Yes! We can keep trying to fill all our Valentine tasks and get the bonus for finishing everything!

I just finished Curvy - I think I prefer my dirty with just a dollop more plot - any plot actually ;) lol

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Also, we have our hands for March - I added the March sheets to the planning doc if you want to check it out.

We have a few cards that require both a number AND a color, i.e. 6 green. This means the cover of the 6 book need to be over 50% green. We also have one more hand (14) which ends up being a total of 79 books. We had 75 books in Feb, and cleared that easily, so we should be ok.

CORRECTION: In Feb, our maximum points total for our hands is 2000. In March, its 2250.

Our Valentines challenge is filling up nicely - wtg!!

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 13 comments That adds an interesting twist! I'll look through my books over the next couple of days and start adding to the spreadsheet.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Hi Team!

We are coming into the home stretch for February - books have to be finished by this time to be counted as a February book. (Books started in Feb but not finished until March can be counted as a March book.)

There are 5 books that are still in the CR status on the FebHands sheet - please take a look and let us know if you are definitely finishing the book in Feb, or if you think you won't finish until March. Its no problem - we can move books around if we get a heads up.

Our Valentine's challenge is coming along nicely - looks like we have part 2 covered as long as all the CR books are done by EOD 2/28. We have 6 more books we can read for the "Read a book your valentine team has read that was first published in Feb of any year" task in Part 1. There is now a sheet on the planning doc called: Heathcliff Books Pub in Feb - some of the Heathcliff members are there with a list of some books they've read that are published in Feb. We get a bonus if we finish ALL the Valentines tasks, so take a look and see whether there is anything there you want to read!

I'm not seeing a Green 6 on our spreadsheet. Would it fit a Green 4, 5 or 8? (F,I,E) ~ Look on our MarchHands tab
It can definitely be used if not ;) But we don't have a Green 6 card.

Trinia | 935 comments Lol, no worries! All books can be used :) we've got lots of cards this month :D

Great! We have The Invisible Man down for a Valentines task.

I added a few books to the March cards sheet that hit some of the color / number combos, but, depending on what everyone else adds, we may or may not need.

message 261: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments You usually go with the edition you've read. By default it goes to the hardcover.

message 262: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments Oh! Sorry. You can use a website called tineye.com You drag the picture over to it and it will tell you the percent of each color. I'm on my phone and can't send a link ... but it's tineye color.

message 264: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments On my computer I take the thumbnail of the cover and drag it over. Works like a charm. Also make sure you have the little box checked or unchecked to include background colors. Have fun!

Trinia | 935 comments Elizabeth wrote: "Just finished Red Queen! it was pretty good, although I found some of the more "suspenseful" parts rather predictable. overall, probably 3.5/5 stars"

EIizabeth I felt the same way, haven't started #2 in that series yet... but am curious how it continues on!

I finished Stars Above (The Lunar Chronicles, #4.5) by Marissa Meyer , which was a great book of short stories that answered a few unanswered questions in the previous books. I was worried that I haven't read this series in so long, but everything came rushing back as I read. A must read for any fan of The Lunar Chronicles series.

message 266: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments @ Elizabeth: I had similar feelings about Red Queen - I haven't rushed to read #2.

@Trinia: I'll have to check Stars Above out - really enjoyed that series - passed it onto my daughter who also loved.

I finished After the Woods and I have to say - I enjoyed it way more than I was expecting - crisp writing and an interesting and likable main character.

Shamber | 151 comments I finished The Great Gatsby. I was not overly impressed. I guess I was expecting more since this is such a iconic book.

message 268: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments I felt the same way Shamber! I've been wanting to watch the movie to see if it's any more exciting.

Shamber | 151 comments I finished Never Never part one. It was alright. I might read part two just for the sake of a quick read. I would say 3 out of 5

@ Trinia - I always want to see if the movie is any better. I assume it will be just for the sake of needing to make money.

I never got it either! I watched the old Paul Newman movie version of it once--I didn't get it any better. :) Or maybe Robert Redford?? I can't remember.

message 271: by Shamber (new)

Shamber | 151 comments I did enjoy the atmosphere. I also agree about the one dimensional characters. I was also a bit confused that it took so long for Daisy and Gatsby to be in the same room....I thought it was about them. A friend mentioned that the iconic part is that it was a change in writing for the time....that I can totally see. I guess I just really like character development, so this doest quite hit the spot for me.

Totally! You will appreciate this very entertaining Q & A session between astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and author Andy Weir. In it, Tyson asks:

NT: Could you have invented a new genre here?

AW: I’ve heard people describe it as competence porn.

And that is exactly right :)

Victoria | 387 comments Hey, sorry for being mia, I'm in New Orleans for Mardi Gras. I updated the spreadsheet yesterday so hopefully you see my completed books - including the 2 for v day. Also, I think I saw something about a book with Shakespeare's quotes - I can't seem to check the rules at the moment, but if my read dates work Silent in the Sanctuary had several quotes

I have filled up the spreadsheet with my planned books :D I am leaving tomorrow with my 15 yr old twin boys to Europe on a school trip until the 13th! I will be out of touch because cellular data is almost nothing with my international plan, but I can touch base when I find wifi. I will miss checking in with y'all but I'll be back!!! Victoria | 387 comments Have fun Trinia!

I just got back from my trip and will update the spreadsheet/plan books for march once I get some sleep. A 17 hour drive with only 2 hours of sleep before an 8 hour work day has left me pretty brain dead.

And I should be more active this month since I will be switching back to night shift and don't have anymore vacations planned.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments A Quick Note on March Hands / Books:

- Keep you eye out for 7's - we have a few this month. (We also have a bund of 5's, 4's and 9's, but we have already covered most of the 5's and I think we should be ok with everything else with normal reading habits.)

- If anyone wants to find a 4 Green or 5 Blue book to read this month, post to the thread and we'll get it on the Hands sheet

TGIF!
