Well I finished Neil Gaiman's "Norse Mythology" this morning. It was actually quite good, and a really fast read. Basically he just took some of the myths of Norse Mythology and retold them, with some slight variations. He starts with creation and ends with Ragnarok. Some of it's funny, some of it's sad and some is just plain weird. But all said and done it's definitely worth a read (4 stars in my opinion). Now I'm starting Vic James' "Gilded Cage".

Great Idea Teddie! Part of the fun of the game is the Chatter about our reads. @Treavor ~ You are reading all the best new books!!! yes, please about posting your opinions :)
I finished
by Neil Gaiman last night. I could read it all over again! ★★★★ for the imaginative world of Shadow Moon, Would be 5 stars but I felt a bit lost throughout the story, flipping from different stories to what felt like "mini stories". Gaiman is brilliant!
I agree. It's nice to see other's opinions. I've been told to read some Gaiman books. Nice to hear some recommendations. Happy reading everyone. I'm almost done with Blood and Chocolate.
Yes, he does on both accounts. I can't honestly say he wrote much original content with the book, but he did a pretty decent job at collecting both common and uncommon myths.
I just finished The Horse and His Boy. I really liked it. I had heard so many good things about it. I thought the characters were very real. It was nice to see other parts the Lewis' world, other than Narnia. I'm well on my way to completing the series now.

I finished Normal - 3 stars. Overall, I enjoyed the read. It took me a little while to adjust to Ellis' writing rhythm, and there are some great nuggets of ideas - it just felt incomplete to me.

Finished Book: Ettiquette & EspionageRating: 4 stars
I enjoyed this more than I expected! The characters are well-drawn, especially Sophronia, and the aspects of the world that are revealed in this part of the story are intriguing, and lay a solid foundation for expansion in later series books. I'm going to get this for my daughter - totally up her alley.
I noticed you really liked this series Victoria - if you like Sophronia, you may also like Tess from The Fixer. No steampunk, but another "Get 'er done" kind of protagonist :)
Sorry for not checking in much. As soon as this challenge started i got really busy with work. But, I think work is finally settling down and I've had time to update the spreadsheet. Thanks to whoever added a couple of my books for me =)
I finished Blood and Chocolate last night. This is a re-read for me. For some reason I really enjoy this book. The author does a nice job of explaining the transformations without over doing it. The pack dynamic is nice. Sometimes I wish there was more: more about the other snip-its of time that are mentioned, New Orleans, West Virginia, Vermont. However, it might not work as well. It's a quick read if you like this type of book. On to the next....
Hey Everyone! Just stopping by and realized I wasn't getting notifications when anyone comments here. I've fixed that , So I'll be on here more :)How's everyone doing? Any questions...?
I just finished
yesterday and have found a new favorite series! It was set apart from your typical heroine story and really draws you in. If you're a fan of
,
,
, then this might be right up your alley :D
I've got that audiobook Elizabeth. I'll have to check it out... I got it through a teen summer giveaway. Glad you enjoyed it :)

I hope you all are having a fun weekend! Trinia and I are going to be updating the official sheet today as the Mods will be posting the mini challenge soon, and need that info. If you can, please make sure all the books you've read since Feb 1 are on your UNO shelf and have start and end dates (sometimes the app is flakey about the dates.)
We'll post an update a little later when we have all the info in but we're doing well, with 24 books read against our Feb goal of 75.
I've been wanting to read that one, I just splurged on the audiobook so I'll be more likely to listen :)
So I finished Brad Garrett's
. It was hysterical, as I suspected it was going to be. I made sure to have the audiobook going as well so I could hear all his impressions in his own voice. Definitely worth a read! 4 Stars! It was especially great because earlier in the week I finished
and that was 2 and 1/2 stars at best (he devoted an entire chapter to compression socks) . It was nice to bounce back to something actually funny. Hope ya'll are enjoying some great reads!
@Treavor ~ I'll have to add it to my list. The author read ones are my favorite for the Non-Fiction genre.

The February Mini Challenge Starts tomorrow!
Here are the rules for the Valentine challenge. It looks like our valentine is Team Heathcliff , so we can all check through their shelves (or tracking sheet) to find some books that fit the mini challenge.
All mini challenge books also count for our normal Feb. hands, so the mini challenge may be more about reading a book you weren't planning to read. Trinia & I will post more on this soon, but in the meantime, take a look at the rules and get some ideas going :)
Ok, a page 1 post has been updated with links to all relevant Mini Challenge info - just for convenience. That post will be updated with March and April mini challenge info as well. We've added a Valentine Challenge sheet to our planning sheet - I am thinking that we try to find a book that completes a task for a Part 1 (Find Your Valentine) task (more points) if possible. Then hit as many Part 2 (Be My Valentine) tasks as possible - what do you guys think?
Do you see any books that you could read for a Part 1 task?

YAY!
Teddie, I was thinking of the same strategy!
I found a few books to read from their list... if a re-read is allowed then Never Never and if not then Curvy... They are both short reads and I should have either one finished in 1-2 days.
Can team members read the same book ?
Anyone else like a book on that list?
I found a Part 1 book I can read:Rules of the Game - Sophie from Team Heathcliff read it this month. I prefer JD Robb to Nora Roberts, but we shall see! ;)

I saw that one too, it looks good. And believe it or not, I've never read either JD Robb or Nora Roberts books... might be an interesting intro. Can 2 members read the same book? I'm guessing yes. ;)

Oh my gosh - you need to try the Eve Dallas books, the In Death series. LOVE THAT SERIES! lol
And yes, 2 members can read the same book. :)
I can read Good Boy - phone so can't link - looks like Katie read it earlier this month. Should be quick and fun. :)
Trinia wrote: "YAY!

Re-reads are allowed as long as latest previous reading was 6 months or more ago. :)
NOTE: when you find a book that works for the Valentine mini challenge, please put it on the Feb UNO books and the Valentine sheet (noting Valentine reason.)Thank you!
EDIT: Or post to the thread, letting us know the reason the book works for the Valentine challenge.
Stacey wrote: "I can read Good Boy - phone so can't link - looks like Katie read it earlier this month. Should be quick and fun. :)"Thanks Stacey! So we need just 1 more book Team Heathcliff read this month, and then onto books that Team Heathcliff has read in Feb or added in Feb of any year.
Shamber wrote: "I will read Mackenzie's Mountain. It doesn't look too long and I was born in Wyoming :)"Awesome Shamber!
Just finished Gilded Cage. It was pretty decent actual. Quite a bit more politically involved than I would have prefered; but good nevertheless. Does Lincoln in the Bardo need to be read? I own an advanced copy of it and could read it if need be.
I also have The Valiant by Leslie Livingston which I'm looking to read, and that technically is published February 14th as well.
Treavor wrote: "I also have The Valiant by Leslie Livingston which I'm looking to read, and that technically is published February 14th as well."If you are up for reading either Lincoln in the Bardo or The Valiant and taking care of the pub. Feb 14th bonus task, that would be great! Whichever you want :)
ATTENTION TEAM BONES:We currently have all 5 books set for the first task of the Valentine Mini Challenge Part 1, and Treavor is going to take care of the published on Valentines Day bonus!
We still need up to 9 more books for the Part 1 / Task 2:
Read a book your valentine team (Team Heathcliff) has read in Feb or added in Feb of any year.
EDIT: The MODS just updated the rule on this:
To give more flexibility, we will allow the book to be on any shelf (not just the read shelf) provided the "added" date is in Feb of any year.
Each of these books are worth 8 points, so we'll try to fill all those first. If you need to read a book that won't fit for a Part 1 / Task 2 book, check whether it works for a Part 1 / Task 3 book OR a Part 2 task - they are both worth 5 points each.
Hi, everyone. No I've not been abducted. I will be finishing a book for the team tonight. As for the Valentine challenge, if I'm following this correctly, I can read The Martian Chronicles from their list? It should meet what we're looking for. If this is good, I will update our sheet later tonight. I'm kind of onthe run at the moment.
Teddie wrote: "Just a FYI - we posted a Happy Valentines Day message to Team Heathcliff :)"Cute post :D
Billy "D" wrote: "Hi, everyone. No I've not been abducted. I will be finishing a book for the team tonight. As for the Valentine challenge, if I'm following this correctly, I can read [book:The Martian Chronicles|76..."Abducted? We'll put these two on the case

;)
On that note: The Martian Chronicles will work perfectly as Gavin read it Feb 9th
I just got Carve the Mark audiobook on loan from the library. Grr... can't find it on any of their shelves :/ Any suggestions for easier searching?
Trinia wrote: "I just got Carve the Mark audiobook on loan from the library. Grr... can't find it on any of their shelves :/ Any suggestions for easier searching?"
Not really. I was going to each person's shelf and viewing Pub date, etc and just sorting.
You could always put Carve the Mark against a Part 2 task if you need?
I'm so behind on things this month! But I'm excited for the mini challenge. I don't have time now, but I'll read through the rules tomorrow. And update the books to my shelf which I know I forgot to do...
I went ahead and put a book in for Part 2 -- Third Grave Dead Ahead. I have to read it for another challenge, so not anything additional but it can fit a few other tasks too if it needs to be moved. I also started to search for other February books on the Heathcliff shelves--but ended up just adding another one that Katie read this month (apparently we have similar tastes :P) for the second part of Part 1 -- Naughty Boss.
@ Stacey - Cool! I added them to the Feb UNO books too, as they count for our regular hands as well - feel free to add more card x's as you read :)
