some parents pulled their children from the school. Other parents told their children not to go near Amanda so they do not get infected or not to use bathroom because Amanda could have used it. It goes to show you how little people knew of the Aids virus then and how people with Aids were discriminated against because of this lack of knowledge about how it can be passed on.

15.6 - "Eventually, All Things Merge Into One, And A River Runs Through It."
Baking Cakes in Kigali (2009) by Gaile Parkin (Hardcover, 304 pages) (Rwanda)
The Poison King: The Life and Legend of Mithradates, Rome's Deadliest Enemy (2009) by Adrienne Mayor (Goodreads Author) (Hardcover, 472 pages) (second longest book)
Task:
B.Read a novel that takes place in or a non-fiction book about one of the countries that the Congo flows through...
(Rwanda) Baking Cakes in Kigali (2009) by Gaile Parkin (Hardcover, 304 pages) I loved the narrative voice of this novel! The heroine's goal of searching for the best outcome in every situation she is in was inspiring. 5 *
C. Read a book that is the second longest book written by an author of your choice.
The Poison King: The Life and Legend of Mithradates, Rome's Deadliest Enemy (2009) by Adrienne Mayor (Goodreads Author) (Hardcover, 472 pages) (second longest book) Mithradates' kingdom was located on the southern banks of the Black Sea. He was barbaric, pagan, and clever. The photographs were very helpful to the text. I rate this one 2 * because (1) the prose was leaden; (2) alot of this book is speculation (like: Mithradates "probably" "most likely" "would have done") rather than fact; and, (3) very annoyingly, the author has a hatred of the Roman Empire that overshadows her judgment of the historical facts.

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold 372 p.
I gave this book 3 stars, although it probably deserves 4 (still wish I could give 1/2 stars). Enjoyable, touching, emotional book, but I'm not sure I would say it's a MUST-read, (I'm very picky, my Must-read list would be short). The thing I didn't like about this story is that the family never had closure in regards to Mr. Harvey.

Must-Read lists abound. Let's create our own! For this task, read a book that is at least 300 pages and tell us whether it is a must-read or not and why.
For this task, I read Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (396 pages) I would put this on a must-read list for young adult books. I gave it 4 stars, partly because I found it kind of slow to get started. Other than that it was a very creative book.

Just finished 30.2 PJ Reads - For The Children
A. This was a hard task for me to choose a book for, there were so many choices! I love the CLASSICS, so finding one that was old enough was still not the problem. I ended up picking
Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater
after hearing that a movie is now in the works. Published in 1938, the story is still as fresh as any new title! My own kids could not believe that I had not re-read this one when I gave it to them. My son still talks about playing the piano with gloves! I have a cousin that is a new elementary school teacher so I will "gently" poke her to add this to her list for her class.
