Books between 100 and 160 pages (100 pages or 25,000 words is the minimum) = 10 points
Books between 161 pages and 450 pages = 20 points
Books between 451 and 600 pages = 50 points
Books between 601 and 750 pages = 70 points
Books between 751 and 900 pages = 90 points
Books over 901 pages = 100 points

For BOM (Book of the Month) discussions
Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
Participating in a BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points
NOTE: We will accept one team member per book per team for writing a days DQs. If, by three days prior to the BOM starting, we don't have enough volunteers to write all DQs, then we will let more than one team member per team write questions. If we have more people than days sign up (prior to 3 days before start date) we will randomise the volunteers to determine those who can write DQs

Uuuummmm *blushes* yes - we won - we had some really heavy readers on our team. It was my first group challenge where the whole group clicked. It was a great time reading fun books and just hanging out having fun. I'm sure us Elves can do the same

I have to break it up into spurts. I can usually only read 2-3 series books back-to-back before I need to break it up a little. Once a month or once every couple of weeks is better for longer series (although even that schedule burned me out on Dresden!).

This is my first team challenge! Someone give me advice on how to totally kick butt...because I want to be able to brag about winning my first go 'round ;) Also...tell me what this is like! What do we do? I will read/listen to audio books all day long, but if there are little tips and tricks, then....as one of the darkness teams.....we will have to tap into those. Yay! All you guys being excited is making me excited!

I would say the best ways to try and earn the win are to A) read like a banshee, as Sonia says; and B) communicate! Pop into the thread and say hello, talk about what you're reading, or ask for new recommendations. The best teams are usually those with really active members that just want to have as much fun as possible...

Since everybody was asking for advice, I remember this, for a past event:


-Wailing Banshee:Banshees do not read. Banshees wail.
-Me:Wail?
-Wailing Banshee: Yes, wail. We wail till children cry and dogs howl. Till cats scream and people tremble on their sleeping places. Banshees wail and wail and wail till they voices fail and cannot continue wailing.
-Me: OK, banshees wail. And what happens when you stop wailing?
-Wailing Banshee:

We wail some more.
-Me: So, suppose that if instead of wailing, banshees read, what would you do?
-Wailing Banshee: I would read till my eyes hurt and my hands couldn't not turn pages anymore. Then I will grab and eReader till it break. Finally I would listen to audio books till my ears fall off. And then I would read some more. I would read like a banshee.

Grab your books. Tell the world to stop during 2 weeks go on without you. Tell the kids you will be busy reading. Grab your favorite snacks. Find your favorite reading nook and read like a Banshee.

Oh perfect! And I'll tell you...I love chatting in forums so...team of darkness will definitely, definitely win! I am so glad that audio books count because I drive between two cities at least once a week (2 hours apart), so I have to do during that time is listen to audio books. They are also what I use to motivate me to exercise. Then the rest of the time, I just stick to a reading schedule. So super excited.

That is true. However, reading together also improves discussion and motivation to read, so, is always a good thing.
