The Finishing School series was my favorite by Gail Carriger. It is an immensely fun series and was really good on audio.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments The start is just a little over a day away - everyone excited?

I AM! :)

I was just checking our planning sheet - thanks for filling out all the info for your books! If anyone ever has questions about the sheet or the game in general, Trinia and I will either answer or get the answer from the Mods.

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments @Victoria:

I've been on the waitlist for A Perilous Undertaking - I hope it's as good/fun as the first one!

Trinia | 935 comments Finally!! Can't wait, I've got my book loaded and ready for reading/listening!!! Fun!

@Teddie- did you see the Dallas game? :( we're bad luck I tell ya!

@Victoria- I've heard mixed opinions about that series..I'm glad to hear your positive review ! Will move that up my list for sure :D

Billy "D" | 52 comments I'm ready!
I do have a few questions. For instance, when I chose my book for the first hand,I was able to meet the Wild card requirements. Now, in choosing my next book do I look at hand #2 and try to say..... meet the requirements for Draw 2? Because it affords the most points? Or do I just choose any old book and let the "Boss Ladies" figure it out?......lol

message 107: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments Billy I would say, just pick a book you want to read for starters. As we start filling in cards you can see what is still open and then choose accordingly. Keeps it fun that way ;D

Lol - its helpful to see that a book hits a hands's Draw 2 requirement(s). We will probably try to fill those first, then reverses and other cards for high point-per-card hands. - but make no mistake: we're going for ALL the cards, a total of 75 books in February. :)

I'm thinking that people can read whatever at the beginning of the month, but as we get to the last week or 2, we'll need to make sure we're covering tasks all the cards, so the cards-a-book-works-for-requirements may get more specific. There is also usually a monthly mini challenge thrown in there as well, so we'll have to see what that brings.

message 109: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Elizabeth wrote: "I also have a question. does a wild have to fulfill all the requirements for 0-9, or any?"

There are actually 2 kinds of Wilds - the regular Wild has to be a 0-9 card task, the Draw Four Wild can be absolutely anything.

Thanks. Ok then before I choose my next book I'll check in to see what you want to hit next.....(Boss Lady!) "One book at a time,Bill. One book at a time......." lol

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments Stacey wrote: "I have a quick question-- for the Reverse, someone else doesn't have to have read the book during the game--just at some point. Correct?"

Exactly - as long as the book is on a teammate's Read shelf, we are golden.

And this is why I didn't want to add any books to the spreadsheet ahead of time. I knew I'd get excited and read it before we started. Which, is what I just did with a A Perilous Undertaking...

It was really good and I am completely wrapped up in this series. It's a lot of fun and while the mystery aspect is nothing grand, I had a great time following the adventures of the two MCs as the went about solving it.

The audio version of this is also really good and is likely a big contributor for my new found series love :)

And if anyone decides to start the series during Uno it will now work for the Reverse Card :P

If you haven't done so yet, please enter your upcoming / CR book(s) on the planning sheet.

Note: we have 7 V's for Feb, and those are a little less common, so keep your eyes open for a V or 7 in title or 7th in series.

message 129: by Trinia (new)

Trinia | 935 comments I've entered my books for this week. We've got 19/75 so far for the month! Looking good team Bones!

I'll have Good As Gone finished tonight! No V's so far :( But I'll look for my next read.

message 130: by Billy "D" (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1011 comments TGIF Team Bones!!

Does anyone have anything fun planned (other than reading, of course) this weekend?

I'll be watching the game (aka the commercials as I have no skin in the game) Sunday night, and eating garbage food, and rooting for the Falcons. (I'll root for anyone playing against the Pats ... except maybe Dallas ... I think I would just skip that game altogether :P )

Weekend: Saturday is wall to wall kids sports and activities.
Sunday will be watching the game as well and also rooting for the Falcons. Oh and I feel the same way about the cowgirls... I mean boys.

Billy "D" | 52 comments Just a heads-up. I finished my first and added my second book to the sheet. I think it's right. Am I missing a trick to knowing all character names, before reading the book? I assume not, so I'll add any additional names as I read. As far as the Draw 2 box, it meets it but I'm not sure what to put in it. Seems like there's some sort of code being used....lol

message 142: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 387 comments Question, I started listening to Poirot's Finest Cases Eight Full-Cast BBC Radio Dramatisations and am wondering if I can use it for this challenge? It's definitely over the page requirement, but since it's only on audible there are no page numbers - it's about 15 hours long. I'd go by the page numbers on the individual books, but I believe they shortened them for the dramatization.

Any thoughts? (I aim to complicate things)

Since there's no scoring based on page numbers, I'll just make sure the Mods are satisfied that this hits the word requirement (as I expect that it will.) Looks like a fun collection to listen to!

Treavor G. | 32 comments So I'll be updating the sheet within the next day or so, but just wanted to say I finished Caraval and added it to my Uno 2017 folder. You know, part of why I love doing challenges is to learn about books, and hear what other people think. Are you guys up for posting the title and your rating of finished books here to the thread? If you have your book on the planning sheet with all the respective cards tagged, you don't need to post any of that info to the thread, but I do think it would be funs to hear what you thought about the book you read, even its it just a rating.

Sound good to you guys?

Awesome! I know the spread sheet can be tricky to use on a mobile device - if you want to just post what you're reading/read to the thread, that is ok too! We can update the sheet as needed :)
