Not annoying at all! It honestly helps me as a captain to know what will help us all be successful and have a good time. I'd rather have tons of feedback and requests than just crickets chirping, ya know?

I have a Fitbit Zip, but I'm really terrible about checking it or syncing it regularly. It's nice to see how active I've been and make a comparison, but it wasn't as useful to me as I had hoped.

~Melissa~ Logan: >> Question about the buddy reads - do they have to be official buddy read with questions etc or can we do informal buudy reads like we do in TCF and make our own threads in the Buddy Read thread on Tower Team thread or in NBRC Buddy Read thread? Hopefully all that made sense :)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments It doesn't have to be official buddy read with questions, but it needs some discussion. Not only comment like: I've read a book and liked it.

As for threads, please ask for one in BR thread and one of the Mods will create it.

I don't have a fitbit zip...I just use my phone which has Runkeeper on it and Runkeeper automatically puts my calories burned onto MFP. I like it because they underestimate the number of calories I burn, so it pushes me to do more lol

I like Agents of the Shield too, it's pretty good. Blacklist is by far my favorite. Agents of the Shield is second. I'm also getting into The Strain which is based off a book series. We DVR all of these shows and then watch them when we have time... I think its better that way because I don't have to wait all week to find out what happens if there is a cliffhanger.

Hi Melissa. Buti yoga has been out a few years. It is supposed to be a way of life...there's a diet that goes with it (no dairy or grain) and it is for women only. You're supposed to break up with the scale (it's about being healthy, not losing weight) and it's supposed to be a "tribe of women" and be empowering and supportive. There is no judgment of yourself or others.

I'm not so much on the diet part. That being said, as a class, it's yoga, tribal dance and plyometrics. It's very intense but it's a lot of fun and a great work out. You kind of get a buzz from it. It's one of the best workouts I've ever had (the other being boxing). It focuses a lot on the core. You can find more info about it here http://butiyoga.com/ I've just started, but I'm addicted to it, and for me that is a huge thing because I have until this year hated anything gym related.

On Gillian Flynn...I like Dark Places the most....but all of her characters are either despicable or unsettling.

I hope you can find a place locally that has it! We just got it in the small town where I currently live, and I look forward to it every week.

If they don't have a place locally, they do have videos. And if you sign up at the website for the Buti Tribe, they will email you a free one hour work out video. Also FabFitFun has a 10 minute video and there are youtube videos.

I've seen improvement already and I've only been doing it a month - and I'm not doing the diet.

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

So I might have mentioned it already, but I have really bad hypothyroidism and I still haven't gotten my meds right (usually takes from around 6 months to a year to get them right) so I have to diet + work out twice a day to just maintain my weight- pain in the you-know-what (can we curse in here?). Anyway, yeah so I am always looking for things that are different so I'm not bored to tears.

Hilary (bookboss) Here is my shelf: Hilary's Tower Team Shelf

I am a mom of 3, my children are 16, almost 14, and 16 months old. I am a stay at home mom now, and my kids keep me pretty busy :) I also have several fur babies. My favorite genre is chick lit and contemporary romance type stories, but I am open to a wide variety of books. I am a big fan of audio books, and listen when I get the chance! My favorite way to read is on my kindle. I am from South Carolina. It is good to "meet" everyone :)

Sarah | 3273 comments Hilary - I have been doing audios of Diane Chamberlain. Do you know her, the two I have listened to are set in North Carolina. If you are interested in her books we could do a buddy read, if you do buddy reads, I know it isn't for everyone. I have The Midwife's Confession by Diane Chamberlain on hold now on my Overdrive that I will be getting around the beginning of the challenge.

message 171: by Hilary (new)

Hilary (bookboss) Hi Sarah :)

I recently read/listened to The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes (whispersync) and I loved it. I do have The Midwife's Confession on my tbr, so that would be a great buddy read! I was actually planning on reading it in the beginning of November.

Definitely sounds interesting. I will have to check it out.
So it was funny at our book club meeting for Gone Girl - one of the ladies when asked whether she liked the book or not "I hated every single character in the book.....but I had to keep reading to find out what happened." I know I hit the middle of the book and did a huge "wtf" "really - wth" moment. Is Dark Places like that?

I don't hate the main character in Dark Places or Sharp Objects...They just do a lot of things that make you think they are kind of worthless as human beings. I don't know...you dislike almost everyone in all the books, but they're really dark and twisted and everything you think you know, you don't. No one is as effed up as Amy though. I think she is by far the most screwed up character I've ever read about. The premise behind Dark Places is really interesting. Sharp Objects ... the main character just keeps doing stupid things and you're like are you kidding me? You're a grown woman, act like it....but the side characters in sharp objects are really weird and creepy. I have to agree with your book club lady I do hate the characters, but they're written in such a way you can't stop reading them...and, I'm anxiously awaiting whatever screwed up prose she puts out next.

Yeah - Let's do it. I may not get the book for quite awhile - three to six weeks, but could totally be way sooner. I am number three on the waiting list, and it says one copy only. If you are willing to wait can I let you know when I get it, and we can set up a read then?

It is the finished date that counts. You could start a book today and if you read it slow. As long as you finish the last page of the book on nov 8 it counts.

I haven't bought it yet - our RL bookclub meets every other month and our next meeting is the week of Thanksgiving. So I have time as I think it is almost 500 pgs. I think there is a buddy read on here I might join for this - more points for us.Here's the blurb about it - sounds thriller-like:

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Sometimes it’s the little lies that turn out to be the most lethal. . . . A murder… . . . a tragic accident… . . . or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead. But who did what? Big Little Lies follows three women, each at a crossroads: Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny and biting, passionate, she remembers everything and forgives no one. Her ex-husband and his yogi new wife have moved into her beloved beachside community, and their daughter is in the same kindergarten class as Madeline’s youngest And to top it all off, Madeline’s teenage daughter seems to be choosing Madeline’s ex-husband over her. Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare. While she may seem a bit flustered at times, who wouldn’t be, with those rambunctious twin boys? Now that the boys are starting school, Celeste and her husband look set to become the king and queen of the school parent body. But royalty often comes at a price, and Celeste is grappling with how much more she is willing to pay. New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for the nanny. Jane is sad beyond her years and harbors secret doubts about her son. But why? While Madeline and Celeste soon take Jane under their wing, none of them realizes how the arrival of Jane and her inscrutable little boy will affect them all. Big Little Lie is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

message 184: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments The buddy read for Big Little Lies is 11/9, if anyone else would like to join us. :)

Logan -
I signed up for more buddy reads! I am adding Big Little Lies on 11/9, Jurassic Park on 12/10, Unwind - open, and we are planning Cress, I think sometime in December. I'll let you know as I go which books I read and if they were buddy reads too, just so you can keep track of points more easily and accurately.

Has anyone else signed up to write questions for a BOM? I'm doing the last day for The Knife of Never Letting Go.

~Melissa~ Logan - I'm joining the Big Little Lies buddy read - I'm not sure what team Sarah and Laura are on.

I also PM'd Ezi about possibly doing Sinner's Fall (Brooklyn sinner's #4) and/or Blood & Thunder (Thirds #2) - I'll keep you posted if we do these - i/we want to make sure they will work for SH before we decide :)

OK, sooooo it will imply a special thread, a blind cover book and the resource to a special 18+ sister group - no adult content on main NBRC

But

THEY. WILL. COUNT.

We just need to get some rules first. I'm so happy. We can buddy re-read Ty & Zane :D
