Love this series ....and it's really good on audio. First few are sort of confusing as they overlap - so when this happens in book 1 or look this is what happens in book 2 with these characters and then oh here comes book 3 characters. Was totally confusing to me then I started audio and ended up loving the series!! Just a lot of characters to try to remember lol

You can have started them whenever - it is the finish date that counts :)

Also - I would just post the words that you've found in Divergent anyway as we can only claim 1 word per book read and we can get double pts if say you and I find the same word in two different books read.

I think I read the first book a couple of years ago, so I definitely need a reread. Just checked my library, and they don't have it available on audio, tho. I think I'm gonna sneak it into my February reading. :)

Oh no - I think I have that one in dead tree version on my bookshelf.....not good?? I'd heard mixed reviews and he's sort of an anti-hero type. Other 'shinier' books keep me from picking it up lol

I'd been warned that the later books in the series are better, which I always think is people's way of saying that the first book isn't good. I'm at 80% now and I was hoping that maybe these characters would redeem themselves....but nope. Not yet anyway. lol

Definitely an anti-hero - he's rude, always telling Chloe she's stupid and that he's going to kill her (and he means it), he basically rapes her and then we have to listen to Chloe tell herself that "she didn't say no" and blame herself (which is A HUGE HUGE HUGE pet peeve of mine), and meanwhile Chloe is just flouncing around being a dumb pushover.

I am seriously at a loss as to why I should like these people!

message 1017: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ hmmmm - thinking this one is gonna sit on that shelf all by it's little lonesome for quite a while.....

message 1018: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Yikes, sounds like a terrible book, Logan. Sorry to hear it. Definitely not one I'll be picking up.

message 1019: by Logan (last edited Jan 30, 2015 09:16AM) (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments It's funny, because it's one of those books that people seem to rate really highly, so it makes me wonder if I'm just missing something? Or maybe these characters just rub ME the wrong way, but not everyone. It's one of those crisis of confidence books that make me want someone else to read it so I feel less crazy. I need you to validate my opinions! LOL!

message 1020: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments lol! I hate when I don't like a book that everyone else seems to love!! I always feel like I'm missing something too.

message 1021: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Alright, everyone. I updated our tracking post to get rid of duplicates.

I assigned each book read by each person (posted so far in this thread), starting with the items that only had one person claim them. If there were several items with only the same book assigned, I divided them based on which might be easier to fill as we finish up.

Don't forget that you can also claim setting, cover, and title points. Madame Malice, I assigned your HP book since it has lots of stuff we could use on the cover (I gave you grass).

If I missed a book in the updated list, please let me know! Now that the read books have been allocated, there will be more opportunities for common words - we just need more books to put there. :)

message 1022: by Logan (last edited Jan 30, 2015 10:19AM) (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Important!

Once you have checked the tracking post, please post to this thread the sentence from the page where your assigned word is found. I have to provide this as justification in our spreadsheet to get the points. (This only applies for quotes, not cover items or titles.)

To keep everything nice and organized, please post:

Item, [book], pg#, "Sentence."

message 1023: by Kristie (last edited Jan 30, 2015 11:50AM) (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments Logan -

Sand, Cress, page 211 (hardcover, chapter 24), "Beneath the robe peeked a pair of denim pants and boots that had long been sun bleached and caked with sand." (There are many other examples if needed, since part of the book was set in the Sahara.)

I can not give a specific page for "pool" in Bruiser because I listened to the audio. However, there are numerous mentions of it and important scenes that occur in a pool.

Can someone please work magic with that app and get a page number for me?

message 1024: by ~Melissa~ (last edited Jan 30, 2015 06:42PM) (new)

~Melissa~ @Logan - I will add the page # and sentence later tonight when I'm home :)

Beer - Jabril LOC 4674 The refrigerator was virtually empty, with a six pack of beer missing one bottle, and a quart of half and half.

Crab - Love Irresistibly pg 235 She gestured teasingly tot he appetizer in front of her. "Must be the crab cakes."

Reef - Dark Skye LOC 3904 The force raked them over coral reefs - before catapulting them back against the wall.

Britain, Love is a Many Trousered Thing. Book is set in Britain.

For me:

Banknote, Night, p. 17, "There was a little of everything: suitcases, briefcases, bags, knives, dishes, banknotes, papers, faded portraits."

Cricket, Offside, loc 4625, "They were playing cutthroat cricket and Chestnut - Scott was pretty sure her name was April - had closed the seventeen with three darts in one round."

Football, Desire Unchained, loc 4311, "It was only three yards away, but it might as well have been the distance between goalposts on a football field."

wool, Visions of Heat, loc 1359, "--because her keepers had surrounded her in so much cotton wool that it had become a prison."

Just finished the audiobook of Guilty Pleasures, and all I have to say is...finally!! Sadly disappointed with this book.

Here's the words I found in it:
bridge, bush, coal, desert, dog, film, fish, gas, green, guy, lamb, land, mountains, rock, rose, sheep, snake, solar, spider, star, summer, sun, tree, water, wine.

I actually enjoyed that series for a while and then it got just a tad too unrealistic for me and a little too over the top for me.

message 1045: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you need anything from me for "opal"? I'm guessing that's the one we're doing for HBP

message 1046: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Yes please! For opals for HBP and beach for The Giver, can you give me sentence it's in and the page # again?

message 1047: by [deleted user] (new)

Sure!

HBP: pg. 250 "An ornate opal necklace was visible, poking out of the paper.

The Giver: pg. 208 "Before he had left the dwelling, he had laid his hands firmly on Gabe's back and transmitted to him the most soothing memory he could: a slow-swinging hammock under palm trees on an island someplace, at evening, with a rhythmic sound of languid water lapping hypnotically against a beach nearby."

message 1049: by Dani (new)

Dani (yogidani) | 181 comments Yay! Awesome job everyone!

And question. I noticed one of my books was missing its pagecount on the main spreadsheet. When you click on the book, it just lists it as an ebook, but there is a paperback version that has a page count. Are we allowed to use that?

message 1050: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Yes, I'll get the page count verified by a mod and we can update your sheet.
